The Brown Hyena, also known as the Hyaena brunnea, lives in various habitats across Africa and Asia and can live up to 25 years in captivity. They eat a variety of foods including fruits, insects, birds, vegetables, and carrion. Female brown hyenas give birth to 1 to 4 cubs and the cubs start eating solid food around 4 months, though it takes 30 months for a hyena to fully mature. When hunting, the largest hyenas claim the best pieces of meat while the smaller hyenas are left with scraps.
