He works very hard day and night in all seasons. • During summer, they works under the heat of the sun. • During winter season,they gets wet while ploughing the field. • During winter, they carries on his hard work inspite of the dull and cold weather.
- 5. DEPENDENT UPON NATURE • The life of a farmer is much dependent upon forces o nature. • For agriculture,adequate monsoon is required . • If the rainfall is adequate, the agricultural output would be good.
- 6. Then & Now At the time of independence there were more than 55% people involved in farming and now, their number has decreased to 9% only. One of India’s former prime minister LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI gave slogan “Jai kisan jai jawan” in 1965 Today,everyone looks to be more interested in the land of farmers than helping them. Big corporations want land to develope smart cities,factories,highways,large scale farming,etc and they need cheap labour to work in their factories Our governments are also favouring big business houses by weakning the Indian farmers

- 8. • In India where you can get easy vehicles loans or can buy a car at 7% interest rate but if you want to buy a tractor of rupees 4,00,000 and you have to pay 12.5% interest rate . • India is an agrarian country with around 60% of its people depending directly or indirectly upon agriculture. • Being an agriculture country it is very shameful for our indian government that from 1995-2013, a total of 2,96,438 farmers have killed themselves in India

COMMITING SUICIDE • A suicide is actually about the loss of hope,hope that things can improve ever,hope that things will be fine later, hope that I can fight through this. • The farmers suicides were totally unneccesary where in most cases, the result of man made policies,not natural calamities. • It is not droughts and floods which forced farmers so much to take their lives, as the government’s intervention or the lack of it. • Our policy decisions are totally driven towards creating inequality and driving our farmers to the coffin.

BANK BEHAVIOUR • Worse is the way our banks behave many of the refuse to give loans to farmers,unless say the punchayat intervenes. • Sometimes the head of the panchayat colludes with banks to ensure that people have to pay bribes to get loans, sometimes the bank officials ask for bribes on their own. • Because most rural areas just have one bank,it is difficult to get loans at lower interest rates in many cases without paying bribes.
- 11. CAUSES OF HYDROCARBON PROJECT This hydrocarbon project would pose severe environmental problems and adversely affect the livehood of farmers in and around neduvasal. The farmers also claimed that the fertility of the land will be affected. There is also apprehension regarding the lowering of ground water level. The displacement of habitation of the people in the village. The villagers also fear that this project may disturb the interface of the seawater and groundwater that may later on result in the intrusion of saline water to the fresh water sources.
