1. What is the default password? Can it be changed?
User Name: admin
Password: 12345
Yes, you can change the password after the first login & can create more than one user
with admin privilege.
2. How to reset the password if forgotten?
The respective DVR can be searched on a local network through SADP software. You can
send the Serial number, Date, and Time on the DVR to the technical support
(techsupport@zicom.com), a temporary password will be sent, and you can then reset the
password
3. What is the maximum storage capacity of the Hard Disk in the DVR?
Maximum 2 Tera Bytes for each of 4, 8 & 16 channel DVR
4. How many Hard Drives can be connected to each of the 4, 8 & 16 channel DVR?
For 4 & 8 channel DVR only 1 Hard Drive can be connected whereas for 16 channel DVR 2
Hard Drives can be connected (not applicable to all the models)
5. Can a Video be recorded along with its audio? If so, then for how many
channels?
Yes, generally the DVR has a facility of minimum 1 channel audio recording. Besides there
are also some models of the DVR available that support all channel audio recording
6. Suggest suitable steps to be taken if an audio is not getting recorded
Go to record settings & check whether stream type is ‘audio’ or ‘Video’.
7. Does the power cut affect the continuity in recording?
Yes, if DVR is not on Scheduled record mode. DVR generally is on manual recording mode.
You can go to schedule recording & set schedule for time base or motion base recording.

8. Can I view my DVR on an Internet?
Yes
9. How can I view my DVR on Internet?
You can view your DVR on an Internet by port forwarding in the modem / router
10. Is static IP compulsory for viewing my DVR on the Internet?
Yes, Static IP or DDNS service is required for viewing DVR on WAN.
11. How to configure a Static IP in a DVR?
If you have a modem & you are using the same network for other purpose also then Static
IP need not to be configured anywhere in the DVR, it is to be entered in the Internet
Explorer for viewing the DVR from different network. But for this you have to port
forward your DVR in your modem / router. For port forwarding you can activate DMZ in
your modem & just insert LAN IP of your DVR in DMZ host then SAVE & REBOOT the
modem.
12. Do I require separate Static IP for each DVR to view all the DVRs are on same
LAN network?
You can view more than one DVR from single Static IP. Let the port number of each DVR
be different, for example 8000 for one DVR , 8001 for another DVR , 8002 for yet another
one & so on. The same port to be forwarded in the modem through virtual server with
respective DVR IP and port number.
13. Can I view all the 3 – 4 DVRs at a time in a single window on LAN / WAN?
Yes, it is possible to view maximum upto 64 cameras through IVMS software as per
bandwidth limitations.
14. What is the User Name, Password for IVMS software?
The Username and Password is prompted while installing the software & you can then
change it as per your convenience

15. How many persons can view the DVR at a time on IVMS software?
You can view maximum upto 18 cameras at a time through ivms software. For example, if
somebody is already logged in to 16 ch DVR then you can view only 2 cameras of the
same DVR at that point of time.
16. Is there any other way for one or more persons to view all the cameras at a
time?
Yes, you can install stream server software & can view maximum upto 64 cameras
through IVMS. It means 4 people can view all the 16 channels of one DVR at same time.
17. What is the procedure to configure the setting?
Install IVMS & stream media server software in all the computers from where you want to
view cameras. Then go to setup and right click on the Area in the left top to add stream
media. While adding the stream media enter the IP of any one computer (should be given
same IP while adding media server on each computer) as the respective computer will act
as a server & should be kept on continuously to get the view of cameras in other
computer.
18. What is the default IP of a DVR?
192.168.1.64 or (192.0.0.64 in some of the new DVR)
19. If a 500GB Hard Drive is connected to a 4 channel DVR then how many days will
the memory capture the recordings?
Normally if the recording is kept on a 25fps with high resolution then each camera takes
about 4 to 5 Gb space to store the recording. Based on the same it store the recording for
about 30‐35 days.
20. Suggest some solutions if a mouse that is connected to the DVR is not
functioning?
Please check on the screen at left hand corner down, if you see letter “A” then you are not
on the main screen, it should show letter “M” to operate the mouse (you should be on
Main screen). To select main screen you can just reboot the DVR. Or you can go to menu >
Display > change Video O/P to Main CVBS or VGA as applicable.
21. Is it possible to delete a recording for any one day?

No, it is not possible to delete any file from the DVR; you have to format the HDD where
all the data will get lost.
22. Will the back‐up files open in any of the media players?
The files will open in Zicom player software only.
23. Can I view the DVR on my mobile?
Yes, you have to install IVMS 4500 software on your mobile. (It is compatible to most of
the mobiles, kindly check Zicom website for more details)
24. Can PTZ be connected & controlled with the help of a DVR?
Yes, any PTZ can be viewed & also controlled with help of a DVR, provided data cable to
control the speed dome is connected properly at RS485 Tx+, Tx‐. & camera id and baud
rate etc. configured in the DVR.
25. What if an audio that is heard in playback but cannot play in IVMS or
LAN/WAN?
Click on the camera window, selected camera border will become green then right click
on camera & click on open voice, then you can hear camera voice if microphone is
connected to respective cameras.
26. Can I give access to any user with only viewing permission?
Yes, you can add users with different access levels & assign them different passwords as
per their respective login permissions. For this you can go to settings > users manage >
add user > go to permission & assign different permissions. This can also be set through
IVMS software.
27. Can we use Google Chrome or Mozila Firefox for viewing DVR on LAN / WAN?
It is possible to view on Chrome or Mozila with the help of IE tab but it is recommended to
use Internet Explorer.
