The fantail is a small bird that lives in forests, scrublands, towns, parks, and gardens in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands. It has a chubby body and long tail. Its predators include cats, rats, mustelids, mynas, and humans. For diet, the fantail eats small insects, fruit, berries, and spiders. To survive, if a predator approaches the nest the female will pretend to be injured while the male fights it off as a way to trick predators.
