2. Intro On December 1991 the whole world watched as the mighty Soviet Union split into 15 separate nations. Russia needed a stronger economy and a more efficient government. Democracy became widely popular among the Russian people.
4. Who Mikhail Gorbachev lead Soviet Union during its loss of power. Boris Yeltsin controlled the Russian Federation, which was then a republic of the Soviet Union.
5. Why Mikhail Gorbachev came to power and brought about a broad reform. Sought to get rid of corruption, apathy, poor morale and cynicism. The need for change was not realized by the Party and state. The Union’s unwillingness to tackle urgent social and economic problems led to the fall.
6. When Decline began in the the 70’s and continued into the 90’s On a cold Christmas night in 1991 the banner of the soviet union that flew over Moscow’s Kremlin was lowered.
8. What National income declined by more than 50%, and the economy as a whole became sluggish. Society as a whole took less pride in Soviet patriotism, labor enthusiasm, and ideological conviction. Glasnost led to more political parties popping up and gaining popularity.

11. Group’s Point of View His plan for the economy brought about a free enterprise system and a more democratic way of running the economy. Defeated the purpose of communism in the country’s economy.
12. Conclusion Democracy began to take the Union by storm. Citizens remained politically inactive. Yeltsin’s capitalist movement required the dismantlement of the Soviet Union as a whole. Soviet supporters opposed the movement, but lost. The Soviet Union was no more on December 25th, 1991.
