FACTORS TO CONSIDER IN
SETTING WRITING TASKS

Students Proficiency Level
 Teacher should consider the level of
proficiency that students have so the writing
tasks would suit them.
 There are 5 level of proficiency in English:
a) Beginner
b) Early Intermediate
c) Intermediate
d) Early Advanced
e) Advanced
Student Level of Knowledge
 Teacher must know students’ level of
knowledge so that the writing tasks can be
done by students.
 Teacher must choose topics that students
familiar with.
Students Writing Strategies
 Teacher should consider giving writing tasks
that will encourage students to use and
practise writing strategies.
 Writing strategies will help and guide
students to write better.
Students’ Needs
 Teacher must know different students need
different approaches or ways to improve their
writing.
 The effectiveness of any teaching strategy or
behaviour change approach is influenced by
the degree to which it responds to students’
needs.

  • 2. Students Proficiency Level  Teacher should consider the level of proficiency that students have so the writing tasks would suit them.  There are 5 level of proficiency in English: a) Beginner b) Early Intermediate c) Intermediate d) Early Advanced e) Advanced
  • 3. Student Level of Knowledge  Teacher must know students’ level of knowledge so that the writing tasks can be done by students.  Teacher must choose topics that students familiar with.
  • 4. Students Writing Strategies  Teacher should consider giving writing tasks that will encourage students to use and practise writing strategies.  Writing strategies will help and guide students to write better.
  • 5. Students’ Needs  Teacher must know different students need different approaches or ways to improve their writing.  The effectiveness of any teaching strategy or behaviour change approach is influenced by the degree to which it responds to students’ needs.
