FACE- VASCULAR SUPPLY
DR ARSHEEN (PT)
ARTERIAL SUPPLY OF FACE
• Two arteries:
• Facial artery
• Superficial temporal artery
• Below the level of neck external carotid artery is present.
• When it enters the face it is divided into two branches.
FACIAL ARTERY
• Starts at lower level of neck
• Pass through posterior surface of submandibular gland
• Passes anteroinferior to masseter muscle
• Cross the angle of mouth
• Goes towards medial side of nose
• Goes upward to become ophthalmic artery
• 5 branches:
• Submental artery: chin + lower lip
• Inferior labial artery: lower lip near angle of mouth
• Superior labial artery: upper lip + septum and ala of nose
• Lateral nasal: lateral part of nose
• Angular artery
SUPERFICIAL TEMPORAL ARTERY
• Three branches:
• Transverse facial artery
• Frontal part of STA
• Parietal branch of STA
VENOUS DRAINAGE OF FACE
Supraorbital vein + supratrochlear vein
facial vein
Passes through anteroinferior angle of masseter
pierces deep fascia
Joins anterior division of retromandibular vein
Forms common facial vein
Drain into internal jugular vein
Facial vein + superficial ophthalmic vein
Cavernous sinus
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE OF FACE
Superficial lymph nodes
Drains into deep cervical lymph nodes
Drains into jugular lymphatic trunk
• Lymph nodes:
• Occipital
• Mastoid
• Pre-auricular
• Parotid
• Submental
• Facial
• Superficial cervical
