ABSTRACT
Tilting-Suspension System (Leaning
Suspension System) Bike mainly consist of
Independent Suspension System, in addition of
‘Tilting or Leaning’ Mechanism.
While turning right/left, Passengers on a vehicle
feel G-Force or inertial Force outward the radius
of the Curvature, that is why 2-wheeler riders
lean towards the center of curvature Which
improves the Stability & decrease chance of
Toppling. So, Tilting Suspension System is the
solution of this problem. by this suspension
system increase thestability of the Rider or
passenger.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
 The present arrangement overcomes the cornering
problems of vehicle by counter-acting the centrifugal force
exerted upon a vehicle and its rider during a turn.
Why Lean a Vehical:
During a cornering sequence the forces acting to roll a
vehicle out of a corner are balanced by the vehicles ability to
shift/lower its center of gravity.
This ability provides the most effective and efficient
method to safely navigate through a cornering sequence.
BASICS OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM
Suspension is the system of Tires, Springs, Shock absorbers &
Linkages that connect a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative
motion between the two.
TYPES OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM:-
1. DEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM
- SOLID AXLE
2. INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM
- DOUBLE WISHBONE
3. SEMI-INDEPENEDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM
- TWIST BEAM
DEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :
 In Dependent Suspension there
is a rigid linkage between the two
wheels of the same axle.
A force acting on one wheel will
effect the opposite wheel.
 For each motion of the wheel
caused by road irregularities
affects the coupled wheel as well.
INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :
 This system means that the suspension
is set-up in such a way that allows the
wheel on the left and right side of the
vehicle
 It tends to move vertically independent
up and down while driving on uneven
surface.
 A force acting on the single wheel does
not affect the other as there is no
mechanical linkage present between the
two hubs of the same vehicle.
SEMI-INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :
 This type of system has both the
characteristics of dependent as well
as independent suspension.
 In semi-independent suspension,
the wheel move relative to one
another as in independent
suspension
 but the position of one wheel has
some effect on the other wheel. This
is done with the help of twisting
suspension parts.
TILTING OR (LEANING) SUSPENSION SYSTEM :
 In this “Tilting Suspension
system” mainly consist of
'Independent Suspension
System',
 in addition of ‘Tilting or
Leaning’ Mechanism, with the
combination of “Double
wishbone Suspension” &
“Stering Mechanism.

3. WHEELS (Three WHEELS - Tadpole Configuration)
4. SHOCK ABSORBERS
5. BRAKES (Drum Type)
6. STEERING
7. DOUBLE WISHBONE SUSPENSION
8. BALL JOINTS
SPECIFICATIONS OF ENGINE
1) Engine Displacement - 98.2 CC
2) Engine Type - 2 Stroke
3) Number Of Cylinders - 1
4) Max Power - 7.9 PS @5500 rpm
5) Max Torque - 9.8 NM @5000 rpm
6) Fuel Type - Petrol
7) Type of Cooling - Air cooled.
TYPES OF TILTING TRIKE DESIGNS
1) The DELTA CONFIGURATION:
The Delta having a single wheel at forward and
two wheels are at Backward
Pros:-
 Easy to design, concepts follow that of a
standard bicycle
 Lower cost to manufacturer, uses standard
bicycles components
Cons:-
 Quick moment of inertia causes excessive roll.
 This condition can be corrected using a lean
steering mechanism.
TYPES OF TILTING TRIKE DESIGNS
2) The TADPOLE CONFIGURATION:
The TADPOLE having a two wheels at forward and
single wheel are at Backward
Pros:-
 Two wheels in front offer excellent overall braking
 Overall excellent handling
Cons:-
 Steering systems are more complicated and require
unique parts
 Design is complicated and dependent on many
contingencies.
TILTING TRIKES BY GLOBAL COMPANIES
I. PIAGGIO mp3:
The Piaggio MP3 is a tilting
three-wheeled scooter from Italian
manufacturer.
piaggio first marketed in 2006
noted for its combination of two front
wheels and a single rear wheel.
Piaggio MP3 used the exclusive
500 cc motor with the electronic
"ride by wire" system
TILTING TRIKES BY GLOBAL COMPANIES
II. YAMAHA Trycity:
The Yamaha Tricity is a Tilting
three-wheeled motor scooter made
by Yamaha motor company.
It was introduced to the Thai
market in April, 2014.
The Tricity was developed by the
Yamaha development team in
cooperation with Race engineer
“KAZUHISA TAKANO”.
ADVANTAGES :
 Tilting Suspension bikes are more comfort to Physically
Handicapped people
 it minimises the Turning Radius of the vehicle for comfort
of Riders
 If the roads do not have Banking, it will not affect the
comfort with this system
 The vehicle tilt & decrease height of Center of Gravity
with increase stability
 vehicle with this suspension system needs less parking
area
CONCLUSION
It is also very economical and fairly simple to drive. Thus
we can conclude that the performance, handling and safety of
the Trike are much better than any other commercially
available three wheeler.

  • 3. ABSTRACT Tilting-Suspension System (Leaning Suspension System) Bike mainly consist of Independent Suspension System, in addition of ‘Tilting or Leaning’ Mechanism. While turning right/left, Passengers on a vehicle feel G-Force or inertial Force outward the radius of the Curvature, that is why 2-wheeler riders lean towards the center of curvature Which improves the Stability & decrease chance of Toppling. So, Tilting Suspension System is the solution of this problem. by this suspension system increase thestability of the Rider or passenger.
  • 4. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT  The present arrangement overcomes the cornering problems of vehicle by counter-acting the centrifugal force exerted upon a vehicle and its rider during a turn. Why Lean a Vehical: During a cornering sequence the forces acting to roll a vehicle out of a corner are balanced by the vehicles ability to shift/lower its center of gravity. This ability provides the most effective and efficient method to safely navigate through a cornering sequence.
  • 5. BASICS OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM Suspension is the system of Tires, Springs, Shock absorbers & Linkages that connect a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the two. TYPES OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM:- 1. DEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM - SOLID AXLE 2. INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM - DOUBLE WISHBONE 3. SEMI-INDEPENEDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM - TWIST BEAM
  • 6. DEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :  In Dependent Suspension there is a rigid linkage between the two wheels of the same axle. A force acting on one wheel will effect the opposite wheel.  For each motion of the wheel caused by road irregularities affects the coupled wheel as well.
  • 7. INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :  This system means that the suspension is set-up in such a way that allows the wheel on the left and right side of the vehicle  It tends to move vertically independent up and down while driving on uneven surface.  A force acting on the single wheel does not affect the other as there is no mechanical linkage present between the two hubs of the same vehicle.

SEMI-INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM :  This type of system has both the characteristics of dependent as well as independent suspension.  In semi-independent suspension, the wheel move relative to one another as in independent suspension  but the position of one wheel has some effect on the other wheel. This is done with the help of twisting suspension parts.
  • 9. TILTING OR (LEANING) SUSPENSION SYSTEM :  In this “Tilting Suspension system” mainly consist of 'Independent Suspension System',  in addition of ‘Tilting or Leaning’ Mechanism, with the combination of “Double wishbone Suspension” & “Stering Mechanism.

TYPES OF TILTING TRIKE DESIGNS 1) The DELTA CONFIGURATION: The Delta having a single wheel at forward and two wheels are at Backward Pros:-  Easy to design, concepts follow that of a standard bicycle  Lower cost to manufacturer, uses standard bicycles components Cons:-  Quick moment of inertia causes excessive roll.  This condition can be corrected using a lean steering mechanism.

TYPES OF TILTING TRIKE DESIGNS 2) The TADPOLE CONFIGURATION: The TADPOLE having a two wheels at forward and single wheel are at Backward Pros:-  Two wheels in front offer excellent overall braking  Overall excellent handling Cons:-  Steering systems are more complicated and require unique parts  Design is complicated and dependent on many contingencies.

ADVANTAGES :  Tilting Suspension bikes are more comfort to Physically Handicapped people  it minimises the Turning Radius of the vehicle for comfort of Riders  If the roads do not have Banking, it will not affect the comfort with this system  The vehicle tilt & decrease height of Center of Gravity with increase stability  vehicle with this suspension system needs less parking area
  • 17. CONCLUSION It is also very economical and fairly simple to drive. Thus we can conclude that the performance, handling and safety of the Trike are much better than any other commercially available three wheeler.
