-the largest computer network in the world consists of networks of networks that combine billions of computer users globally-the concept of the internet was conceived during the Cold War when the US wanted to be able to communicate with one another, and through a secure network that would not fail in an event of an attack-the US government funded a project called the Advance Research Projects Agency Network (A.R.P.A.NET) that helped to mode and shape the modern day internet-the four node network between these Universities was revolutionary even after the first system crashed after the third letter was transmitted
-the TCP/IP allows different types of computers to communicate allowing them to be compatible-the internet is the core that drives the web which allows us to use social networks, research and shop
-a client is the computer that ask for data and the server is a computer that receives the requests and returns the data to the client-there are 5 steps in the client server network process, client which asks for information, the request of information is sent to the server known as the URL, the data then is taken through smaller pathways HTML, the data then reaches the Server of the requested information, after data is received it is then returned through the fastest pathway back to the client which would be the Web Browser
-social network services are used to communicate and share information amongst each other via facebook, twitter, you-tube-these are all forms of social media in communicating with friends
-e-mail is the most widely used form of electronic communication over because of how fast and convenient it is-e-mails can vary by the type of etiquettes used in writing professional or casual e-mails-a web based e-mail manages with web browser and allows you access your account through the web Gmail, Yahoo, etc.-e-mail client allows for personal accounts to be linked through various programs such as Microsoft Outlook -businesses use it to directly communicate with coworkers-groups chats can consist of one on one or multiple persons on AIM, Google Chat, Yahoo Messenger or Windows messenger
-the web browsers are used to execute the function of searching and retrieving information from the client to the server from the internet-the following are examples of the more popular browsers used to search the internet-to make navigation easier the browsers are equipped with built in search boxes and tabs
-tabbed browsing is located on the web browser and aides in the smooth navigation from web pages to other tabs-the tabs can also be torn away from the current tabs and opened in a new browsing window while tabs remain visible-tabs can also be personalized with privacy settings or set favorite in the tabs on the web page -the combined search and address enable the user to search both the website URL or the web from the address bar-smart screen filters are made to protect the browsers from phishing, malware or other harmful web-based threats-privacy browsing creates the ability to search the web with having a history trail-add-ons are programs acquired to customize and make the browser work more efficiently-the browsing tabs also have restoration features in case of an incidental shut down or mishalve with the browser
-the uniform resource locator (URL) identifies the web document in several different strands-protocols are the HTTP that the website begins with that allows files to be transferred from a web server to ypur computer-the FTP is used to transfers files from the computer to a web serve.
-the domain identifies the host where the website files are stored-the information after each slash is called the path-hyperlinks allow you to navigate around the web, allowing you to jump form web page to web page-the breadcrumbs trail is a navigation tool that shows the user how to recall the path they have taken while browsing
