Hermosillo is the capital city of the state of Sonora, Mexico. It is located in the center of Sonora state, 270 km from the U.S. border. According to the 2010 census, Hermosillo is the 16th largest city in Mexico. The city was originally founded in the 1700s as a Spanish presidio to restrain local indigenous groups and protect expansion. It has a warm desert climate with an average annual temperature of 25°C. Hermosillo has a public transportation system and several museums and cultural venues, including the Museo de Sonora and Emiliana Zubeldía Theatre.
