Welcome to Explore Bachelor of
Engineering Technology (BEngTech)
•This Explore session will give you information
about the BEng degree and its high demand in
industry.
•We aim to give you an insight into the purpose,
structure, and specialist areas that can be
achieved during your studies, and the diverse
career opportunities that await you.
3
•BEngTech stands for Bachelor of
Engineering Technology.
•Engineering is the application
of scientific, economic, social, and
practical knowledge in order to design,
build, and maintain structures,
machines, devices, systems, materials
and processes.
4
• The BEngTech Programme is under the Faculty of EDICT
(Engineering , Design and ICT).
• The aim of the programme is to provide students with a
comprehensive set of skills for employment as Engineering
Technologists.
• The priority is to produce graduates who are competent,
work-ready, adaptable and committed to team work and life-
long learning.
• Tutors come from many countries including Bahrain, New
Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, India, Greece, Cyprus.
5
• Applicants MUST achieve the minimum
requirements in English, Mathematics and IT
(if applicable) to join the programme.
• Applicants must also show competence in
mathematics used in technology by
successfully completing AP4102
Mathematics (Technical) taught in the
Certificate in Academic Preparation (CAP).
6
The BEngTech Programme is a four year, eight semester
(Full-Time) programme.
Students must complete 480 credits to graduate.
All students study the principles of Electronics, Electrical
and Mechanical Engineering as well as Technical
Mathematics and English.

7
At the start of the second year, students
select their major and any elective courses
required. Engineering English courses
continue to the end of the second year.
During the third and fourth years students
can apply their fundamental knowledge of
Engineering to advanced courses related
to their major.
There are two majors in the BEngTech
Programme: Electronics and Mechanical
8
• BEngTech students concentrate on
applying their technical skills and knowledge
to solve real world problems in an
increasingly hands-on manner.
•Final Year Project - students independently
develop an engineering product suggested
by the tutors or an engineering company.
•Work Placement - students are required to
complete 80 days of approved work
placement while working for an organization
in Bahrain.
9
Electronics deals with electrical
circuits that involve active electrical
components such as vacuum
tubes, transistors, diodes and integ
rated circuits, and associated
passive interconnection
technologies.
10
• The behaviour of active components and
their ability to control electron flows makes
amplification of weak signals possible and
electronics is widely used in information
processing, telecommunications, and signal
processing.
• The ability of electronic devices to act as
switches makes digital information
processing possible.
11
12
•Typical positions for an Electronics
Major graduate include:
• instrumentation and control for the
petrochemical industry;
• robotics and industrial automation;
• industrial electronics;
• telecommunications;
• design of hardware and software
systems;
• electronics product design.

14
•Mechanical engineering is a
discipline of engineering that applies
the principles of
engineering, physics and materials
science for analysis,
design, manufacturing, and
maintenance of mechanical systems.
•It is the branch of engineering that involves the
production and usage of heat and mechanical power for
the design, production, and operation
of machines and tools.
15
• The mechanical engineering field requires an
understanding of core concepts
including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics
and materials science.
• Mechanical engineers use these core principles along
with tools like computer-aided engineering and product
life-cycle management to design and
analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and
machinery, heating and cooling
systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft,
robotics, medical devices, and others.
16
17
Typical positions for a Mechanical
Major graduate include:
• reliability and maintenance
engineering;
• industrial process engineer;
• building services;
• construction;
• mechanical manufacturing;
• computer-aided manufacturing
(CAM).
