What is aNapkin?
• A napkin is a piece of cloth or paper used
during meals.
• It protects clothes and cleans the mouth and
hands.
• In hotels and restaurants, napkins also serve
an aesthetic function.

Why Fold Napkins?

What You Need
•• Clean napkin (cotton or linen)
• • Flat surface or table
• • Iron (optional, to smooth fabric)
• • Clean hands

Basic Napkin Folds
•1. The Pyramid Fold
• 2. The Bishop’s Hat
• 3. The Fan Fold
• 4. The Rose Fold
• 5. The Pocket Fold

Step 1: PyramidFold
• 1. Start with a square napkin.
• 2. Fold it in half diagonally to make a triangle.
• 3. Place the triangle with the closed edge
facing you.
• 4. Bring the two corners on each side up to
meet the top point.
• 5. Turn the napkin over and stand it upright.

Step 2: RoseFold
• 1. Lay napkin flat and roll from one corner to
the opposite side.
• 2. Coil the roll in a spiral shape.
• 3. Tuck the end under to hold shape.
• 4. Adjust folds to resemble petals.

Step 3: Bishop’sHat Fold
• 1. Fold napkin in half diagonally.
• 2. Bring left and right corners up to top point
to form a diamond.
• 3. Fold right and left sides inward slightly.
• 4. Tuck one side into the other to secure.
• 5. Stand it upright.

Creative Napkin Ideas
•• Combine colors with table themes
• • Add accessories: rings, flowers, or ribbons
• • Seasonal styles: Christmas tree, heart shape,
or lotus

Napkin Etiquette forGuests
• • Place napkin on lap when seated
• • Do not wipe the mouth with a dirty napkin
corner
• • Leave napkin neatly beside the plate when
finished
