1. Expectationsabout profesional practicum
This is the beginning of the end of a long process: becoming a teacher of English. As always, I
feel a bit anxious not knowing much about the school I’llbe working in, the teacher who’s going
to be my mentor, and specially the students I’ll be teaching. Hopefully, the anxiousness will
start dissipating once I begin teaching some classes and start getting used to some of the many
aspects that constitute being a teacher.
To be completely honest, I feel like all the knowledge I have gathered during my mayor is not
nearly enough to call myself a teacher. Or maybe I do have the knowledge, but it is all
scrambled randomly and needs a catalyst to rearrange the data orderly. Whatever the case, this
insecurity arises whenever I have to plan a lesson, teach grammar or even just write something
on the board.
I really wish that everything falls into place once I start earning some teaching experience. I´m
sure every student-teacher, at some point, had to “throw him/herself at the lions” and learn
through sheer attrition. I also expect both my mentor and university teachers to make me work
hard, so I can reach my potential.
