The document discusses the importance of self-belief in achieving excellence and success. It provides examples from sports of how believing you will succeed is essential to actually succeeding. People at board and top management typically believe that transforming a company from good to great requires an extreme personality, an egocentric chief to lead the corporate charge. But that’s not the case in 21st century management world, where the basic essence of management is more of human emotions and sentiments centric. The essential ingredient for taking a company to greatness is having a “Level 5” leader, an executive in whom extreme personal humility blends paradoxically with intense professional will. This session will focus on explaining the various aspects of leadership and its levels and will focus on the hardcore aspect of transformational leadership which not only focuses on ‘having jobs done’ and ‘having targets met’ but will transform an organization from ‘good’ to ‘great’. It involves explanation of difference between a manager and a leader and how leadership has become an essential element of modern managing function and what are the competencies relevant to leadership qualities. The core learning that will be transferred during this session is that a leader needs IQ and Technical Expertise for sure, but there is something more important if a leader needs to exercise Level 5 transformational leadership and that is EQ (Emotional Quotient). Various dimensions of EQ a Level 5 leaders should possess will be explained and focus will be put on how such EQ can be developed. The session ends with some strategic suggestions for exercise of Level 5 leadership for taking organization from ‘good’ to ‘great’.

The document discusses how companies are increasingly recognizing that more value comes from human factors like customer relationships, employee skills and knowledge, rather than just financial assets. It highlights the importance of understanding and measuring these intangible, human sources of value. The research found that CEOs see customers and employees as the most influential forces shaping their future businesses. In the next 18-24 months, companies plan to focus on reducing costs while also investing in innovation, marketing, upgrading talent and strengthening management - showing consideration of both financial and human factors. Overall the document argues that properly understanding and reporting on the human sources of a company's value is key to long-term sustainable success.
This document provides context on the telecommunications sector. It notes that telecom operators have weathered economic uncertainty and volatility relatively well due to their defensive positioning. However, their future growth is uncertain as investors question the levels of capital expenditure needed to support growth and whether operators or over-the-top players will monetize new offerings. Some positive trends for operators include easing mobile termination rate regulations and a slowing pace of landline decline, but telecom revenues remain linked to employment rates which are trending downward. Overall, operators can benefit from improving performance supported by structural changes, strong cost control, and network sharing.
This document summarizes a presentation given by Viren Lall, Secretary of the APM Benefits SIG and Head of Business Transformation at BT, on keeping business management (BM) simple, workable and alive during business transformation (BT) efforts. Some key challenges discussed include BM being seen as a separate task by consultants, analysts and architects rather than an integrated process. The presentation outlines efforts by BT to address these challenges, such as simplifying BM training, providing clear direction on mapping benefits, and motivating transformation professionals to find more benefits. Keeping BM ownership clear and ensuring maps are 80% correct but fully owned is emphasized as more important than striving for 100% accuracy.
This document analyzes sustainability and corporate responsibility reports from several large European companies. It finds that most reports discuss how sustainability is integrated into business strategy and operations. However, many reports focus more on general "housekeeping" issues rather than complex social and environmental challenges facing their industries. The analysis praises a few companies, like Volkswagen and E.ON, for tackling difficult issues and stakeholder expectations in their reporting. Overall, the document evaluates how well companies explain their approach to material issues and progress on "CR 2.0," or fully embedding sustainability into the core business.
After a global downturn that made executives cautious and conservative, companies are now preparing for a return to growth. Executives are focusing on revenue growth over cost cutting and are turning to new tools like open innovation, scenario planning, and price optimization to support growth initiatives. However, companies also recognize risks in assuming the downturn strengthened their competitive positions and in relying too heavily on untested tools.
