Pop Art emerged in the late 1950s to 1970s in America and Britain, characterized by popular and commercial ideas from everyday life. Claes Oldenburg, an important leader in the Pop Art movement, opened The Store in 1961 and believed art should relate to humans and our lives with purpose and meaning found in nature, actions, and advertisements. American artist Andy Warhol also pioneered Pop Art, drawing from advertisements and comic strips.
