MOTUKEA EVPAWARD PRESENTATION
Introduction
On the 2nd June 2015 the Materials and Logistics team at Motukea Supply Base was presented with
the EVP Safety Award for 2014, by the Exploration Operations and HSE Managers, Dave Lester and
Craig Ebblewhite. Following is a summary of the incident for which Motukea was nominated.
This team demonstrated the attitudes and behaviors required to achieve Target Zero.
A 3rd party contractor arrived at the Motukea Supply Base to collect, transport and remove Dura
Matts. The Motukea team identified that the truck did not have the necessary front or rear bolster
protection to ensure the loads could be transported safely. The team stopped the job and discussed
with the 3rd party contractor what was going to be required to transport the loads safely. Subsequently
the 3rd party contactors truck was removed from the site without any load and underwent significant
refurbishment to ensure front and rear bolsters were installed so loads could be transported safely.
They identified the risks to the driver, other road users and local communities and took assertive
action to stop and fix the defects so an error could not occur.
For this reason the Motukea Supply Chain Team has been recognized as demonstrating safety
leadership through living the Talisman Values.
Dave Lester said “the Motukea Supply Base Team is a great example of a high performing team that
demonstrates the four key behaviors of Focus, Support, Communicate and Improve to deliver safer
and better operations. It gives me great pleasure to take some time out as a team to celebrate this
success and to present you with the EVP award plaque and certificates. Well done team.”
