• Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? And at the sky - how it is raised?
And at the mountains - how they are erected? And at the earth - how it is spread out? So remind,
[O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. You are not over them a controller.(Al-Ghasiyah/17-22)

The Five Pillars of Islam
Fasting in Ramadan
Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Zakaat (The Poor Due)
Salaat (The daily Prayer)
Shahada (Declaration of Faith)
Shahada ( Declaration of Faith)
“I bear witness that there is no other god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger
of Allah’’
“Ashhadu Alla Ilaha Illa Allah Wa Ashhadu Anna Muhammad Rasulu Allah”
 It is a key to enter Islam to say this in Arabic
 A Muslim is a brother of a Muslim. (Bukhari)
Salaat (The daily Prayer)
 Salaat is a pillar of the Deen. (Hadith/Tabrani)
 The Salat is the Key to Paradise.
 The (whole) earth has been made good for
me, a means of purification and a mosque
(or place of prayer); so wherever a man may
be when the time for prayer comes, let him
pray wherever he is.(Sahih Muslim, 521)
What is salaat?
They are five prayers at five times. Prayer in Islam is a
direct link between the mankind and Allah. Each prayer
does not take more than a few minutes to perform
 Strengthen the belief in Allah
 Inspire the morality and attitude
 Time management
 Frequent cleanup and tidy
 Athan or Azan, call for pray
 Regular exercise
 There are approximately 86 verses about prayer in the Quran
There is no deity except me, so
worship me and establish prayer for my
remembrance.(Surat Taha/14)
Wudu- Partial Ablution
Washing parts of the body using water, typically in preparation
for formal prayers (salat), but also before handling and reading
the Qur'an
 O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform]
prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows
and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the
ankles.( Al-Maidah/6)
 Cleanliness is a part of the Faith. (Hadith/Tirmizi)
 The example of the five (daily) prayers is like that of a clear-
water river flowing in front of your houses in which a
person washes himself five times a day – cleansing him
from all dirt.(Hadith/Kanzul `Ummal)
In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially
Merciful. [All] praise is [due] to Allah , Lord of the worlds. The
Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Sovereign of the Day
of Recompense. It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom
You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked
[Your] anger or of those who are astray.(Al-Fatiha 1/1-7)
The importance of Prayer
• Remembering the God
• Being thankful and praising
• Not to feel lonely or hopeless
• Keeping people away from bad habits
• Love and brotherhood
 So remember me; I will remember you. And be grateful to me
and do not deny me.(El-Bakarah/152)

Zakaat (The Poor Due)
Zakaat in Arabic means “grow”, “increase”, and “purifying”.
So, actually the act of giving Zakah means purifying the
wealth to gain Allah's blessing. Practically, is to give 2.5 %
of wealth each year to the poor and needy.
 Purify self-heart and wealth
 Allah forgives your sins
 Frees oneself from love of oneself
 Ends poverty as Zakat is given to poor
 Reduces crimes
And establish prayer and give zakat, and whatever good you
put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah.
Indeed, Allah of what you do, is Seeing.(El-Bakara/110)
 There are approximately 31 verses about zakaat in the Quran
Fasting in the month of Ramadan
During the Arabic month of Ramadan, Muslims are
requested to abstain from food, eat, and sexual
intercourse from dawn until sunset.
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was
decreed upon those before you that you may become
righteous ( El-Bakara 2/183)
 To strengthen the power of self-control and patience
 To feel the pain of poor and needy
 To stop us from doing sins, bad habits
 To improve health
 To bring us closer to Allah
 Fasting is a shield (from sins). (Tirmizi)
Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Hajj (Pilgrimage)
It is the holy trip to Makkah once in lifetime if one can
afford it physically and financially.
 To clean Muslims of all their sins
 Makkah is the most sacred place
 Teaching noble morals (modesty, patience,.. )
 Example of the universal message, equality and unity
of Islam
 Hajj is a great Islamic conference ; every race, class,
and nationality join together

In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham.
And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from
the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is
able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then
indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.(Ali Imran/97)
Six pillars of Faith
• Belief in Allah
• Belief in the Angels
• Belief in Allah’s Books
• Belief in the Prophets
• Belief in the Day of Judgment
• Belief in the Divine Destiny
and that the good and bad of it are all from Allah.
El-Nisa/136
There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the
religion( Al-Bakara/256)ِ‫ين‬ِ‫الد‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ َ‫ه‬‫ا‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ك‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫ال‬
Belief in Allah
 One, unique, incomparable
 Has no son nor partner
 Only to be worthy of worshipped lonely
 Allah has the most magnificent names and
sublime perfect attributes
 The existence of the angels
 They are honored creatures
 The angels worship God alone
Belief in the Angels
Belief in Revealed Books
 Revelations were given to guide the people
 The original scripture brought by Prophets
 Moses, Jesus, David, Abraham & Mohammad
 Bible, Torah, Psalm, Quran
Belief in Prophets & Messengers
 All messengers were human beings
 Their message is the same
 Starting with Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac,
Jacob, Moses, and Jesus & Muhammad
 Goethe, the German writer said: “Whenever I read Kuran, I
feel my soul shaking inside my body.”
Belief in the Day of Judgment
 This will come to an end
 All people will be resurrected for judgment
 People with good records will be generously rewarded
 People with bad records will be fairly punished
there are approximately 100 verses about the Last Day in the Quran
Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your
[full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who
is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has
attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world
except the enjoyment of delusion.(Ali Imran-3/185)
Belief in Divine Predestination
 God knows everything & recorded all actions
 Whatever God wills to happen; it will happen
 Accept & patience with what Allah has decreed
 Our knowledge is limited but His knowledge is
limitless
 God has given human beings freewill
And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its
provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of
storage. All is in a clear register.(Surat Hud/6)
Headscarf
Why headscarf (hijab)?
• And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their
adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over
their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers,
their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which
their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware
of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their
adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.(El-Nour/31)
Woman in Islam
• The most complete of the believers in faith, is the one with the best
character. And the best of you are those who are best to their
women.”(Hadith/At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani)
• “I commend you to be kind to women.” (Hadith)
 In Islam, men and women are treated with
equity: “natural justice”
 However, the limits and rights for men and
women may not be identical; because they
are different regarding their;creation,
abilities, roles and duties
Rights of Women in Islam
• Equality of reward for their deeds
• The right and duty to obtain education
• The right to obtain provisions from her father or brothers until she gets married
• The right to have their own independent property
• The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.
• The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it
• The right to keep all her own money
• The right to express their opinion and be heard
• The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice
• The right to obtain divorce from her husband
• The right to have custody of their children after divorce
• Right to retain her family name
• The female has the right to accept or reject marriage proposals
• And more…
The Social Aspect: Right to education
 The right of females to seek knowledge is not different from that of
males. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:"Seeking knowledge is
mandatory for every Muslim".
 The Quran repeatedly commands all readers to read, to recite, to
think, to contemplate, as well as to learn from the signs of Allah. In
fact, the very first revelation to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was
concerned with knowledge.
 Lectures of the Prophet were attended by audiences of both men
and women
 By the time of the Prophet's death, there were many women
scholars
Hadiths
• In his last sermon, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “O People, it is true that you
have certain rights over your women, but they also have rights over you.
Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under God's trust and
with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to
be fed and clothed in kindness. Treat your women well and be kind to them, for
they are your partners and committed helpers. It is your right and they do not
make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be
unchaste...”
• "The world and all things in the world are precious but the most precious thing in
the world is a virtuous woman”
• "When a man marries, he has completed one half of his religion.“
Woman have had rights for the first time in 632
• Once Mu'awiyah asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "What are
the rights that a wife has over her husband?" The Prophet replied, "
Feed her when you take your food, give her clothes to wear when you wear
clothes, avoid from giving her a slap on the face or abusing her, and do not
separate from your wife, except within the house.“
• And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him,
[increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be
grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.(Al-
Lokman/14)
• Right to vote
• Participation in political affairs
• Women can be in leadership positions
• Participation in public affairs
Women in Islam – Worth to mention
• The history of Muslims is rich with women of great achievements in
all walks of life from as early as the seventh century
• Out of every 5 Muslim converts, 4 are women!
• The status which women reached in the west was achieved through a
long struggle and sacrifice on woman’s part and only when society
needed her contribution and work, during the two world wars, and
due to the escalation of technological change.
• In the case of Islam such compassionate and dignified status was
decreed more than 14 centuries ago, not because it reflects the
environment of the seventh century, nor under the threat or pressure
of women and their organizations, but rather because of its essential
truthfulness.
Why not drink alcohol?
 They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin
and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than
their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say,
"The excess [beyond needs]." Thus Allah makes clear to you the
verses [of revelation] that you might give thought.( Al-
Bakhara/219)

  • 12. Shahada ( Declaration of Faith) “I bear witness that there is no other god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah’’ “Ashhadu Alla Ilaha Illa Allah Wa Ashhadu Anna Muhammad Rasulu Allah”  It is a key to enter Islam to say this in Arabic  A Muslim is a brother of a Muslim. (Bukhari)
  • 13. Salaat (The daily Prayer)  Salaat is a pillar of the Deen. (Hadith/Tabrani)  The Salat is the Key to Paradise.  The (whole) earth has been made good for me, a means of purification and a mosque (or place of prayer); so wherever a man may be when the time for prayer comes, let him pray wherever he is.(Sahih Muslim, 521)
  • 14. What is salaat? They are five prayers at five times. Prayer in Islam is a direct link between the mankind and Allah. Each prayer does not take more than a few minutes to perform  Strengthen the belief in Allah  Inspire the morality and attitude  Time management  Frequent cleanup and tidy  Athan or Azan, call for pray  Regular exercise  There are approximately 86 verses about prayer in the Quran َ‫ف‬ ‫َا‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ه‬‫ال‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫ه‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ َ‫ال‬ ُ ‫ه‬‫اَّلل‬ ‫َا‬‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬‫ه‬‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ََ َ‫َل‬‫ه‬‫ص‬‫ال‬ ِ‫م‬ِ‫ق‬َ‫أ‬ َ‫و‬ ‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬ْ‫د‬ُ‫ب‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ي‬ ِ‫ر‬ْ‫ك‬ِ‫ذ‬ِ‫ل‬ Indeed, I am Allah .
