2. The Audience:
Plot line:
We found a perfect scene from The hunger games that links well with our shot
of the Chinese people in lab coats spectating the whole thing. The scene from
the hunger games is when the main role ‘Katniss Everdeen’ trying to impress
the audience watching her. From seeing the screenshots of my thriller
sequence and the hunger games sequence, you see the similarity with the
audiences viewing it. The plot line is similar with the audience as they are
watching what is going on but the difference is in mine they are paying
attention and writing notes but in the other one it isn’t, but both loose their
attention when the character can’t do it, so the change was them paying
attention and that means we can have a short shot of them looking then
leaving rather than shots of them not paying attention throughout the whole
thing because it isn’t about the audience it is about the characters doing the
stuff. In my opinion the hunger games was more effective because it gives the
audience some characters not just them being there and it makes more of a
statement at the end of the scene.
3. Characters:
In my sequence the characters are in lab coats and are Chinese, while in
the hunger games the audience are rich people in rich clothes and wacky
hairstyles and beards. The only comparison is that some are standing, so
we changed the clothes to be more modern and not wacky, also uniformity
so the audience understand that they are scientists because they are in lab
coats and the clipboards tells the audience that it is some type of research.
I feel my sequence is more effective because it gives another perspective
for the audience and you only need a few seconds of them to understand
a whole new concept.
4. Actions:
In my sequence the people just stand and watch as well as making notes,
while in the hunger games they chat, eat and relax, so more of a social
gathering. We changed it so they are focusing on what is going on, the
similarities is that they loose concentration on it when the character can’t
do what their objective is. In my opinion I believe my sequence is more
effective because they added a whole new perspective of everything and
gives a whole new story line to it, while the other one it only follows with
them and makes the audience not ask questions about them because they
find out throughout the scene while in ours they don’t know who they are.
5. Editing:
Camera:
There is only one shot of ours for a second or so and plenty of shots for
the hunger games, we changed it to one shot because we want the
audience to ask questions and the hunger games the audience understand
who they are and why they are their. I believe my one is more effective
because the audience are curious to who they are.
We have a low angle on the Chinese scientists, while in the hunger games
it is more on their level, but both a wide shot, the only difference is the
angle, this makes the scientists more powerful than the people below them
and the hunger games one makes them more neutral with the character
doing their objective. I believe mine is more effective because it shows the
audience who’s the boss.
6. Titles:
From the screen shots, mine has white text and more harsh writing, while
the hunger games title has golden text while the letters are more bold as
well as spread out. We kept the same as in all capital letters. We changed
the text to harsh letters because the text resembles the opening sequence.
I feel that the hunger games text is more effective because it is bigger and
more spread out, so the audience will see it easier.
8. Similarities of both people are tied up looking at someone about to try
and torture/kill them. But the difference is that in lethal weapon they
actually get tortured. I feel that the lethal weapon is more effective in the
way that the audience wants to look away, but mine is more effective to
make the audience pay more attention at the screen, both effective but in
different ways.
The Girl:
Plot Line:
9. Characters:
They both look terrified, the girl is wearing a bow and a black top while the
male is not wearing anything and the girl has a gash on her head. So we
changed the nakedness and made her have a cut because we wanted the
audience to feel sorry for her. I believe lethal weapon is more effective
because it makes the audience more intrigued with what’s going on.
10. Action:
The guy gets tortured and the girl is getting threatened, the difference is
because we don’t want the girl to be tortured because she is a main
character and with more suspense from the other character with her and
her, so the audience are more intrigued. I believe mine is more effective
because there is more suspense in mine and the audience will want to
watch in carefully.
11. Editing:
Camera:
There is many shots of the girl and slow durations to make the sequence
tense while when she has quick shot durations it adds suspense between
the boy and the girl. While for lethal weapon it’s all quick shot durations
and that adds suspense and makes the audience want to look away. In my
opinion I prefer my one because it adds a lot of tense and makes the
audience wonder what’s going to happen.
They both have the same camera angles. With close ups and mid shots. So
there is no difference because we like the way they have filmed it, because
there is no changes they are both effective in the same way.
12. I have already explained our title, the difference between ours and lethal
weapon is that the colour is red and they are in italics and also bold but
not separated. I feel they are both effective, lethal weapon has red to
resemble violence, while my title is effective because it resembles the
opening sequence.
Titles:
14. There aren’t really any similarities but there are difference, zero dark thirty
guy is questioning the guy tied up and expecting an answer, while in mine
the guy is watching a boy kill a girl. They are both effective because the
guy in mine seems creepy and quite weird for the audience, while in zero
dark thirty it is all very tense and brutal so makes the audience want to
squint their eyes.
The Man:
Plot Line:
15. Character:
Both completely different characters, mine is very relaxed and then gets a
annoyed straight away, while zero dark thirty guy is intense and angry all
the time. I feel the zero dark thirty character is more effective because the
audience really get into what he is saying and feel like they are in it.
16. Actions:
The zero dark thirty guy beats up the person tied up but doesn’t kill him,
so slow torture. While my guy shoots the boy twice and stops a slow
death. I did this because we didn’t have enough time to fit in painful
deaths we had to make it quick to fit everything in. I feel the zero dark
thirty guy was more effective because he had more time to do it all.
17. Editing:
Camera:
The guy in my sequence had short shot durations to make the audience
not understand who he is and that makes him a mysterious character,
while with zero dark thirty makes them understand who he is and make
them realise what he is there to do. I believe my one is more effective
because it makes the audience question who this character is.
With my guy there is a lot of close ups, over the shoulder, mid shots and a
long shot, while for zero dark thirty guy there is mainly mid shots, we
chose a range of because we wanted the audience to see different things
like his arm movements and his motions not just his facial expressions. I
believe my one is more effective because you see more variations of what
my character is doing and how he is acting overall throughout.
18. Titles:
Both very similar, with the white writing and spaced out but zero dark
thirty is more spaced out. The difference is our words are harsher while
they are bolder. There title is more effective because you can clearly
understand it and it is quite a nice fade they have on it and they have
worked a lot of time on it.
