DNA-POCALYPSE: BRIEF OVERVIEW
• DNA-POCALYPSE IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC FILM WITH 3 MAIN CHARACTERS: BORIS,
NICOLA AND JIM. THE FILM IS ABOUT A ‘DISASTER’ CONTROLLED BY THE
GOVERNMENT IN WHICH THEY ORDERED EVERYONE TO GIVE MANDATORY DNA
SAMPLES IN ORDER TO “CONTROL CRIME”, BUT WHAT THE CITIZENS DIDN’T KNOW
WAS THAT THEY WANTED DNA SAMPLES TO CREATE ‘THE PERFECT POPULATION’
WHERE EVERYTHING IS ORDERED AND RUN BY THE GOVERNMENT IN ORDER FOR
THEM TO BE DOMINANT AND POSSESSIVE OVER LAND AND PRODUCTION. THE
GOVERNMENT ORDERS ALL CLONES TO DESTROY ANY REMAINING SURVIVORS SO
THAT THE GOVERNMENT’S PLAN OF RULING CAN TAKE PLACE. NICOLA, BORIS AND
JIM THEREFORE FIGHT THEIR WAY THROUGH IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY CAN ESCAPE
THIS DESTRUCTION.
ANALYSE MY FILM- TEXTUAL ANALYSIS. DOES
MY FILM FOLLOW OTHER FILMS SIMILAR TO
MINE?
• TO INTRODUCE THE FILM WE HAVE DECIDED TO OPEN IT UP WITH A
LONG SHOT OF THE SURVIVORS’ FEET AS THEY ARE RUNNING. THIS
WOULD HAVE HOPEFULLY CREATED TENSION AND WOULD HAVE GOT
THE AUDIENCE WONDERING WHY THEY ARE RUNNING AND WHERE THEY
ARE RUNNING TO AND FROM. THE CLIP IS LINEAR AND EXPLAINS
EVERYTHING IN AN ORDER IN WHICH THE CHARACTERS KNOW TO MAKE
THE AUDIENCE MORE WORRIED AS THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT IS GOING
TO HAPPEN, JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS DON’T. WORLD WAR Z
INCLUDES A LINEAR STORYLINE, WHICH IS ANOTHER POST APOCALYPTIC
FILM AND SO DOES THE 5TH WAVE. WE HAVE INCLUDED NON-DIEGETIC
MUSIC TO BUILD THIS TENSION UP AND INVOLVE THE AUDIENCE MORE
INTO THE SCENE. THE FAST PACED, ADVENTUROUS MUSIC IS PARALLEL
TO THE SCENES ATMOSPHERE AS BORIS, JIM AND NICOLA ARE TRYING
TO ESCAPE FROM SOMEWHERE HOPING TO FIND SHELTER.
HOW IS THE GENRE PORTRAYED?
• FIRSTLY THE LONG SHOT OF THE BORIS’,
JIM’S AND NICOLA’S FEET ALLOWS THE
BACKGROUND ,OF WHERE THEY ARE, TO BE
SHOWN TO THE AUDIENCE. THE
BACKGROUND AND THE FLOOR ARE QUITE
GREY AND SLIGHTLY DAMAGED, INDICATING
TO THE AUDIENCE THAT THEY ARE IN SOME
SORT OF TUNNEL OR SOMEWHERE
UNDERGROUND. THIS COULD CREATE THE
IDEA THAT THE OUTSIDE IS NOT SAFE FOR
THEM TO GO (AS IT IS SURROUNDED BY
KILLER CLONES). THIS HINTS AT A HORROR/
THRILLER GENRE, HOWEVER THE GENRE OF
MY FILM IS POST-APOCALYPTIC, WHICH CAN
COLOURS
• THE COLOURS OF OUR SORT CLIP ARE MOSTLY
DESATURATED COLOURS WHICH IS TYPICAL FOR A POST
APOCALYPTIC FILM AS THIS GIVES THE IMPRESSION
THAT ‘LIFE HAS BEEN DRAINED’, WHICH IS REFLECTED IN
THE LACK OF COLOUR. THE UNDERGROUND CORNER
WHICH BORIS, JIM AND NICOLA HAVE FOUND
THEMSELVES TO BECOME STUCK IN IS AL GREY AND
DULL. 28 DAYS LATER, A WELL KNOWN POST
APOCALYPTIC FILM, IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A POST-
APOCALYPTIC FILM WHICH INCLUDES DESATURATED
COLOURS. THIS INDICATES THAT THE COLOURS WHICH
WE HAVE USED ARE TYPICAL FOR OUR MAIN GENRE .
CLOTHING CHOICES
• THE CLOTHES OF THE CHARACTERS ARE QUITE
‘OLD’ AND NOT ‘FASHIONABLE’ IN TODAY’S
SOCIETY. THIS COULD UNDERLINE THE IDEA
THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO BORROW SOME
CLOTHES FROM SOMEWHERE AND THAT THEY
ARE QUITE VULNERABLE AS THEY DO NOT LOOK
PREPARED FOR ANYTHING THAT COULD HARM
THEM, WHICH ARE THE CLONES IN THIS
INSTANCE. NICOLA, FOR EXAMPLE, IS WEARING A
SCRUFFY BLACK JACKET WHICH HAS LOADS OF
DUST ETC. ON IT ,ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT
NOTICEABLE). THIS COULD EMPHASISE THE IDEA
THAT THE SURVIVORS HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR
A WHILE AND HAVEN’T HAD THE CHANCE TO
CHANGE. NICOLA’S HAIR IS IN PLAITS WHICH IS
TYPICAL OF A GIRL ‘SURVIVOR’ OR PARTICIPANT
IN A LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. KATNISS
EVERDEEN FROM THE HUNGER GAMES HAS HER
HAIR IN A PLAIT WHICH GIVES THE IMPRESSION
THAT NICOLA IS A FIGHTER, DUE TO THE FACT
THAT OTHER FEMALE ROLE MODELS IN A
SURVIVAL POSITION HAVE HAD THEIR HAIR IN A
PLAIT. BORIS CARRIES AROUND A POCKET KNIFE
WHICH COULD UNDERLINE FURTHER THAT THE
FILM IS A POST APOCALYPTIC GENRE AND THIS
IS A KEY ICON IN MANY POST APOCALYPTIC
FILMS (ICONOGRAPHY). WEAPONS OVERALL ARE

  • 2. DNA-POCALYPSE: BRIEF OVERVIEW • DNA-POCALYPSE IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC FILM WITH 3 MAIN CHARACTERS: BORIS, NICOLA AND JIM. THE FILM IS ABOUT A ‘DISASTER’ CONTROLLED BY THE GOVERNMENT IN WHICH THEY ORDERED EVERYONE TO GIVE MANDATORY DNA SAMPLES IN ORDER TO “CONTROL CRIME”, BUT WHAT THE CITIZENS DIDN’T KNOW WAS THAT THEY WANTED DNA SAMPLES TO CREATE ‘THE PERFECT POPULATION’ WHERE EVERYTHING IS ORDERED AND RUN BY THE GOVERNMENT IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE DOMINANT AND POSSESSIVE OVER LAND AND PRODUCTION. THE GOVERNMENT ORDERS ALL CLONES TO DESTROY ANY REMAINING SURVIVORS SO THAT THE GOVERNMENT’S PLAN OF RULING CAN TAKE PLACE. NICOLA, BORIS AND JIM THEREFORE FIGHT THEIR WAY THROUGH IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY CAN ESCAPE THIS DESTRUCTION.

  • 4. ANALYSE MY FILM- TEXTUAL ANALYSIS. DOES MY FILM FOLLOW OTHER FILMS SIMILAR TO MINE? • TO INTRODUCE THE FILM WE HAVE DECIDED TO OPEN IT UP WITH A LONG SHOT OF THE SURVIVORS’ FEET AS THEY ARE RUNNING. THIS WOULD HAVE HOPEFULLY CREATED TENSION AND WOULD HAVE GOT THE AUDIENCE WONDERING WHY THEY ARE RUNNING AND WHERE THEY ARE RUNNING TO AND FROM. THE CLIP IS LINEAR AND EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN AN ORDER IN WHICH THE CHARACTERS KNOW TO MAKE THE AUDIENCE MORE WORRIED AS THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS DON’T. WORLD WAR Z INCLUDES A LINEAR STORYLINE, WHICH IS ANOTHER POST APOCALYPTIC FILM AND SO DOES THE 5TH WAVE. WE HAVE INCLUDED NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC TO BUILD THIS TENSION UP AND INVOLVE THE AUDIENCE MORE INTO THE SCENE. THE FAST PACED, ADVENTUROUS MUSIC IS PARALLEL TO THE SCENES ATMOSPHERE AS BORIS, JIM AND NICOLA ARE TRYING TO ESCAPE FROM SOMEWHERE HOPING TO FIND SHELTER.
  • 5. HOW IS THE GENRE PORTRAYED? • FIRSTLY THE LONG SHOT OF THE BORIS’, JIM’S AND NICOLA’S FEET ALLOWS THE BACKGROUND ,OF WHERE THEY ARE, TO BE SHOWN TO THE AUDIENCE. THE BACKGROUND AND THE FLOOR ARE QUITE GREY AND SLIGHTLY DAMAGED, INDICATING TO THE AUDIENCE THAT THEY ARE IN SOME SORT OF TUNNEL OR SOMEWHERE UNDERGROUND. THIS COULD CREATE THE IDEA THAT THE OUTSIDE IS NOT SAFE FOR THEM TO GO (AS IT IS SURROUNDED BY KILLER CLONES). THIS HINTS AT A HORROR/ THRILLER GENRE, HOWEVER THE GENRE OF MY FILM IS POST-APOCALYPTIC, WHICH CAN

COLOURS • THE COLOURS OF OUR SORT CLIP ARE MOSTLY DESATURATED COLOURS WHICH IS TYPICAL FOR A POST APOCALYPTIC FILM AS THIS GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT ‘LIFE HAS BEEN DRAINED’, WHICH IS REFLECTED IN THE LACK OF COLOUR. THE UNDERGROUND CORNER WHICH BORIS, JIM AND NICOLA HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES TO BECOME STUCK IN IS AL GREY AND DULL. 28 DAYS LATER, A WELL KNOWN POST APOCALYPTIC FILM, IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A POST- APOCALYPTIC FILM WHICH INCLUDES DESATURATED COLOURS. THIS INDICATES THAT THE COLOURS WHICH WE HAVE USED ARE TYPICAL FOR OUR MAIN GENRE .
  • 7. CLOTHING CHOICES • THE CLOTHES OF THE CHARACTERS ARE QUITE ‘OLD’ AND NOT ‘FASHIONABLE’ IN TODAY’S SOCIETY. THIS COULD UNDERLINE THE IDEA THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO BORROW SOME CLOTHES FROM SOMEWHERE AND THAT THEY ARE QUITE VULNERABLE AS THEY DO NOT LOOK PREPARED FOR ANYTHING THAT COULD HARM THEM, WHICH ARE THE CLONES IN THIS INSTANCE. NICOLA, FOR EXAMPLE, IS WEARING A SCRUFFY BLACK JACKET WHICH HAS LOADS OF DUST ETC. ON IT ,ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT NOTICEABLE). THIS COULD EMPHASISE THE IDEA THAT THE SURVIVORS HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE AND HAVEN’T HAD THE CHANCE TO CHANGE. NICOLA’S HAIR IS IN PLAITS WHICH IS TYPICAL OF A GIRL ‘SURVIVOR’ OR PARTICIPANT IN A LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. KATNISS EVERDEEN FROM THE HUNGER GAMES HAS HER HAIR IN A PLAIT WHICH GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT NICOLA IS A FIGHTER, DUE TO THE FACT THAT OTHER FEMALE ROLE MODELS IN A SURVIVAL POSITION HAVE HAD THEIR HAIR IN A PLAIT. BORIS CARRIES AROUND A POCKET KNIFE WHICH COULD UNDERLINE FURTHER THAT THE FILM IS A POST APOCALYPTIC GENRE AND THIS IS A KEY ICON IN MANY POST APOCALYPTIC FILMS (ICONOGRAPHY). WEAPONS OVERALL ARE
