2. Genre is defined as a category of art, music or
literature.
The Genre that I have chose for my film is crime and
thriller.

3. The reason I chose these genres is because I believe that people
should be exposed to the dark aspects of the world along with
the good ones.
The institution that I have chosen
for my film has also produced
numerous crime or thriller films,
such as “The Godfather” which
is still remembered as a classic.

4. The mise-en-scene of the crime thriller genre is usually dark. Low
lighting can be called essential as it connotes the inner darkness of the
characters. We can see this in movies like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The
Conversation’.

5. Similarly, the lighting for indoor scenes in my film is also somewhat
dark. This was done in order to depict the dark personality of the
character.

6. The characters in crime and thriller films are usually shown as either
‘good’ or ‘bad’ and thus, their props are used to depict that. For
example, certain characters would use and abuse drugs and use
weapons etc. We can see the use of both in ‘The Godfather’.

7. Similarly, in my film the criminal is seen with both, drugs (cigarette)
and a weapon.

8. For editing my film, I used ‘Windows Movie Maker’ as it was relatively
easier to use. I used ‘match on action’ and ‘shot/reverse shot’, as well.
In my film, one scene cuts to another.

9. Like most crime and thriller films, the title of my film is
also set against a dark background. For example, the title
of The Godfather is also set against a black background.

10. Challenges
In most crime films, outdoor scenes are shot in the dark.
Especially when criminals are trying to hide. However, in
my film, the scenes outdoors are shot in day light.
