EVALUATION-QUESTION
         1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
                     products?
THE GENRE
I have chosen to do a Thriller and so I will first tell you what the conventions of a thriller usually are.

 Low key lighting

 Grey filter

 Someone is killed

 Storylines can be confusing

 Eerie music is played

 Dark/dull colours

 Don’t see the main character face on until later.

I have chosen nine frames in my film which I would like to comment on and elaborate how I challenge
or conform to the thriller conventions.
FRAME ONE
This frame is in the first scene of opening. As you can
see I have chosen to film on a bad day so it isn’t that
sunny and rather grey. You can see two characters in
the frame the victim who is a man and the killer; who
you can’t see the face of but certain aspects imply it’s
a woman e.g. long hair. This challenges a very big
aspect in a thriller genre, the idea that a woman kills a
man isn’t very common and the roles of killer and
victim have being reversed. This is because women
are seen to be more vulnerable and in need of
protection. Because I reversed the roles it challenges
     this convention.
FRAME TWO

In this frame I have decided to
     follow the conventions as you
can only see the feet of the killer
     approaching the victim slowly.
From the boots you can tell that
this person isn’t to be taken
     lightly, they mean business.
FRAME THREE

In this frame again you cannot see
the killer face on but you can see
her getting closer. In this shot the
gate will crash and the man will
turn around this makes it very
eerie when there is nothing there.
Making it seem more like a thriller.
FRAME FOUR

This frame is just designed to look
eerie with the music in the
background giving it an extra bit
of mystery. The idea of a swing
swinging in the wind looks quite
     frightening as the audience will
     know that someone or something
else is there with the character
FRAME FIVE

     Again this frame suggests that
     there is something
     else, something unsettling about
     the way the roundabout is
     spinning mindlessly by itself.
     This conforms to the thriller
     genre
FRAME SIX

In this frame I used a free hand
camera to show as though the
     character is being watched by
     someone. This creates tension as
the advice will expect an intense
     build up.
FRAME SEVEN

This frame creates a lot of
tension as you can see the killer
      approaching from behind the
victim. The next scene is a black
screen with the sound of a
      branch snapping. This implies
that the guy has being killed.
FRAME EIGHT

In this frame you can clearly see
that the guy is dead and the
woman reaches for a box. This is
a establishing scene to show that
the box is valuable. It still
conforms to the thriller genre as
      you never see her face.
FRAME NINE

     Frame nine shows the woman
walking away again you cannot see
her face. And the whole sequence
     just feels eerie accompanied with
the music. There is no dialogue
just so that the audience could
     make their own assumptions on
     what just happened.
Q & A
               FROM VIEWERS

Q-Where you surprised that the A- I guess, you took a different
killer was a woman? approach on thriller scene.

Q-Did the thriller genre was A- Yeah because the scene where she was
leaning on the wall looked a bit
established?
shady, plus the music gave it a thriller feel.
Q-Would you go see the film in A- If it was free.

cinemas?
CONCLUSION

Overall I think my media product was a success because it conformed
to the some of the conventions to established that it is a thriller genre.
But it also brings something new to the table, and perhaps this could
give a new look on the whole thriller genre.
