2. All music videos are created as visual representations of aural mediums, that essentially create an
advertisement for the artist, and create a ‘trailer’ for the album. I chose to create a music video for the
song ‘Serial Killer’ by the artist Lana Del Rey. The video can also be seen as an advertising tool for both
artist and album.
By creating this video I was able to create a visual representation of my interpretation of the song, whilst
also trying to include as may conventions to the electro-pop genre as necessary I looked at a variety of
different music videos in the electropop genre and saw that each of them varied from the other. Melanie
Martinez’s music video heavily relies on the shock factor of the video the shock factor is a constant theme
that Martinez has running through her videos, as each of the songs on her album has a story to tell,
following the character ‘Crybaby’, this differs to the trilogy of music videos that Troye Sivan had released
for his ‘Blue Neighbourhood’ album. The songs ‘wils; Fools and Blue Neighbourhood all tell the story of
Sivan in a fictional childhood and love interest, and shows struggles of the same sex relationship. Each of
these videos share the concept of creating a character or scenario, that many music videos have, however
they rely on their uniqueness as the main entertainment value.
This allowed me to visually explore Henry Jenkins theory of genre ‘breaking rules and developing into
something similar, or branching off into something new. In my musici video shows our artist struggling
with her urge to kill men she falls in love with. She is villainized however the audience would definitely
show empathy as this is something she cannot control.

3. I uploaded my video to YouTube as it enables a wide audience to view it, it's also effective
in gaining audience feedback as viewers can comment their thoughts on the video.
However because i uploaded my video onto youtube I face copyright issues. To avoid this I
written a copyright disclaimer below.
Most artist's also have a Vevo channel in which they also upload music videos as well as
exclusive lyric videos, these videos that are uploaded onto Vevo are often edited to
remove any profanity and explicit content to make it more advertiser friendly. As my music
video does not contain any explicit content, I wouldn't need to worry about this. New and
upcoming artists use VEVO, this would be the ideal plat for sor my star as audiences
would be able to find her more easily on there compared to YouTube were she might get
overshadowed by other more famous artists.

4. As I started to design my ancillary texts, I looked into pre-existing electropop artists as a form of inspiration. A vast
majority of the artist's used images on the digipak and poster that don't appear in any of the music videos made for the
album. Artists like Lady Gaga, have distinguished image that appears on the digipak that has not appeared anywhere
else.
These constructed images for the digipak allow a more dramatic look to the album tend to show a different visual
representation of the artist, thento what is seen in music videos and what is head on the CD. They tend to add a dramatic
flair to the album and help to create a ‘star’

5. I used the idea of using kinetics to make the
picture give off certain ora, my idea about this
sprung from Ariana Grande's ‘My everything’
digipak cover. Arians body and hand position
makes her seem innocent and pure. I took this
idea and developed the difference of my
character in the digioak and video. I used hand
gestures to make the artist look more pure and
elevated. This helped grab audiences attention
as if was fresh and new.

6. For my poster, I wanted to elevate my
previous idea. I made the poster darker, but
kept the the coulour scheme the same. This
showed the audience a glimpse into what
the music video will be about. I kept The
location between my digipak and poster the
same allowing for a continuation and links
between them.The topography is also the
same except for the grey coloured one that
is only shown on the poster, this is due to
the fact that grey connotes mischief which
is what I wanted to imply to the audience
before the music video.

7. When it came to creating my videos. I used influences from
several different genres by mainly stuck to electropop. I was
inspired by Taylor Swifts ‘Back space’ with its vintage look
and overall feel as well classy yet psycho character. The
costumes in Taylors video were all ver vintage, but this one
black dress partially caught my attention that's why i decided
to uses a lace black top as part of the costume for the artist.
My character is seen killing men for love, which is similar to
Taylor's video were she goes crazy with the guy and starts
being more violent until he leaves and another takes his place.
One of swift's video setting is a luxurious garden area, I tried
to recreate this with choosing a park as its spacious and just
as green in color.

8. My videos narrative was mainly also
influenced by Taylor Swift ‘blank space’ as
the story wasn't far of from what my lyrics
were connoting, However I took a more
abstract narrative approach which more
shots showing what the lyrics are
insinuating. The overall feel of
retro/vintage is similar to swift's video,
with me including a classy lace top, and
lots of the colour red which is symbolic for
love but also hate/danger which is all
included in my music video.
