1. In what ways does your
media product use,
develop or challenge forms
and
conventions of real media
products?
2. Skyline
The first feature is the skyline that is used by NME
magazine. I also used this feature because it
hooks the readers attention and it also provides a
branding for the magazine and gives an insight of
the magazine.
3. Contrasting Colors
Another convention I followed
is the use of contrasting
colours. I used a contrasting
colour on the masthead which
contradicted the colour of the
background. The effect of this
is that it is eye catching and
attractive to the audience.
4. One Picture
I also challenge the
convention of having
more than one picture on
the front cover, as one
picture will bring the cover
lines out more.
5. Large Image
Another convention taken from my case
study is the use and manipulation of the
cover image. On the NME magazine the
main cover image takes up the majority
of the front cover, and I have taken this
technique into my music magazine. The
main cover image being large helps
attract the reader’s attention as well as
make the slightly more unique, as
magazines now days usually use a
number of images on the front cover and
personally I think this looks slightly
messy and unattractive.
6. In my contents page, the
simplicity that the magazine
began with prolongs. NME use a
very crowded contents page,
with once again a number of
images and writing literally
everywhere. Whereas in my
magazine, the contents page
has a very simple layout,
therefore it is more easy on the
eyes oppose to the contents
page in NME.
