Millions of British children were evacuated from cities to rural villages during World War II to escape bombing raids, traveling by train and bus with their teachers and staying with host families, though some villagers thought the evacuated city children were dirty and troublesome.

2. What Was Evacuation? Where millions of children were sent out of cities and into small villages in the country side This was because the cities were being bombed Mums and Babies were evacuated together They all would go to live with another family for a while

3. How did it happen? The children would all be sent away usually as a class They would of nearly all travelled by train then they went by buses

4. Once they got there Once they got to the town they would go to the town hall or a similar place Some of them would have had aunts and uncles or other relatives to stay with The rest that didn’t would go and stay with the local people from the town and surrounding villages

5. Living with strangers For the people that didn’t have relatives to stay with they would be staying with strangers For some people this was a bad experience This was because the villagers thought they were dirty and caused trouble
