Bonjour, Ola, Buongiorno - We visited Europe today and tasted the lovely flavours of Italy. We also learnt some folk dances from Europe and listened to Tchaikovsky. What a cultural afternoon we had. We are thoroughly enjoying our first stage of our Inquiry.

The Americas
Ola, Hola and Hello from the Americas. This is the final stop on our whirlwind tour of our continents. We have learnt about North and South America today. We found that more people live in North America and that the climate changes from the North to the South. The children ate a traditional corn cuisine from Mexico prepared by Chef Howarth. We also discovered that the habitat of many of the South American animals is being endangered by humans. This afternoon we also had some special visitors from South America - two furry little guinea pigs courtesy of Anthony. Thanks to Cassidy for providing our South American music. What a wonderful week of setting sail for our Inquiry.

There are 46 countries in Europe, with Russia being the largest and Vatican City being the smallest. The population of Europe is approximately 800 million people, around 65% of whom live in cities. Some of the most populated European cities are Moscow, London, Istanbul, Paris, and Madrid. There are about 40 major languages spoken in Europe, with several such as English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French also spoken outside of Europe in countries like the United States, Canada, Brazil, and parts of Africa.
Europe
Europe is the second smallest continent, located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans to the north and west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Black Sea to the southeast. It has over 40 countries and a population of over 739 million people. Europe has a variety of climates ranging from temperate to Mediterranean to taiga and tundra. It also has diverse geography including mountain ranges, plains, coastal areas, and river systems like the Rhine, Danube, and Volga. The economy of Europe is largely centered around the European Union and its institutions.
France
France is located in Western Europe, bordered by countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and others. It has a long history and was one of the earliest kingdoms established in Europe. Some key facts about France include that it is the largest country in the European Union by land area and population. French culture has significantly influenced many other parts of the world, seen in its language, fashion, food and beverages, architecture and more. Some of France's most famous landmarks are found in its capital city of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Louvre Museum and Arc de Triomphe.
France
France is an old country located in Western Europe. It has borders with countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Andorra. Nicolas Sarkozy was the president of France from 2007. Some cultural aspects of France include cheek kissing as a greeting, consumption of wine and medicines, and speaking French and regional languages such as Occitan. Famous landmarks in France include the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Millau Viaduct bridge. France is also known for its cuisine like crepes, cheeses and pastries, and fashion designers including Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel.

Africa is made up of 53 countries surrounded by oceans and lies along the equator, making it very hot. It has over 2,000 languages spoken across many tribes that have inhabited the continent for thousands of years. Major cities include Cairo, Pretoria, and Dar es Salaam. South Africa hosted the 2010 World Cup and has 11 official languages. Africa is known for unique animals and changing climate endangers many. Food and water scarcity are problems as deserts and famine affect the continent.
Asia
Today we explored the sights and sounds of Asia. It is the largest and most populated continent on Earth. Over 4 billion people live there. There are over 50 countries that make up Asia and China is the most populated country. We ate rice today that most of the 4 billion people eat on a daily basis. What fun! We're off to Europe tomorrow.
Australia
Australia is an island continent consisting of 6 states and 2 territories. It has a diverse population, with the original inhabitants being the Aboriginal people who speak over 150 languages. Some of Australia's major cities are Sydney, the largest city built on a harbor; Brisbane, the fastest growing city known for its beaches and theme parks; and Canberra, the capital located in the Australian Capital Territory. The interior Outback has red dirt and hot weather, and is home to iconic places like Uluru. Australia is also known for unique animals like kangaroos, wombats, and platypuses. The Aboriginal people have inhabited the land for thousands of years and have a rich cultural heritage.
