The Eucharist mass involves four main rites: the gathering, the liturgy of the Word, the liturgy of the Eucharist, and the concluding rites. During the gathering, Christians sing praise to God and the priest greets the congregation. The liturgy of the Word includes readings from scripture and a sermon to nourish souls with God's message. In the liturgy of the Eucharist, the bread and wine are blessed, broken, and received as holy communion. Finally, during the concluding rites, people are sent into the world to spread Christ's message.

Glory to God.

5. The liturgy of the Word
This major rite of the Eucharist is
about nourishing one's soul
through the Word of God. The
spoken word is proclaimed while
the people listen.

more meaningful to the
congregation.

which is a profession of
faith is recited by the people.

presider blesses them and gives
thanks.
The bread is broken and
the wine is poured.
Following the consecration, the
assembly goes forward to receive
Holy Communion.

8. The concluding rights or
Dismissal
Because the assembly have received Christ
in the Word and Holy Communion the priest
tells the people to take Christ to the world
(Wellspring, 2005). This is marked by a post
communion ritual which may include a
prayer, singing, a blessing, a word on
departure and a word of dismissal (Gribben,
1995).
