Gathering
Christians gather together for this
Eucharist mass to worship and
show their commitment to God.
1.The gathering may include various
actions which include singing God's
praise with a song or hymn.
2. The priest then greets the
congregation and invites them to
worship.
3. The priest then reads the
penitential rite asking
for God's forgiveness.
4. A prayer of praise is sung to give
Glory to God.
5. Now an opening prayer
is read.
The liturgy of the Word
This major rite of the Eucharist is
about nourishing one's soul
through the Word of God. The
spoken word is proclaimed while
the people listen.
1.The liturgy of the Word includes
readings from the Old and New
Testaments and a reading from the
Gospels.
2. A sermon is preached, making it
more meaningful to the
congregation.
3. The Nicene Creed
which is a profession of
faith is recited by the people.
The liturgy of the Eucharist
Taking the bread and wine, the
presider blesses them and gives
thanks.
The bread is broken and
the wine is poured.
Following the consecration, the
assembly goes forward to receive
Holy Communion.
The concluding rights or
Dismissal
Because the assembly have received Christ
in the Word and Holy Communion the priest
tells the people to take Christ to the world
(Wellspring, 2005). This is marked by a post
communion ritual which may include a
prayer, singing, a blessing, a word on
departure and a word of dismissal (Gribben,
1995).
