Classroom norms and rules are important for establishing appropriate student behavior and participation. Students should help develop norms and rules so they feel ownership over the classroom environment. Norms inform students how to behave towards each other and materials, while rules establish basic expectations. Rules should be clear, positive, specific and limited in number. Procedures also need to be put in place for activities like entering the room, using supplies, throwing out trash, and returning lost items. Signals help gain student attention. Class norms are the behavioural expectations or rules of the class. Class norms inform us how we are
expected to behave towards each other and towards the materials we use in school. Students who are
partners in composing class norms are more likely to experience a level of ownership, participate in
instruction, and engage in mutually respectful and cooperative relationships. In addition, students and
instructional team members jointly developing and implementing norms shifts some of the responsibility
for supporting and encouraging socially appropriate interactions from the teacher to the students.

Classroom rules are the basic expectations for the students behaviour in the classroom.
SANCTIONS:
Classroom rules are the sanctions Initiated by the Teacher with concept of the student in order to run the
classroom activities to achieve predetermined goals or objectives.

1. ENTERING THE ROOM:
• Enter quietly and politely.
• Don’t Interrupt other Students.
2. CARING FOR SUPPLIES :
• Share group supplies; take care of group supplies For Example recap marker or glue.
• Check the numbers written on supplies to make sure they belong to your group.

slip and tape the item to it. You can put the item in the Lost and Found box.

• Clean off your desk; leave out your work notebook; pick up any trash within your desk; stack your
chair; wait quietly to be dismissed.
