Happiness Thesis Statement
I read your essay about how you lost your happiness when you first came to the United States. I
read it with my eyes wide open because I could connect the feelings I had when I came to U.S. I
would like to get more details about your family. Did they feel the same as you? I think your main
point is to show how meaningful relationships give you happiness. I like your decision that finally
you learn how to blend to the society and you get your happiness back. I like the way you compared
both your life in Morocco and in the United States. I think you should add a hook to the introductory
paragraph so you get the reader's attention faster. Other than that I agree with your thesis statement
because it is what I believe that money can not buy happiness.

Essay on What is Happiness?
What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by
answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the
time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of
being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come.
In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one
professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question
"What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional
motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content...
But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of
morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as
ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme)
are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure
and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917)
Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free.
He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is
ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete
happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that
if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness,
causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to
pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain.
In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I

Descriptive Essay About Happiness
The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and
throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear, but we finally make it. We reached
the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might
suffocate and fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with
my best friend, anything can make me happy. Happiness to me is being able to have fun and enjoy
small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much
effort into achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my
lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest example of being filled with happiness
would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend.
This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina
picked me up from my house and we set off on the road. I made a special playlist to dance and
sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other
for quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy
gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and
do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk
about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face.
Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to listen to all the events in our lives is one of
the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another.
We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start
biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee
for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually,
Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon
following the trails by Fort Snelling to Minnehaha Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to

Personal Essay On Happiness And Happiness
It is human nature to want and desire certain things out of life. For the most part, people want the
same things. No one is the same as anyone else but we all share the fact that we want to make our
lives as good as we possibly can. There are many ways to achieve happiness and everything that is
wanted out of life can make you happy. Whatever a person's truest desire may be, if they obtain that
desire they obtain happiness. All that is desired falls under "What will make you happy in life?" We
long to be happy, but what gets us there? Happiness can come in a wide variety of things.
Different things make different people happy. Seeing a cute dog can make me happy for a
moment. Do we long to be happy one day at a time or are we longing to know we will never be
sad? Assume every person on the planet has had their happy moments, there is always a deterrent.
Always the next moment that can be taken in any direction and if you have experienced emotions
then it is known. People may long to be happy but. I think no one can ever be one hundred percent
happy for their whole life, but I think people can be content. There will always be moments that are
not happy moments but there will always be another moment that can bring joy. I believe you can be
happy with your life, even with those moments of other emotion. One of the main things that I want
in life is happiness. What can make me happy are many different things. I long for happiness, and in
that longing many things that have the

Definition Essay On Happiness
Everyone in life has their own perspective of happiness, everyone has their own struggles and
obstacles that they go through . Individually, happiness does not include materialistic items because
they only last for the moment. Happiness is when you are content with yourself within and do not
care about others judging you for you. People in our society often think that having the finer things
in life and changing their appearance will help them cope with the flaws inside of themselves.
Instead of being satisfied with who they are and what they already have, they tend to go above and
beyond their means as an individual. This makes it harder to become lively because people are

Persuasive Essay On Happiness
There is a common misconception on happiness, people have twisted the definition of true happiness
into a material–based feeling. People now find happiness in worldly values such as wealth,
recognition, and success. A person learns to rely on money and success as their source of happiness
rather than looking within for a more permanent solution to their sadness. The answer to a sad life is
not money, recognition or success, when in reality, the answer is to and content with life. Trusting
happiness is present removes any ideas believing "happiness" brought on from economic and
personal success. A person should not have to develop greedy values in order to achieve a strong
sense of happiness. Happiness is freely given, but people are searching for it in the wrong places;
happiness is not a result of financial wellness or success, it is the result of a satisfying view on
existence.
For generations, wealth has signified power and happiness. If a person is wealthy, he or she has
power and therefore as everything; if a person has everything, he or she is ultimately "happy."
Increased wealth supposedly prompts a surge in happiness. Power and financial prosperity blur
worry, caused by troubles, that a person faces by making the troubles seem minute and less
daunting. The troubles are no longer troubling once money and success cover them up. New
purchases and awards help cover up these worries, allowing the person to feel free and "happy" to
enjoy life. Worries, however, do not stay

True Happiness Essay
According to Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, happiness is the ultimate end of humanity, as
everything humans do is done in order to obtain it, and it is gained via the achievement of full
excellence of the soul. Happiness is the greatest of all human good, because, as an end, it is an end
unto itself, meaning that humans do not use it as a means to any other end. It is not conditional
happiness that Aristotle lauds, but rather something that is more akin to the modern definition of
joy. The practice of virtue, both intellectual and moral, is required to condition the soul into the state
of ultimate excellence, and thus to obtain happiness. This is because the excellent soul is governed
completely by its rational segment, as opposed to...show more content...
Happiness, because it is not only "an end in itself," but also the end at which all human actions are
ultimately aimed, is the highest human good, and therefore the ultimate function of man (Ostwald
15). However, Happiness as portrayed by Aristotle is quite different from the modern understanding
of happiness.
As understood by Aristotle, happiness is not the temporal feeling of pleasure brought on by
agreeable conditions. Happiness, as the greatest human good, is the fulfillment of all that humans
are meant to be. It is the end result of the cultivation of human excellence. Happiness does not
depend on good conditions, nor is it temporal, but it is a state of being and character achieved
over the course of a complete life for, as Aristotle says, "One swallow does not make a spring"
(Ostwald 17). Furthermore, because Happiness is the greatest of human goods, and is the ultimate
purpose of man, it is clear that any human may achieve happiness, so long as they cultivate it
correctly and with discipline. With any function or good, one must practice certain skills in order to
achieve excellence in that good, and to achieve the greatest good, happiness, one must cultivate
virtue. Those that are musically inclined become master musicians by practicing either the playing
of their instruments if they are performers, or by studying music theory if they are composers. The

How to Achieve Happiness Essay
"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." –– Abraham Lincoln
According to Cambridge's Online Dictionary, happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by
contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. There are a number of attributes that correlate with
happiness: relationships and social interaction, extroversion, marital status, employment, health,
democratic freedom, optimism, religious involvement, income, and proximity to other happy people.
Because the concept of happiness is complex and hard to measure, many people believe that
happiness is mysterious, elusive, and totally out of their control. This is not true. Actually, happiness
is a choice. Each person can decide whether to be happy or not....show more content...
However, some people who live difficult lives can remain happy, while people who have
everything they need are unhappy. Happiness is determined by how we respond to external
stimulus. We can choose our own response no matter what the stimulus is. For the same half cup of
water, an optimist can see it half full; on the contrary, a pessimist may see it as half empty.
Also, we can get happiness from doing some simple things, such as taking a relaxing bath,
listening to music, going for a walk, reading a favorite book, writing a letter to a friend, making a
great meal for the family, or capturing a glorious sunset. Although these things may seem
minuscule and irrelevant, they can help to create a delightful atmosphere, release the stress, and
convert negative emotions into happiness. In a word, these activities make difference on our
happiness level. Granted, there are circumstances that rob us of our happiness that we don't have
as much choice over, such as war, death, health problems, and natural disasters, but we are not
completely helpless even in these circumstances. We have a choice to go on with life and live it
the best we can. We can still set goals and dream dreams. We can still keep happy by looking good
future. Last October, because of bad economic situation, I lost my job. It's miserable living on

Happiness Essay (revision)
When looking upon this question, I found I could not answer the question myself; and therefore,
researched the definition of happiness. " Happiness is thought of as the good life, freedom from
suffering, flourishing, well–being, joy, prosperity, and pleasure" (WWW.PBS.org.) I came to the
conclusion that to be able to achieve happiness, risks are a factor that is almost always present within
the achievement. Granted, there are times where happiness can come from small, minute things; but
looking at happiness on a grand scale, risks are included always except for the small majority which
I just mentioned. For example, looking into another definition, " An experience

The one thing every living being has in common with each other is that, everyone is in search of
happiness. The definition of happiness varies according to the needs of each person. For the same
person too, happiness or what they consider to be bliss varies with each moment in time. Every
deed we do in this world is with the intent of gaining the perfect state of perpetual happiness. Some
chase money in the hopes that immense wealth will confer upon them unlimited bliss. We surround
ourselves with luxurious items for the same reason. Others focus on their family and friends for,
what more can a person want than being surrounded by loved ones ? And then, there are those

What Is Unhappiness Essay
Reasons of unhappiness
Everyone wants to be happy. And it has been one of the biggest conundrums of human history, the
pursuit of happiness. How can we be happy? And why do we always have to be happy? Is this
happiness worth it? This bliss, this mirth. Why do we need it? Did it sneak into our lives or did
we seek it out and embrace it? People nowadays spend all of their money into things they believe
will make them happy, and they still are "unhappy". Objectively, we can say that there are no clear
reasons for unhappiness, most of the time, unhappiness is a choice, and people don't realize it. They
compare their happiness to other people, they put their happiness in objects rather than experiences,
they worry too much, and they feel (or make themselves feel) socially excluded....show more

Unhappy people check online very often other people's online lives. In an article from the New
York Post, we have the story of Kiersten Rickenbach Cerveny. She was a woman who looked
happy on her Facebook page, she made other people jealous of her life, she always posted pictures
of her vacations, her kids, and she looked like she had a perfect life. However, her real life was
apparently not as nice as her Facebook profile would indicate, because she was found dead in an
apartment and she was diagnosed of cocaine overdose. So we can understand here that we have
arrived to a point where we want to show other people that we are happy, that happiness has
become a standard in our everyday life, and so we are willing to do everything just so we can feel
good about ourselves. And that is one main reason to feel unhappy, because we see our neighbor
always showing a good face, and we want to feel the same way as him but we might not know
everything he's going through, the problem he is facing at work or at home, so maybe he's not that
happy, or maybe he went through a lot to be happy now. Thething is, nowadays we see happiness as
something that is simple, you're just happy and that's it, and

Happiness And Happiness
According to the Bible "... the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self–control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22–23)"
Many have grown up listening to songs that teach the fruit of the spirit. For those who do not know
this reference It is the attitude people are supposed to hold themselves to. Most people assume that
Joy is the same as happiness, but people do not get the option to be happy. This is one of many
reasons that Joy is not correlated to Happiness. You do not need to be happy to be joyful because
Joy is a mindset, it is not based on emotions, and is permanent and internal.
While, many of us think of Joy as happiness, happiness is a not a mindset. Joy is a choice, and a
mindset. Joy is an attitude and has to be wanted. An example of this is mentioned in "Choose Joy"
by Kay Warren, where she states that a person experiences as much joy as they choose to. In the
situations people experience in their lives, they can either choose to have joy in those times, and be
thankful and rejoice in the position they are put in, or have a mindset that they won't get through
the hard, and focus on the negatives in life instead. Joy is a mindset of positivity and optimism.
Joseph Campbell also addresses the mindset of Joy "We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we
can choose to live in joy." People have the choice to choose joy. Happiness; however, is something
people can not choose to be,

Simply Happy By Laozi Definition Of Happiness
Although the definition of happiness has been changed and rearranged for as long as humans have
existed, thousands upon thousands of years, some philosophers want a hard definition of it. The
term happiness signifies something different depending on whom you ask. The question of "What is
happiness?" has been theorized and discussed by many philosophers throughout the years, and many
have their own labyrinthine conclusion that may put off the average person who just has a
subconscious thought of what is happiness and why we need it and/or experience it. A few theories
on happiness have emerged from people who are educated in this discussion like Matt
Killingsworth, Carl HonorГ©, Graham Hill, Dan Gilbert, and David Steindl–Rast. All who were
featured in "Simply Happy," a segment on the "TED Radio Hour" from 2014 and they give a more
modern approach on being happy throughout life and share other theories. The Tao Te Chingby
Laozi was written around the sixth century BCE and is one of the classic texts in China which
separates yourself from your life to achieve happiness and a more recent theory of happiness from
the past teachings of the Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness which strictly distincts happiness from
desire which are often thought of as related in today's modern society. The "TED Radio Hour"
show discusses if there is a secret to achieving happiness but, most of the featured speakers agree
on a simile to describe happiness. The secret to happiness is like the secret of dieting; there is no
true secret. The speakers from the radio show talked about is that wealthiness may only bring
temporary happiness, or happiness without meaning, which goes hand in hand with a point from
Laozi who states, "If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich." (verse 75). This
statement alludes to the thought that wealth doesn't automatically bring happiness and you can
only "be rich" from life experiences. This idea of "being rich," is similar to Graham Hill's factoring
wealth into happiness because he gained 30 million dollars in his late 20's, so he bought many
items. He bought things he may have thought were necessities at the time like a big house, nice cars,
and gadgets. He then noticed he wasn't

Essay On Happiness And Success
Although happiness is not merely associated with success, truly successful individuals first find
happiness and passion for their life and career. Being successful does not necessarily mean that one
has saved a lot of money or lives a luxurious life. It may mean that one has talented children, good
spouse, attained high academic performance, has promising career, for example. The fact that success
brings satisfaction in life makes a person feel happier because he/she can experience joy from many
things that come with personal fulfillment. Although some people may argue that success does not
provide happiness, various factors have shown that successful people are also the happiest.
Having succeeded in various aspects in life means that one...show more content...
Such people will always remain happy because they enjoy what they learn to improve what they
have achieved.
Happiness comes when one has attained what he/she wants to attain. People who fail to achieve
their desired results even after struggling too much end up being depressed or developing other
symptoms that cannot guarantee them happiness. Attaining success gives a person good moods
even during times of challenges. If, for example, one has succeeded to have a promising job, that
person will keep feeling happy even during the times of setbacks because he/she knows that his
present achievements can help to overcome the obstacles that arise in his/her life.
Successful people are also the happiest because they don't expect perfection. In most cases,
expecting flawlessness leads to disappointment especially if the desired outcome does not go
according to one's expectations. Successful people are always upbeat because they know that some
situations may make some things not to work according to their wishes. Unsuccessful people will
always press things to happen according to their expectations. If they fail to attain what they desire,
they get dissatisfaction which leads to lack of happiness.
Being successful means one is able to overcome factors which prevent happiness. If, for example,
one has worked hard in school to attain best grades, that person will have nothing to worry about
because he/she

What is happiness? Happiness is something that can have many definitions depending on the
person. To me, happiness is very simple. In my life, it could be defined as getting to spend as much
time with the people I love most. Being able to take them to the beach and play until we are so tired
we can't see straight. Another example of happiness for me is that I am able to look back on past
memories and laugh and smile about them. We learned lots of lessons and made plenty of mistakes

According to the Dictionary, "happiness is the mental or emotional state of well being which can be

happiness is what it's scientifically defined as, but happiness is much more than that. Happiness
could be a certain sound, a smell, even feeling a certain piece of clothing or a thick warm blanket.
People spend hours even years trying to work for what they think is happiness. They work for hours
to get large amounts of money, but they never find the happiness their looking for. That's because
happiness isn't materialistic, happiness isn't something you can buy with expensive items. Even

Knowing they're happy for whatever reason is where i find my happiness. The feeling of
happiness starts off with just a simple look at something or even someone you love. Having the
feeling of happiness in your heart that slowly creeps up until you're smiling for what seems like
ages. True happiness doesn't last for seconds or even minutes, it feels as though it lasts a life time.
People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For
instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or
simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause
you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self
appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college
you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to
think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't
even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly
happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it's hard to find it's not all that
difficult. What's hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what
people truly look for. Over all happiness isn't about being rich or having the most expensive items

Mahatma Gandhi one defined happiness as "when what you think, what you say, and what you do

self–help gurus, or any other academic source, I tend to think this is a great summation of the
definition of happiness. Gandhi doesn't say anything about how these things make you feel, rather
looks at it from a point of view of harmony between thoughts, expressions, and actions. Since one
single accepted definition of happiness doesn't seem to exist, and happiness is different for
everyone, this begs the question; how can you increase your own personal level of happiness? Since

Gratification comes from any even that engages us fully. Seligman claims that "...individuals may
find gratification in participating in a great conversation, fixing a bike, reading a good book...or

"doing something that engages or enhances our strengths is a gratification, whether it's swimming,
welding, or listening to a friend in need." (Senior 428) It is interesting to note that engagement
activities aimed at increasing happiness are not always enjoyable in and of themselves. Seligman
notes that "consider, for example, the gratification that comes from training for an endurance even
such as a marathon. At any given point during the grueling event, a runner may be discouraged or
exhausted or even in physical pain; however, they may describe the overall experience as intensely
gratifying." (Seligman, Parks, and Steen 419) From this we see that gratification may help enhance
our overall happiness, not through the activity itself, but from the feeling of accomplishment or
well–being we experience as the end result. The third route to increasing happiness comes through
meaning which is comprised mainly of the four basic values of faith, family, community, and work.

Essays On Happiness

  • 1. Happiness Thesis Statement I read your essay about how you lost your happiness when you first came to the United States. I read it with my eyes wide open because I could connect the feelings I had when I came to U.S. I would like to get more details about your family. Did they feel the same as you? I think your main point is to show how meaningful relationships give you happiness. I like your decision that finally you learn how to blend to the society and you get your happiness back. I like the way you compared both your life in Morocco and in the United States. I think you should add a hook to the introductory paragraph so you get the reader's attention faster. Other than that I agree with your thesis statement because it is what I believe that money can not buy happiness. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on What is Happiness? What is happiness? People have agonized over this question for centuries. Let me start this essay by answering a somewhat easier question: what isn't happiness? Happiness is NOT feeling good all the time. Happiness is a combination of human emotions and states of mind. Exploring this state of being has consumed the philosophical minds of the ages and will continue to do so for ages to come. In an unofficial poll of students at State University, I found that of the fifty–eight students and one professor, males and females of several ethnic backgrounds and age groups, that I asked the question "What is happiness to you?", all of them had very different physical, intellectual, or emotional motivator for their happiness. Only the...show more content... But these supplementary explanations do not affect the theory of life on which this theory of morality is grounded namely, that pleasure, and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as ends; and that all desirable things (which are as numerous in the utilitarian as in any other scheme) are desirable either for the pleasure inherent in themselves, or as means to the promotion of pleasure and the prevention of pain. (Pojman 917) Mill seems to think that happiness comes from the desire to be completely pain–free. He says that happiness comes from selfishly fulfilled desires. The desire to attain only pleasure is ludicrous; for a person to achieve a completely pain–free existence is impossible. To gain complete happiness would leave them with no motivation to achieve anything else. Human nature is such that if a person achieved pure happiness, that person would then become dissatisfied with that happiness, causing them to, once again, be unhappy. A person will always experience something contrary to pleasure, leaving them with some type of pain. In my opinion, people seem to be happy for many different reasons at different times in their lives. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Happiness The wind is ripping at our hair, both of us are panting to get some air into our lungs and throughout our bodies. The strain is almost too much to bear, but we finally make it. We reached the top of the hill and I won against my friend in our bike race through the city. Feeling like I might suffocate and fall off my bike may not seem like something that can make me happy, but if it's with my best friend, anything can make me happy. Happiness to me is being able to have fun and enjoy small and big moments with the people you love. It should come easily without having to put much effort into achieving it. Happiness should not be something I must chase, but it should float onto my lap while I'm sitting with my feet kicked up. The greatest example of being filled with happiness would be the day I rode through the cities with my most beloved friend. This happiness filled drive through the cities started in the car. On a warm June morning, Sabrina picked me up from my house and we set off on the road. I made a special playlist to dance and sing our lungs out the full hour and a half drive up to the twin cities. We had not seen each other for quite some time so this drive was especially important to catch up on our lives and some juicy gossip. This is one of my favorite things to do with Sabrina because even when all we do is sit and do nothing, I find that I enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Sitting there listening to my friend talk about how annoying a classmate is, or how she tried a new food just puts a smile on my face. Singing until we're out of breath and taking the time to listen to all the events in our lives is one of the things I loved to do and I valued all the things we shared with one another. We then began to transition our car ride into a bike ride. Before arriving at Fort Snelling to start biking, we decided to stop by Caribou Coffee for a quick snack. We drove right past Caribou Coffee for two to three miles before we realized the GPS was screaming at us to make a U–turn. Eventually, Sabrina and I got our coffees and sat down to talk about where we'd like to bike. We decided upon following the trails by Fort Snelling to Minnehaha Falls. After downing our drinks, and driving to Fort Snelling, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Essay On Happiness And Happiness It is human nature to want and desire certain things out of life. For the most part, people want the same things. No one is the same as anyone else but we all share the fact that we want to make our lives as good as we possibly can. There are many ways to achieve happiness and everything that is wanted out of life can make you happy. Whatever a person's truest desire may be, if they obtain that desire they obtain happiness. All that is desired falls under "What will make you happy in life?" We long to be happy, but what gets us there? Happiness can come in a wide variety of things. Different things make different people happy. Seeing a cute dog can make me happy for a moment. Do we long to be happy one day at a time or are we longing to know we will never be sad? Assume every person on the planet has had their happy moments, there is always a deterrent. Always the next moment that can be taken in any direction and if you have experienced emotions then it is known. People may long to be happy but. I think no one can ever be one hundred percent happy for their whole life, but I think people can be content. There will always be moments that are not happy moments but there will always be another moment that can bring joy. I believe you can be happy with your life, even with those moments of other emotion. One of the main things that I want in life is happiness. What can make me happy are many different things. I long for happiness, and in that longing many things that have the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Definition Essay On Happiness Everyone in life has their own perspective of happiness, everyone has their own struggles and obstacles that they go through . Individually, happiness does not include materialistic items because they only last for the moment. Happiness is when you are content with yourself within and do not care about others judging you for you. People in our society often think that having the finer things in life and changing their appearance will help them cope with the flaws inside of themselves. Instead of being satisfied with who they are and what they already have, they tend to go above and beyond their means as an individual. This makes it harder to become lively because people are consistently trying to find happiness outside of themselves when in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Happiness There is a common misconception on happiness, people have twisted the definition of true happiness into a material–based feeling. People now find happiness in worldly values such as wealth, recognition, and success. A person learns to rely on money and success as their source of happiness rather than looking within for a more permanent solution to their sadness. The answer to a sad life is not money, recognition or success, when in reality, the answer is to and content with life. Trusting happiness is present removes any ideas believing "happiness" brought on from economic and personal success. A person should not have to develop greedy values in order to achieve a strong sense of happiness. Happiness is freely given, but people are searching for it in the wrong places; happiness is not a result of financial wellness or success, it is the result of a satisfying view on existence. For generations, wealth has signified power and happiness. If a person is wealthy, he or she has power and therefore as everything; if a person has everything, he or she is ultimately "happy." Increased wealth supposedly prompts a surge in happiness. Power and financial prosperity blur worry, caused by troubles, that a person faces by making the troubles seem minute and less daunting. The troubles are no longer troubling once money and success cover them up. New purchases and awards help cover up these worries, allowing the person to feel free and "happy" to enjoy life. Worries, however, do not stay Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. True Happiness Essay According to Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, happiness is the ultimate end of humanity, as everything humans do is done in order to obtain it, and it is gained via the achievement of full excellence of the soul. Happiness is the greatest of all human good, because, as an end, it is an end unto itself, meaning that humans do not use it as a means to any other end. It is not conditional happiness that Aristotle lauds, but rather something that is more akin to the modern definition of joy. The practice of virtue, both intellectual and moral, is required to condition the soul into the state of ultimate excellence, and thus to obtain happiness. This is because the excellent soul is governed completely by its rational segment, as opposed to...show more content... Happiness, because it is not only "an end in itself," but also the end at which all human actions are ultimately aimed, is the highest human good, and therefore the ultimate function of man (Ostwald 15). However, Happiness as portrayed by Aristotle is quite different from the modern understanding of happiness. As understood by Aristotle, happiness is not the temporal feeling of pleasure brought on by agreeable conditions. Happiness, as the greatest human good, is the fulfillment of all that humans are meant to be. It is the end result of the cultivation of human excellence. Happiness does not depend on good conditions, nor is it temporal, but it is a state of being and character achieved over the course of a complete life for, as Aristotle says, "One swallow does not make a spring" (Ostwald 17). Furthermore, because Happiness is the greatest of human goods, and is the ultimate purpose of man, it is clear that any human may achieve happiness, so long as they cultivate it correctly and with discipline. With any function or good, one must practice certain skills in order to achieve excellence in that good, and to achieve the greatest good, happiness, one must cultivate virtue. Those that are musically inclined become master musicians by practicing either the playing of their instruments if they are performers, or by studying music theory if they are composers. • 8. How to Achieve Happiness Essay "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." –– Abraham Lincoln According to Cambridge's Online Dictionary, happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. There are a number of attributes that correlate with happiness: relationships and social interaction, extroversion, marital status, employment, health, democratic freedom, optimism, religious involvement, income, and proximity to other happy people. Because the concept of happiness is complex and hard to measure, many people believe that happiness is mysterious, elusive, and totally out of their control. This is not true. Actually, happiness is a choice. Each person can decide whether to be happy or not....show more content... However, some people who live difficult lives can remain happy, while people who have everything they need are unhappy. Happiness is determined by how we respond to external stimulus. We can choose our own response no matter what the stimulus is. For the same half cup of water, an optimist can see it half full; on the contrary, a pessimist may see it as half empty. Also, we can get happiness from doing some simple things, such as taking a relaxing bath, listening to music, going for a walk, reading a favorite book, writing a letter to a friend, making a great meal for the family, or capturing a glorious sunset. Although these things may seem minuscule and irrelevant, they can help to create a delightful atmosphere, release the stress, and convert negative emotions into happiness. In a word, these activities make difference on our happiness level. Granted, there are circumstances that rob us of our happiness that we don't have as much choice over, such as war, death, health problems, and natural disasters, but we are not completely helpless even in these circumstances. We have a choice to go on with life and live it the best we can. We can still set goals and dream dreams. We can still keep happy by looking good future. • 9. Definition Essay On Happiness Izzy SummersSeptember 4thFifth Block, Gold. Happiness Essay (revision) When looking upon this question, I found I could not answer the question myself; and therefore, researched the definition of happiness. " Happiness is thought of as the good life, freedom from suffering, flourishing, well–being, joy, prosperity, and pleasure" (WWW.PBS.org.) I came to the conclusion that to be able to achieve happiness, risks are a factor that is almost always present within the achievement. Granted, there are times where happiness can come from small, minute things; but looking at happiness on a grand scale, risks are included always except for the small majority which I just mentioned. For example, looking into another definition, " An experience Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The definition of happiness varies according to the needs of each person. For the same person too, happiness or what they consider to be bliss varies with each moment in time. Every deed we do in this world is with the intent of gaining the perfect state of perpetual happiness. Some chase money in the hopes that immense wealth will confer upon them unlimited bliss. We surround ourselves with luxurious items for the same reason. Others focus on their family and friends for, what more can a person want than being surrounded by loved ones ? • 11. What Is Unhappiness Essay Reasons of unhappiness Everyone wants to be happy. And it has been one of the biggest conundrums of human history, the pursuit of happiness. How can we be happy? And why do we always have to be happy? Is this happiness worth it? This bliss, this mirth. Why do we need it? Did it sneak into our lives or did we seek it out and embrace it? People nowadays spend all of their money into things they believe will make them happy, and they still are "unhappy". Objectively, we can say that there are no clear reasons for unhappiness, most of the time, unhappiness is a choice, and people don't realize it. They compare their happiness to other people, they put their happiness in objects rather than experiences, they worry too much, and they feel (or make themselves feel) socially excluded....show more content... Unhappy people check online very often other people's online lives. In an article from the New York Post, we have the story of Kiersten Rickenbach Cerveny. She was a woman who looked happy on her Facebook page, she made other people jealous of her life, she always posted pictures of her vacations, her kids, and she looked like she had a perfect life. However, her real life was apparently not as nice as her Facebook profile would indicate, because she was found dead in an apartment and she was diagnosed of cocaine overdose. So we can understand here that we have arrived to a point where we want to show other people that we are happy, that happiness has become a standard in our everyday life, and so we are willing to do everything just so we can feel good about ourselves. And that is one main reason to feel unhappy, because we see our neighbor always showing a good face, and we want to feel the same way as him but we might not know everything he's going through, the problem he is facing at work or at home, so maybe he's not that happy, or maybe he went through a lot to be happy now. Thething is, nowadays we see happiness as something that is simple, you're just happy and that's it, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Happiness And Happiness According to the Bible "... the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self–control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22–23)" Many have grown up listening to songs that teach the fruit of the spirit. For those who do not know this reference It is the attitude people are supposed to hold themselves to. Most people assume that Joy is the same as happiness, but people do not get the option to be happy. This is one of many reasons that Joy is not correlated to Happiness. You do not need to be happy to be joyful because Joy is a mindset, it is not based on emotions, and is permanent and internal. While, many of us think of Joy as happiness, happiness is a not a mindset. Joy is a choice, and a mindset. Joy is an attitude and has to be wanted. An example of this is mentioned in "Choose Joy" by Kay Warren, where she states that a person experiences as much joy as they choose to. In the situations people experience in their lives, they can either choose to have joy in those times, and be thankful and rejoice in the position they are put in, or have a mindset that they won't get through the hard, and focus on the negatives in life instead. Joy is a mindset of positivity and optimism. Joseph Campbell also addresses the mindset of Joy "We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy." People have the choice to choose joy. Happiness; however, is something people can not choose to be, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Simply Happy By Laozi Definition Of Happiness Although the definition of happiness has been changed and rearranged for as long as humans have existed, thousands upon thousands of years, some philosophers want a hard definition of it. The term happiness signifies something different depending on whom you ask. The question of "What is happiness?" has been theorized and discussed by many philosophers throughout the years, and many have their own labyrinthine conclusion that may put off the average person who just has a subconscious thought of what is happiness and why we need it and/or experience it. A few theories on happiness have emerged from people who are educated in this discussion like Matt Killingsworth, Carl HonorГ©, Graham Hill, Dan Gilbert, and David Steindl–Rast. All who were featured in "Simply Happy," a segment on the "TED Radio Hour" from 2014 and they give a more modern approach on being happy throughout life and share other theories. The Tao Te Chingby Laozi was written around the sixth century BCE and is one of the classic texts in China which separates yourself from your life to achieve happiness and a more recent theory of happiness from the past teachings of the Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness which strictly distincts happiness from desire which are often thought of as related in today's modern society. The "TED Radio Hour" show discusses if there is a secret to achieving happiness but, most of the featured speakers agree on a simile to describe happiness. The secret to happiness is like the secret of dieting; there is no true secret. The speakers from the radio show talked about is that wealthiness may only bring temporary happiness, or happiness without meaning, which goes hand in hand with a point from Laozi who states, "If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich." (verse 75). This statement alludes to the thought that wealth doesn't automatically bring happiness and you can only "be rich" from life experiences. This idea of "being rich," is similar to Graham Hill's factoring wealth into happiness because he gained 30 million dollars in his late 20's, so he bought many items. He bought things he may have thought were necessities at the time like a big house, nice cars, and gadgets. He then noticed he wasn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay On Happiness And Success Although happiness is not merely associated with success, truly successful individuals first find happiness and passion for their life and career. Being successful does not necessarily mean that one has saved a lot of money or lives a luxurious life. It may mean that one has talented children, good spouse, attained high academic performance, has promising career, for example. The fact that success brings satisfaction in life makes a person feel happier because he/she can experience joy from many things that come with personal fulfillment. Although some people may argue that success does not provide happiness, various factors have shown that successful people are also the happiest. Having succeeded in various aspects in life means that one...show more content... Such people will always remain happy because they enjoy what they learn to improve what they have achieved. Happiness comes when one has attained what he/she wants to attain. People who fail to achieve their desired results even after struggling too much end up being depressed or developing other symptoms that cannot guarantee them happiness. Attaining success gives a person good moods even during times of challenges. If, for example, one has succeeded to have a promising job, that person will keep feeling happy even during the times of setbacks because he/she knows that his present achievements can help to overcome the obstacles that arise in his/her life. Successful people are also the happiest because they don't expect perfection. In most cases, expecting flawlessness leads to disappointment especially if the desired outcome does not go according to one's expectations. Successful people are always upbeat because they know that some situations may make some things not to work according to their wishes. Unsuccessful people will always press things to happen according to their expectations. If they fail to attain what they desire, they get dissatisfaction which leads to lack of happiness. Being successful means one is able to overcome factors which prevent happiness. If, for example, one has worked hard in school to attain best grades, that person will have nothing to worry about because he/she Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Definition Essay: What Is Happiness? What is happiness? Happiness is something that can have many definitions depending on the person. To me, happiness is very simple. In my life, it could be defined as getting to spend as much time with the people I love most. Being able to take them to the beach and play until we are so tired we can't see straight. Another example of happiness for me is that I am able to look back on past memories and laugh and smile about them. We learned lots of lessons and made plenty of mistakes in the process, but we are better for them. I am also happy that there is something called Pinterest. We can become significantly happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it's hard to find it's not all that difficult. What's hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what people truly look for. Barring any better definition of happiness from either positive psychologists, self–help gurus, or any other academic source, I tend to think this is a great summation of the definition of happiness. Gandhi doesn't say anything about how these things make you feel, rather looks at it from a point of view of harmony between thoughts, expressions, and actions. Since one single accepted definition of happiness doesn't seem to exist, and happiness is different for everyone, this begs the question; how can you increase your own personal level of happiness? Seligman claims that "...individuals may find gratification in participating in a great conversation, fixing a bike, reading a good book...or accomplishing a difficult task at work." (Seligman, Parks, and Steen 419) Senior also states that "doing something that engages or enhances our strengths is a gratification, whether it's swimming, welding, or listening to a friend in need." (Seligman, Parks, and Steen 419) From this we see that gratification may help enhance our overall happiness, not through the activity itself, but from the feeling of accomplishment or well–being we experience as the end result. The third route to increasing happiness comes through meaning which is comprised mainly of the four basic values of faith, family, community, and work.
