How To Write A Short Story Of Lincoln s Wife
While residing in New Salem, Lincoln became acquainted with Ann Rutledge. Apparently he was
fond of her, and certainly he grieved with the entire community at her untimely death, in 1835, at
the age of 22. Afterward, stories were told of a grand romance between Lincoln and Rutledge, but
these stories are not supported by sound historical evidence. A year after the deathof Rutledge,
Lincoln carried on a halfhearted courtship with Mary Owens, who eventually concluded that
Lincoln was deficient in those little links which make up the chain of womans happiness. She
turned down his proposal.
So far as can be known, the first and only real love of Lincoln s life was Mary Todd. High spirited,
quick witted, and well educated, Todd came from a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like most married couples, the Lincolns also had their domestic quarrels, which sometimes
were hectic but which undoubtedly were exaggerated by contemporary gossips. She suffered
from recurring headaches, fits of temper, and a sense of insecurity and loneliness that was
intensified by her husband s long absences on the lawyer s circuit. After his election to the
presidency, she was afflicted by the death of her son Willie, by the ironies of a war that made
enemies of Kentucky relatives and friends, and by the unfair public criticisms of her as mistress
of the White House. She developed an obsessive need to spend money, and she ran up
embarrassing bills. She also staged some painful scenes of wifely jealousy. At last, in 1875, she
was officially declared insane, though by that time she had undergone the further shock of seeing
her husband murdered at her side. During their earlier married life, she unquestionably encouraged
her husband and served as a prod to his own ambition. During their later years together, she probably
strengthened and tested his innate qualities of tolerance and

Stigma Of Ex-Convicts
Stigma is a point of disgrace that breaks a person apart from normal people. When a person is
labelled by their past karma they are seen as a part of a stereotyped group. One group of people I
think deserves better understanding is the ex convicts . These people struggle under their life
long stigma that comes with the label of ex convict . In reality ex prisoners have paid their debts
for their wrongdoing and have been considered for their re entry in society. Ex prisoners should be
allowed all human rights, including the right to vote and work. It is very unfortunate that it does
not happen in our community. The person who is willing to change his all life around, is not
accepted by community as before. They get denied for essential resources

Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay
George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most
effectual way to enslave them If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S?
Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776.
Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop
criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case.
Outlawing guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime.
According to Wikipedia, a firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or
more projectiles often driven by the action of an explosive force. The first firearms were invented in

Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns,
people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than
other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault
rifle when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving
everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm.
Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns
(capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long
as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have
banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and
aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some
cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low
capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over
the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew
Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet s influence an
argument that got out of hand can be seen as an all out battle. The Second

Pride In The Scarlet Ibis Literary Analysis
What is pride, is it a good thing? Pride is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from
one s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from
qualities or possessions, that are widely admired. According to Paul Bryant, If you believe in
yourself and have dedication and prideand high, but so are the rewards, which means pride is a
good thing. According to C.S. Lewis Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of
having more of it than the next man... It is the comparison that makes you provide the pleasure of
being above the rest. Once the element of competition is gone, pride is gone, which means, pride

For example, Douglas MAcArthur s pride was huge because he won almost every battle and has
been awarded many medals too. He oversaw the occupation of Japan and lead the United Nation
in the Korean War until he was removed from command. McArthur s pride wanted to take over
Japan and took the wrong turn; he lost many soldiers trying to do so. McArthurs pride caused
not only his downfall, but the death of many American soldiers during the war. One example
from my life is that my friend got very nice and new headphones and I wanted to try it out, then
all the sudden it fell and broke when no one was watching. My pride wanted to show off the
expensive headphone. My downfall was breaking it and I had to give my friend my nice
headphones and some money to replace it. Another event is when my aunt trying out for the
soccer team in UCLA. Another person trying out for the team broke four of the best soccer
players ankles including my aunt so they wouldn t be on the team and so she could. The coach
later found out and kick her out of the team and tryouts. It is a good example of the theme because
she thought she can be on the team by making the others players invalid. She was so happy when
my aunt and the three others girls couldn t play on the team; she thought she was going to make it

Redemption In Mitch Albom s For One More Day
Redemption is a life makeover; it empowers one to take this rare opportunity to become
productive and constructive in order to prove his or her self worth. At times, it also serves as an
antidote to cure one s guilt. In Mitch Albom s For One More Day, Charley is granted that
opportunity, and he chooses to spend a day with his deceased mother, who he neglected when she
was still alive. He wants to express his gratitude to his mother for her kindness and unconditional
love. Furthermore, he intends to do something to absolve himself of guilt. Through examining the
conflicts and symbolism, Albom emphasizes that one must redeem oneself if given that chance.
Ultimately, one is able to live without regrets.
The conflicts of Charley suggest that he struggles to cope with his low self esteem; however, he
manages to retain his dignity through redemption. Redemption is the act to take advantage of a
lost opportunity. In the beginning of the story, Charley is facing a crisis in his life. He loses his
job, and his daughter shuns him due to his poor judgments that lead to his broken marriage. Out
of despair, he wants to end his life by driving his car recklessly. In the nick of time, he says to
himself, I had failed to kill myself. How pathetic is that? I headed toward my old house,
determined to finish the job (Albom 25) . Miraculously, he has gotten out of the crash unscaved.
His life is a mess and he can t even do anything. However, he redeems himself by walking all the

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights
movement. Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other
power struggles among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep
the musical lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off
the 1988 comedy film by John Watersalso named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil
Rights movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a
local television dancing show, The Corny Collins Show, but her mother Edna won t let her
follow her dreams of being famous. Edna thinks she will get hurt because she doesn t look like
the perfect girl they typically allow on the show, but rather a plus sized version of them.
Regardless of her weight, Tracy s dance moves get her on the show where she meets her crush,
Link. With plump Tracy on the show and new changes in the air, the theme of equality reoccurs as
Tracy fights to make the show integrated, causing Negro Day on the show to be an everyday
occurrence. Along with its camp aesthetic, the comedy is full of slapstick humor and parabasis

Analysis Of The Prologue Of The Canterbury Tales
Bhakta, Karan
English IV, Sixth Hour
Mr. Adcock
8 December 2015
The Religious Vows In The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer has some
religious characters who break the vows they pledge for, to get a place in the Church. Many
characters in the story seem to have an awkward characteristic that the writer did not notice. Why
do the religious characters break the vow? How do they break it? For example, the monk was a
primary part of the church, but as you keep reading, the characters start to change in ways you
could never imagine. Some character do not interact with each other depending upon their social
class level. The vows that the religious characters break are the Vow of Poverty, the Vow of
Chastity, the Vow of Obedience, and the Vow of Stability. The vow that is probably the most
frequently broken is the Vow of Poverty. According to the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales
,
Chaucer says; I saw his sleeves were garnished at the hand/ With fine grey fur, the finest in the
land. / And on his hood, to fasten it at his chin/ He had a wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin
(197 200). As a religious figure, the monk probably should not be expensively dressed in fine fur
or gold jewelry. He is also showing others that he is rich with all this jewelry. Later Chaucer says,
He did not rate that text at a plucked hen/ Which says that hunters are not holy men (181 182). He
ignored the rules of the monk and acted on his. Also he is

The Importance Of Becoming A Doctor Never Crossed My Mind
Before college and even after my freshmen year in college, I never valued the importance of
helping other people. Back then, I used to think that no matter how hard we try, there will still
be people who need our help. And to be honest, the thought of becoming a doctor never crossed
my mind, until the car accident that occurred during my sophomore year that put me in a coma
for two weeks and took away my brother s life. Being so close to death has not only taught me
that life is so precious, yet fragile, it has also made me realize that this life is not all about me.
Fast forward to today, I still feel thankful for being alive every day and the time I spent in the
hospitalreally helped me realize that it doesn t matter if we can t help everyone, but what does
matter is the people that we were able to help. After I returned to school, I decided to participate
in various volunteer activities to help underprivileged people, a thing that I never was able to
bring myself to do before. It is also when I decided to pursue a career in medicine, hoping that I
might be able to ease the pain of other people.
During the summer after my sophomore year in college, I decided to participate in a program by
the United Nations that provided clinical assistances to a small village, called Tayo in Cambodia.
On the first couple of days, I assisted the doctors with the patient s medical history as well as any
relevant information that might help them with their diagnosis. As I get used to

Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his innovative
contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant techniques for linear
perspective and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its precision and beauty. In 1418, the
Cathedral of Florencewas about to undergo a seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral
was in need of a grand dome to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had
ever undergone building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground!
Even with all of the difficulties present, the city of Florence offered a large commission to the
person with the best idea for completing the task. Even though Brunelleschi... Show more content

Could a dome weighing tens of thousands of tons stay up without them? Was a dome structure
even possible given the octagonal floor plan, without collapsing in on itself? Not to mention the
fact that no lifting mechanisms were available at the time to maneuver the heavy materials so far
off the ground. Brunelleschi utilized innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His
complex system of gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled
until the industrial revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for every
problem looming over the project. He used two shells within the dome bound with large hoops,
supported by tension rings of stone, iron and wood. He built the first 46 feet in stone and continued
with brick, a much lighter material. This discovery is revolutionary even today, and it paved the
way for cultural and social revolutions of the Renaissance. Even though Brunelleschi invented the
idea and oversaw the entire production, he relied on the work of a devoted army of masons and
stonecutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, lead beaters, barrelmakers, water carriers, and other

How To Build A Computer
How I got interested in computers was when I got my very first one when I was sort of young
around eight or nine. It wasn t the best computer out at the time, but it was still a computer that
made me so attached to and fascinated with the technology that makes up computers. When I
started using computers, I would use them to play games and all sorts of stuff, but now that I
have my own computer that I built and paid for I can do anything with it, and it cost me around
one thousand and five hundred and sixty dollars. I use it to mostly play games, but I use it for school
work and browsing the internet.
I already know the basics and a lot about computers. I know how to build them. When it comes to
building a computer, people usually feel overwhelmed so they usually take it to a store and pay a
certain amount to have the person working their to build it for them, but I built my computer
without any help, and it was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, along
with the feeling of accomplishment. More than likely, I will never forget building my first
computer. So far I only know how to build them, and how to troubleshoot them if something is

Ku Klux Klan Research
Several months ago, I walked to my mailbox to check the mail. As walked down my driveway, I
noticed a clear plastic bag in my front yard. As I retrieved the bag, I realized that it contained
some sort of flyer. The flyer was a drawing of a Ku Klux Klaman with a caption below it that
read, Neighborhood Watch, you can sleep tonight knowing that the Klan is awake! . The flyer also
contained several phone numbers and a website. Upon reading the contents of this flyer, I was
appalled and shocked. After the initial shock of finding this flyer, I became angry, but curious. I was
curious about the establishment of the Klan.
In this paper, I will attempt to discuss how the Ku Klux Klan was founded and the impact the group

History.com (2009) stated that the group turned to the Greek language for inspiration. One of the
founders, Richard R. Reed, suggested the Greek word kuklos, which in English meant circle and
cycle. Bond (2011) also stated that John B. Kennedy added the word clan. After a while, the
society settled on the Ku Klux Klan. By chance, the selection of the name had a profound effect
on the clan s early success. Bond (2011) added that soon after the adaption of the name, the Klan
decided to do a little boosting of their newly formed society. So, the Klan disguised themselves in
sheets and rode their horses through the calm streets of the small town on Pulaski, Tennessee. This
action created a stir in the quiet community. This led the men to adopt the sheets as the official
uniform of the Ku Klux Klan. They added to the uniform by wearing tall pointed hats.
Similar to hazing or initiation in college fraternities and sororities, the Klan performed intricate
ceremonies for new members. The ceremony consisted of acts such as blind folding the prospect,
subjecting them to a series of oaths and rough handling before bringing him before the royal alter,
where he was to be given a royal crown, which was nothing more than a mirror and a crown made

Classroom Management Is Essential For Effective Teaching...
Introduction
Classroom management is essential to effective teaching because this is what makes a classroom
flow forward in the direction of academic success and a great school year. The text states that
classroom management is comprised of the necessary processes to create and maintain a positive
environment that is conducive to teaching and learning (Newman, 2013). Classroom management
plays an important role in the setup of a classroom. Classroom management should begin on the
very first day of school. It is how efficiently a teacher can have schedules, structure, and procedures,
well maintained in the classroom. When the teacher demonstrates what the expectations are on day
one and continues to practice these routines and procedures, it sets the tone of the classroom from
day one, and is what is expected the entire year. A teacher uses classroom management to create and
maintain a learning environment. Discipline of students in a classroom has little to do with the
learning environment and overall management of the classroom. The learning environment will be
functional when there are positive expectations of the students. In a well managed classroom
students are involved with their work as the teacher facilitates instruction (N. A., n. d.). This
increases student achievement and there is little time for confusion and disruptive behavior. Harry
Wong states that students know what is expected of them and are generally successful (Wong,
1998). Expectations

60 Ml Of Soda Lab Report
At the beginning of lab eight it was hypothesized that the reaction between 60 mL of soda, .5 g
of pop rocks , and 20 mL of .64 M HCl was a exothermic reaction. It was also hypothesized that
lethal dose of pop rocks and soda would be fairly high. This hypothesis was based on prior
information and estimation of the lethal dose ratio. After calculating the heat released (q) and
finding 1.0506 J it was determined that the chemical reactionbetween pop rocks and soda is
exothermic. The reaction was also considered exothermic due to heat being released and the
temperatureincreasing. This part of the hypothesis was found to be correct , however the second
part of the hypothesis was incorrect. After calculating the LD50 ratio the lethal dose for pop rocks
was 3.59 g and the lethal dose for soda was .413 g. The lethal dose of the soda and pop rocks was
significantly lower than expected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experiment was a success because all of the ultimate goals were completed. The volume of
CO2 released from the pop rock reaction was calculated and found at 58 mL. The moles of CO2
was calculated at .00233 mol. The experiment was also a success because it was found that the
heat released from combining and eating pop rocks with soda would not kill the consumer unless
it was consumed in very high doses. The combination is not dangerous because it doesn t release a
large amount of heat. The simulation of stomach acid, pop rocks, and soda reviled that the
temperature increase during the reaction is minimal. Some possible errors of this experiment was
missing some of the CO2 when the tube escapes the graduated cylinder. To avoid this in the future
the tube could be held during the apparatus processes. Another possible error is miscalculation of
LD50. In the future calculations could be done more precisely and

Toxic Waste And Hazardous Waste
Toxic wastes are a big problem what we are still facing today around the world. Most of this toxic
waste is affecting our water that people need to survive with. Drinking water is now dangerous
in certain parts of the world, and water is very essential to living. If they can t have drinking
water, how do we expect them to have water to clean them as well? With the toxic wastes being a
big controversy, we as a whole need to stand up and fix this problem for everyone. People only
want to take control when it is hitting home, with their neighbors and family and friends. What few
have failed to realize, it has been in our homes as well.
There is a difference between toxic waste and hazardous waste that many people don t know about.
People just categorize all negative aspects of waste as hazardous, even though neither one is good
for yourself or the environment. Toxic waste is when only the negative is digested or absorbed,
then in can be harmful to the body. This includes things that can cause birth defects, injuries, or
death to living organisms. While hazardous waste is when it is a solid, liquid, or gas that contains
one or more of these properties; reactive, can be ignitable, can corrode, or has toxicity and which
may have to be handled, stored, transported, and disposed of in a controlled manner.
According to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, hazardous waste is described
as a waste that has substances in it that can make it harmful to human health

Fig 2.1 Renewable generation and displacement supported by the RET, 2013 [6]
This high number of renewable energy penetration especially in LV network has raised new way
of utilizing bidirectional power flow in the distribution network. Bidirectional power flow from
DG, is common phenomena now a day s .For example, in a normal sunny day, the average PV
generation would be high compared to cloudy day; and, the load requirement during day time in
residential areas are quite low compared to early evening to night time. As, PV installations are
carried out keeping the total load demand from a house , during the sunny day, the PV can easily
exceed the load demand and generate excess power than required. This power is then back flowed
to the distribution network causing bidirectional power flow. From recent trends, in most of the
countries with PV installation in the world, this bidirectional power flow is allowed in the grid via
the smart meter and the distribution retailers pay the consumer for supplying power to

Galen s Book Of Science
1. Even the best scientists have been wrong about some things. Give two examples from this

of life, but Vesalius corrects his mistakes after mistakes. Although Vesalius needs to use Galen s
book as a material to teach students, Vesalius still encourage the students what they actually see.
Second, Giovanni Borelli as a mathematician broke down a body into different component parts

In different terms, scientists give different definitions of life. For example, because Gladiators
played special roles in ancient Rome culture, Glaudius Galen defined that violent and bloody

Who Is Napoleon Bonaparte Rise To Power
In my opinion, Napoleon was the creator of his times. This man made himself a dictator of
France, ensuring that he would have full power to do whatever he pleased. Though his friends
urged him to seize political power in the first place, Napoleon agreed to this suggestion and from
there built his empire. As time went on, Napoleon simply grew in his thirst for power, starting wars
and attempting to conquer all of Europeand regain French power in America. Napoleon began his
dictatorship by strengthening the economy and supporting new laws that would help the
government grow. In order to do these things, Napoleon first set in place a tax collection and stable
banking system. From there, with a constant flow of money stabilizing the economy, Napoleon
revised the government, making it more efficient and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this, Napoleon created a new relationship with the Church in which the government
acknowledged the importance of the Church but did not allow the Church to have any control in
worldwide decisions. Overall, the larger part of the French people and the Church were
supportive of this agreement. Napoleon s greatest work in his mind was his system of laws, called
the Napoleonic Code. This set of laws gave France a straightforward list of injustices. Several of
these laws from the code promoted authority and order over rights of individuals such as
freedom of speech and slavery in the Caribbean. In the short period of only four years after
Napoleon was named first consul, Napoleon decided to become emperor. French supporters
watched as Napoleon took the crown from the pope and placed it on his own head at the Notre
Dame Cathedral. By doing this Napoleon implied that he was of even greater power than the
Church, who in the past had crowned rulers. Though he had accomplished much, Napoleon was
determined to conquer all of Europe and control the Americas as

Bigger and better manhood is what most men desire to achieve. There are various methods that are

within the shortest amount of time is male enhancement surgery or phalloplasty. Since this is an
invasive process, you need to consider it carefully. Below are some important details about this

Inside your body, there are still about 8 10 centimeters of the penis (the length depends on your
lineage; for an average American, it is about 13 centimeters). There is a cavity inside your body
through which the remaining penile length hangs from your pubic bone. It is suspended by two
ligaments or connective tissues (called fundiform and suspensory ligaments, respectively) that also
anchor the external tissue of the penis to your body. Through surgery, this internal part is freed
and allows the penis to gain in length, both in flaccid state and in erect state. Once the surgery is
done successfully, you will notice that even in the flaccid state, your penis may be 2 3 centimeters
longer. Even if it is limp, there will be a noticeable increase in its length. When it is erect, you can
expect further good results. After surgery, you can expect to have a cicatricial retraction. During
normal healing, scarring occurs that at times can cause the tissues to contract. This contraction is
controlled by a counterweight until the shaft has completely healed. Concerns have been raised

Joining Band Essay
The Best Decision I ever made: Joining Band
Five years ago, I was introduced to the subject of band by my best friend and that introduction
sowed the seed to join. The next decision I faced was the important choice of an instrument,
which was not very hard for me. I chose the clarinet because it was the only one that responded
with a grateful sound. Without my license and parents working late at night, I had to search for a
ride since I assumed my friend, who attended band on a different day, could take me. Getting up
an hour earlier than most students proved to be a struggle for me, but as time went on it became
less challenging. Joining band was and is more than a musical exercise for me; it equates unity with
harmony, personal growth with rhythm, and benefits with melody on the larger playing field of life.
Harmony is defined as the combination of sounds to produce chords which can be compared to the
coming together first of my instrument and me and the two of us with the band. My clarinet and ...

Participating in band requires a substantial time investment and is rather demanding. Therefore, I
had to learn to be organized and to prioritize wisely to meet all the scheduling details ranging
from school, homework, my job, science Olympiad, band practice, friendships, and many more. As
a result of my interest and passion for this extracurricular activity, my time management skills and
self discipline have greatly improved. I am evermore in step with the demands put upon me and

A Dirty Little Secret Of Leadership Development Essay
A dirty little secret of leadership development is there are few truly new and innovative ideas.
Recently published books, tools, and concepts repackage ideas from decades or centuries ago to
address the needs of twenty first century leaders and organizations. For example, Amazon lists
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin as
the current best seller in business management and leadership. Willink and Babin s ideas are solid
and their stories are both inspiring and compelling. Nonetheless their concepts are not new.
Academicians, practitioners, and leaders have highlighted these same principles for decades:
check the ego, prioritize and execute, and decisiveness amid uncertainty, to name a select few.
This is not a criticism, rather a reality of the leadership industry. Accordingly my contributions to
the field are not uniquely inventive. Rather I excel at packaging existing ideas in creative, simple,
and applicable ways that address my clients needs and inspire impactful leadership. I recently
shared a set of risktaking tools with a client that demonstrates this skill.
The executive marketing team for a specific product group in a global foods company asked me to
facilitate a strategic offsite, emphasizing leadership agility. The big players in the food industry are

Women And Girls Should Have Power Over Their Own Bodies
All women and girls should have power over their own bodies and the right to decide whether and
when to have children. Reproductive health is about safe pregnancy and childbirth, prevention and
treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, and family planning and access to contraception. This
is the UN definition of reproductive rights, and is created based on UN s Millennium
Development Goals. The goals as well as this explanation are something all nations should thrive
towards. I will take a look at Norway, and how the situation regarding reproductive capacities, as
well as reproductive rights, as this goes hand in hand. There is two reasons I am looking at
Norway, one being that I am myself from Norway, and can on some level speak based on my
own experience. The main reason however is that Norway has many times, and by many
different surveys, been rated the best country in the world to live in , and can therefore be seen as
a primary example on reproductive rights. I will take a look at the different policies put in place in
Norway, as well, as the tittle states what claims partners, familyand the Norwegian state have

Exploration of Exploitation During the 1970 s Generation
The 70 s decade represented a very experimental and uncertain time for the film Industry. Due to
financial instability, the Hollywood studio system had collapsed. The invention of the television
too had a disastrous effect on audiences attending movie theaters as many people were inclined to

Cesar Chavez Influence On Migrant Workers
Labor unions have been instrumental in the lives of workers throughout American history, and have
led to important advances in the American workforce. Throughout history there have been patterns
of exploitation of immigrant workers by businesses in order to increase profits; the Mexican
migrant workers of southern California are the most recent historical group to fall into this pattern
of exploitation mostly from their lack of organization. Cesar E. Chavez was a great organizer and

Chavez wanted to help the community that he came from, as well as others like it. The migrant
worker community became his main focus, this resulted his creation of the UFW in 1962
(Chavez Foundation). His earlier life as a migrant worker would be a strong influence for
attaining better working conditions for those workers. Early in Chavez s life, he was exposed to
the hardships of migrant working. When Chavez was 10 his family was forced from their home in
Yuma, Arizona because of back taxes and because of the depression, his family couldn t pay the
payments (Castillo and Garcia, 7). Chavez began migrant work when he was 14, and the injustices
had a memorable effect. Migrant workers were often exploited because of their lack of organization
in a uniform union group, something that Chavez would eventually change. In future years the
UFW would give migrant workers a voice in the conditions under which they were living and
working. Strikes, boycotts, and other nonviolent protests were essential to the UFW s ability to
attain advancements in the Mexican American workplace. Though strikes previous to 1964 were
often unsuccessful because of the Bracero program that was implemented by both the United
States and Mexican governments. Farm owners encouraged this program because of labor
shortages during wartime, but by the 1950 s the Bracero workers were being used to undercut

Even with an apology to Japanese Americans for their internment, the Internment is still
considered a dark mark in America s history. On December 7, 1941, The United States declared

set up Japanese internment camps for people of Japanese decent living in America. More than
120,000 Japanese Americans were taken from their homes and put into these camps. America
claimed that the Japanese had no rights of citizenship and that this was the only and best way to

this is shown in their songs satisfaction and brown sugar . Also the Beatles changed with the
teenagers of the era they changed from the clean cut boys of 1963 and became the weird and
wonderful followers of Maharishi, an Indian guru. The Rolling Stones also changed through the

The Tragedy Of The Greek Tragedy
Great Tragedy Results in Deeper thinking Throughout the history of ancient literature, tragedy was
one of the most famous and significant literary forms. Especially, Greek tragedy literature was a
popular and influential form of drama performed in theatres across ancient Greece from the late 6th
century BCE, and formed the foundation upon which all modern theatre is based (Cartwright). I
will look for not only the reasons why Greek writers composed such tragedy, but also focus on what
made the audience enjoy the tragedy. Because, essentially the readers and the audience were the
people make literatures famous and the way how audience interpreted them is also important.
Indeed, tragedy not only influenced the ancient audience, but also have a great effect upon many
current readers.
Before we begin discuss about the ancient tragedy, let me first illustrate the meaning of tragedy.
Tragedy is a form of drama based on human suffering that invokes an accompanying catharsis or
pleasure in audiences (Banham). Moreover, some scholars suggest tragedy is the mirror image
or negative of comedy. For instead of depicting the rise in circumstances of a dejected or outcast
underdog, tragedy shows us the downfall of a once prominent and powerful hero. Like comedy,
tragedy also supposedly originated as part of a religious ritual (Simpson). And in ancient Greek,
both comedy and tragedy were performed widely in the theatre. Essentially, both comedy and
tragedy were created and performed

The Externalities Of Taxation On Capital Gain
The externalities of taxation on capital gain have been a controversial debate among scholars,
economists and policy makers along the timeline of ever changing tax reforms in the history of the
United States. This introduction covers all the possible externalities that change in marginal tax
rate can have on investors incentives and timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by
the government and the social welfare changes.
The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on the effect of
taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount since in the United States
long term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at a significantly lower rate than ordinary ...

Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would consequently
reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies, which eventually reduces
the market activity and causes a welfare loss.
The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When we only consider
the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since
the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting
factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due
to the unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore
increases the tax revenue. The other positive externality is that lowering the tax rate on capital
gain would result in an increase in tax revenue due to peopleing pay taxes on higher value of their
assets when realized since the value of existing stocks increases.
The two articles I m comparing in this paper, The Effects of Taxation on the Selling of Corporate
Stock and The realization of Capital Gains by Feldstein, Slemrod, and Yitzhaki (1980) and
Measuring Permanent Responses to Capital Gains Tax Changes in Panel Data by Burman and
Randolph (1994), both primarily focused on the lock in externality, with Feldstein examining
externality on tax revenue as well.

Denzel Washington Influence
The Influences of Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.
Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman have a staggering eighty six years of combined acting
experience. (Sandra Brennan) and (Jessie Carney Smith). Furthermore, Freeman studied acting
while Denzel studied journalism and drama, this compelled both of them to become two of the
most successful African Americanactors in history. Throughout the course of this essay, we will
be delving into how these two contemporary actors are relevant in todays society, in what way did
the context of their careers and works of artistry influence both my opinion and leave us with
impactful values. The context leading up to Denzel s acting derives from a recitation at a summer
camp job (Jessie Carney Smith). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption. Morgan plays several pertinent roles that stimulate
and inspire. Firstly, Morgan s role is introduced as the go to man, acquiring things for Andy.
Secondly, Morgan s role as Red, develops a friendship with Andy as well. Lastly, Red, transpires
into Andy s advocate, when Andy is caught up in multiple fights and solitary sentences. The
reasoning to its relevance is quite simple. We all need someone who can acquire things we need,
here are few examples. Firstly, the girl behind me today who happen to have a stapler when I
needed one. Secondly, a friendly face of a classroom peer to run ramped with trying to find a
printer to use when we forgot the library wasn t open until 9. Lastly, you the professor, advocating
the specifics of the paper I am currently writing. Next, we will be discussing the contents of the film
The Shawshank Redemption. Firstly, the largest and most vivid aspect is Freeman s voice over.
Secondly, the continuity cuts of Andy s abuse scenes truly depict a high intensity story slowly
being unveiled. Lastly, the music used during the intercom opera scandal almost stops moviegoers in

The Sinking Of The Titanic
A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours
to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38;
Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean
floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total
people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it
entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable
(Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up
call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the
sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and
shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster
were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to
the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many
lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of
which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912,
and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its
inception. According to the Merchant

Civil War Spies
Male and female spies were essential sources of information during the Civil War. The best spies
were people you would never suspect. Spies were brave, faceless and they knew the environment
very well. Their presence was incredibly excepted. Whether they dressed as men and joined the
army, posed as mindless slaves, or just kept their ears opens in collective circles, spies provided
necessary information. It was even a woman spy who provided Union battle plans to Confederate
Army, which allowed them to win the First Battle of Manassass (First Bull Run). Throughout
history, men have been spies and the American Civil War
was no exception. The finest spies are

There he shared the information that he had gathered on his journey. It is not known why he
was such a great spy but he was knoown as a sneaky man. On August 15, 1862, he was arrested,
taken to Richmond for trial, and sentenced to hang. He was arrested after sinking the ferry
supplying Fort Hudson, Georgia. On September 25, 1863 Spencer Kellogg Brown was hanged.
Spencer once said before his dreadful death, Did you ever pass through a tunnel under a mountain?
My passage, my death is dark, but beyond all is light and bright.
George Curtis, another first rate spy, was living in New York at the beginning of the Civil War,
and he joined a New York Infantry Regiment. He then became a Pinkerton agent, and a
tremendous spy. He was selected in 1862 to obtain information from Richmond. He made his
way to the Confederate capital as a contraband merchant selling gun caps, ammunition, and the
much needed quinine. The day after reaching Virginia he was taken to the Confederate lines and
to an audience with Lt. General Ambrose Powell Hill. General Hill gave him a pass to go on to
Richmond and also asked Curtis if he would carry some dispatches as well. Curtis gladly agreed
to carry out his chore. When Curtis reached Richmond he was introduced to Confederate Secretary
of War Judah Benjamin where he negotiated for the delivery of his contraband goods and received
a pass to move in and out of Richmond freely.

Okonkwo’s Resistance to Change in Chinua Achebe s Things...
The character of Okonkwo in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart was driven by fear, a fear of
change and losing his self worth. He needed the village of Umuofia, his home, to remain
untouched by time and progress because its system and structure were the measures by which he
assigned worth and meaning in his own life. Okonkwo required this external order because of his
childhood and a strained relationship with his father, which was also the root of his fears and
subsequent drive for success. When the structure of Umuofia changed, as happens in society,
Okonkwo was unable to adapt his methods of self evaluation and ways of functioning in the world;
the life he was determined to live could not survive a new environment and collapsed around...

If he was accepted in the community, he was safe, respected, and successful, unlike his father,
and his life had meaning. Okonkwo continually rejected the ways of his father, who was deeply
indebted to other members of Umuofia, holding no titles, to the point where Okonkwo s whole
life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness (16). He transferred his fears into
the context of Umuofia and the traits that society valued, but what was really the driving force
in his decisions was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father (17). The
values of Umuofia resembled the polar opposite of what Unoka was and Okonkwo twisted his
motivations around in his mind and presented them to himself and the community as derived from
Umuofia s traditions. From this delusion, Okonkwo established his ultimate goal of becoming a
revered member of the village, possessing many titles, and achieving anything necessary
displaying his prominence in the community. The disparity between Okonkwo s true motivations
and his warped motivations lead Okonkwo to behave in ways which shocked other members of
Umuofia with his apparent disregard for others, but which made sense to him as he saw weakness
and Unoka in alternatives. When Ezeudu, a respected elder in Umuofia, informed Okonkwo that
the village Oracle called for the killing of Okonkwo s adopted son Ikemefuna, he asked Okonkwo
not to take part. However, Okonkwo not only accompanied them,

  • 2. How To Write A Short Story Of Lincoln s Wife While residing in New Salem, Lincoln became acquainted with Ann Rutledge. Apparently he was fond of her, and certainly he grieved with the entire community at her untimely death, in 1835, at the age of 22. Afterward, stories were told of a grand romance between Lincoln and Rutledge, but these stories are not supported by sound historical evidence. A year after the deathof Rutledge, Lincoln carried on a halfhearted courtship with Mary Owens, who eventually concluded that Lincoln was deficient in those little links which make up the chain of womans happiness. She turned down his proposal. So far as can be known, the first and only real love of Lincoln s life was Mary Todd. High spirited, quick witted, and well educated, Todd came from a... Like most married couples, the Lincolns also had their domestic quarrels, which sometimes were hectic but which undoubtedly were exaggerated by contemporary gossips. She suffered from recurring headaches, fits of temper, and a sense of insecurity and loneliness that was intensified by her husband s long absences on the lawyer s circuit. After his election to the presidency, she was afflicted by the death of her son Willie, by the ironies of a war that made enemies of Kentucky relatives and friends, and by the unfair public criticisms of her as mistress of the White House. She developed an obsessive need to spend money, and she ran up embarrassing bills. She also staged some painful scenes of wifely jealousy. At last, in 1875, she was officially declared insane, though by that time she had undergone the further shock of seeing her husband murdered at her side. • 4. Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S? Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776. Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case. Outlawing guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime. It seems that by banning guns, people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm. Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns (capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew Research. Analysis Of The Prologue Of The Canterbury Tales Bhakta, Karan English IV, Sixth Hour Mr. Adcock 8 December 2015 The Religious Vows In The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer has some religious characters who break the vows they pledge for, to get a place in the Church. Many characters in the story seem to have an awkward characteristic that the writer did not notice. Why do the religious characters break the vow? How do they break it? For example, the monk was a primary part of the church, but as you keep reading, the characters start to change in ways you could never imagine. Some character do not interact with each other depending upon their social class level. The vows that the religious characters break are the Vow of Poverty, the Vow of Chastity, the Vow of Obedience, and the Vow of Stability. The vow that is probably the most frequently broken is the Vow of Poverty. As a religious figure, the monk probably should not be expensively dressed in fine fur or gold jewelry. He is also showing others that he is rich with all this jewelry. • 10. The Importance Of Becoming A Doctor Never Crossed My Mind Before college and even after my freshmen year in college, I never valued the importance of helping other people. Back then, I used to think that no matter how hard we try, there will still be people who need our help. And to be honest, the thought of becoming a doctor never crossed my mind, until the car accident that occurred during my sophomore year that put me in a coma for two weeks and took away my brother s life. Being so close to death has not only taught me that life is so precious, yet fragile, it has also made me realize that this life is not all about me. Fast forward to today, I still feel thankful for being alive every day and the time I spent in the hospitalreally helped me realize that it doesn t matter if we can t help everyone, but what does matter is the people that we were able to help. After I returned to school, I decided to participate in various volunteer activities to help underprivileged people, a thing that I never was able to bring myself to do before. It is also when I decided to pursue a career in medicine, hoping that I might be able to ease the pain of other people. During the summer after my sophomore year in college, I decided to participate in a program by the United Nations that provided clinical assistances to a small village, called Tayo in Cambodia. • 11. Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his innovative contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant techniques for linear perspective and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its precision and beauty. In 1418, the Cathedral of Florencewas about to undergo a seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral was in need of a grand dome to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had ever undergone building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground! Brunelleschi utilized innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His complex system of gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled until the industrial revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for every problem looming over the project. He used two shells within the dome bound with large hoops, supported by tension rings of stone, iron and wood. He built the first 46 feet in stone and continued with brick, a much lighter material. This discovery is revolutionary even today, and it paved the way for cultural and social revolutions of the Renaissance. So, the Klan disguised themselves in sheets and rode their horses through the calm streets of the small town on Pulaski, Tennessee. This action created a stir in the quiet community. This led the men to adopt the sheets as the official uniform of the Ku Klux Klan. They added to the uniform by wearing tall pointed hats. • 15. Classroom Management Is Essential For Effective Teaching... Introduction Classroom management is essential to effective teaching because this is what makes a classroom flow forward in the direction of academic success and a great school year. The text states that classroom management is comprised of the necessary processes to create and maintain a positive environment that is conducive to teaching and learning (Newman, 2013). Classroom management plays an important role in the setup of a classroom. Classroom management should begin on the very first day of school. It is how efficiently a teacher can have schedules, structure, and procedures, well maintained in the classroom. When the teacher demonstrates what the expectations are on day one and continues to practice these routines and procedures, it sets the tone of the classroom from day one, and is what is expected the entire year. A teacher uses classroom management to create and maintain a learning environment. Discipline of students in a classroom has little to do with the learning environment and overall management of the classroom. The learning environment will be functional when there are positive expectations of the students. In a well managed classroom students are involved with their work as the teacher facilitates instruction (N. A., n. d.). This increases student achievement and there is little time for confusion and disruptive behavior. Harry Wong states that students know what is expected of them and are generally successful (Wong, 1998). Expectations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was also hypothesized that lethal dose of pop rocks and soda would be fairly high. This hypothesis was based on prior information and estimation of the lethal dose ratio. After calculating the heat released (q) and finding 1.0506 J it was determined that the chemical reactionbetween pop rocks and soda is exothermic. The reaction was also considered exothermic due to heat being released and the temperatureincreasing. This part of the hypothesis was found to be correct , however the second part of the hypothesis was incorrect. This man made himself a dictator of France, ensuring that he would have full power to do whatever he pleased. Though his friends urged him to seize political power in the first place, Napoleon agreed to this suggestion and from there built his empire. As time went on, Napoleon simply grew in his thirst for power, starting wars and attempting to conquer all of Europeand regain French power in America. Napoleon began his dictatorship by strengthening the economy and supporting new laws that would help the government grow. Several of these laws from the code promoted authority and order over rights of individuals such as freedom of speech and slavery in the Caribbean. In the short period of only four years after Napoleon was named first consul, Napoleon decided to become emperor. French supporters watched as Napoleon took the crown from the pope and placed it on his own head at the Notre Dame Cathedral. Inside your body, there are still about 8 10 centimeters of the penis (the length depends on your lineage; for an average American, it is about 13 centimeters). There is a cavity inside your body through which the remaining penile length hangs from your pubic bone. It is suspended by two ligaments or connective tissues (called fundiform and suspensory ligaments, respectively) that also anchor the external tissue of the penis to your body. Through surgery, this internal part is freed and allows the penis to gain in length, both in flaccid state and in erect state. Once the surgery is done successfully, you will notice that even in the flaccid state, your penis may be 2 3 centimeters longer. Even if it is limp, there will be a noticeable increase in its length. When it is erect, you can expect further good results. After surgery, you can expect to have a cicatricial retraction. During normal healing, scarring occurs that at times can cause the tissues to contract. This contraction is controlled by a counterweight until the shaft has completely healed. Recently published books, tools, and concepts repackage ideas from decades or centuries ago to address the needs of twenty first century leaders and organizations. For example, Amazon lists Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin as the current best seller in business management and leadership. Willink and Babin s ideas are solid and their stories are both inspiring and compelling. Nonetheless their concepts are not new. This introduction covers all the possible externalities that change in marginal tax rate can have on investors incentives and timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by the government and the social welfare changes. The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on the effect of taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount since in the United States long term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at a significantly lower rate than ordinary ... Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would consequently reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies, which eventually reduces the market activity and causes a welfare loss. The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When we only consider the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due to the unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore increases the tax revenue. The other positive externality is that lowering the tax rate on capital gain would result in an increase in tax revenue due to peopleing pay taxes on higher value of their assets when realized since the value of existing stocks increases. The two articles I m comparing in this paper, The Effects of Taxation on the Selling of Corporate Stock and The realization of Capital Gains by Feldstein, Slemrod, and Yitzhaki (1980) and Measuring Permanent Responses to Capital Gains Tax Changes in Panel Data by Burman and Randolph (1994), both primarily focused on the lock in externality, with Feldstein examining externality on tax revenue as well. Furthermore, Freeman studied acting while Denzel studied journalism and drama, this compelled both of them to become two of the most successful African Americanactors in history. Morgan plays several pertinent roles that stimulate and inspire. Firstly, Morgan s role is introduced as the go to man, acquiring things for Andy. Secondly, Morgan s role as Red, develops a friendship with Andy as well. Lastly, Red, transpires into Andy s advocate, when Andy is caught up in multiple fights and solitary sentences. The reasoning to its relevance is quite simple. We all need someone who can acquire things we need, here are few examples. Firstly, the girl behind me today who happen to have a stapler when I needed one. Secondly, a friendly face of a classroom peer to run ramped with trying to find a printer to use when we forgot the library wasn t open until 9. Lastly, you the professor, advocating the specifics of the paper I am currently writing. Next, we will be discussing the contents of the film The Shawshank Redemption. Firstly, the largest and most vivid aspect is Freeman s voice over. Secondly, the continuity cuts of Andy s abuse scenes truly depict a high intensity story slowly being unveiled. • 46. The Sinking Of The Titanic A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38; Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable (Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912, and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its inception. According to the Merchant ... • 49. Okonkwo’s Resistance to Change inВ Chinua Achebe s Things... The character of Okonkwo in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart was driven by fear, a fear of change and losing his self worth. He needed the village of Umuofia, his home, to remain untouched by time and progress because its system and structure were the measures by which he assigned worth and meaning in his own life. Okonkwo required this external order because of his childhood and a strained relationship with his father, which was also the root of his fears and subsequent drive for success. When the structure of Umuofia changed, as happens in society, Okonkwo was unable to adapt his methods of self evaluation and ways of functioning in the world; the life he was determined to live could not survive a new environment and collapsed around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he was accepted in the community, he was safe, respected, and successful, unlike his father, and his life had meaning. Okonkwo continually rejected the ways of his father, who was deeply indebted to other members of Umuofia, holding no titles, to the point where Okonkwo s whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness (16). He transferred his fears into the context of Umuofia and the traits that society valued, but what was really the driving force in his decisions was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father (17). The values of Umuofia resembled the polar opposite of what Unoka was and Okonkwo twisted his motivations around in his mind and presented them to himself and the community as derived from Umuofia s traditions. From this delusion, Okonkwo established his ultimate goal of becoming a revered member of the village, possessing many titles, and achieving anything necessary displaying his prominence in the community. The disparity between Okonkwo s true motivations and his warped motivations lead Okonkwo to behave in ways which shocked other members of Umuofia with his apparent disregard for others, but which made sense to him as he saw weakness and Unoka in alternatives. When Ezeudu, a respected elder in Umuofia, informed Okonkwo that the village Oracle called for the killing of Okonkwo s adopted son Ikemefuna, he asked Okonkwo not to take part. However, Okonkwo not only accompanied them, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
