In 1945, the United States had declared war on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. Since Japan was an island, the U.S. wouldn't be able to
directly attack them. It was too far away for an air raid and naval raids would be too predictable and wouldn't work. So, the United States had to think
of a way to attack the Japanese. They decided that since the Japanese were still fighting against other countries, they could attack the smaller islands
surrounding Japan. The U.S. thought that these islands would be less defended by the Japanese. The United States felt like they could use these islands
