Rhetorical Analysis Obama Speech
Language of a Public Figure The opening of the speech is very clear and direct, setting a serious
essence for the audience to appreciate the detailed fashion in which Obama will go on to explain
the effects of Osama Bin Laden, America s actions, the assassination, and the important
distinguishing of Islam and Pakistan from Al Qaeda. Obama is very profound for his use of
emotive language; in this speech, he exemplifies this immediately. His use of antitheses opens
with, a bright September day was darkened . He then goes on to take the spectators back to the
tragic day of 9/11. He says, Hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky, the Twin
Towers collapsing to the ground, black smoke billowing up from The Pentagon . These... Show

He raises his voice with hints of anger when explaining how Al Qaeda was committed to killing
innocents . This raises the antagonism of the viewing population as well, setting the mood just
right for them to accept the justifying the war. Barrack Obama later adds that they, removed the
Taliban Government which seemingly suggests the Americans did what they did nicely, as
opposed to killing and torturing many of them, which they probably did. Obama then attempts to
give good reason for his point, again, by adding that the Taliban Government had given safe
haven and support to Al Qaeda. This justification convinces the American population that what
their army was doing necessary as well as peaceful. When elucidating the assassination, Obama
is sure to assert his role in affairs. This is initially made obvious when he switches from his
habitual collective pronouns to speaking in first person. He opens with, I determined and then at
my direction . This intentional change has the purpose of soaking up all the credit, indenting his
mark in the history of the USA. He goes on to explain how it was the most significant
achievement to date in our nation s effort to defeat Al Qaeda. This imperative description will turn
out to be very significant for the re election in 2012. The use of the words, bring him to justice and
took custody of his body also make the

How Does Howard Fast Present Joseph Simmons
Joseph Simmons
A monster of a man with a heart of gold. This is how I picture Joseph Simmons from April
Morning by Howard Fast. This book is about the first battles of the Revolutionary War. It is seen
through the eyes 15 year old Adam Cooper. Over the period of a few days, Joseph Simmons goes
from being a pretty flat character who is seen as the big, silent type, to stepping up and helping
lead some attacks on the British. He goes from looking to others for approval to stepping up and
finding his own voice. He also gains a son in Adam, when his father, Moses Cooper, is lost in the
battle. A good man overall, Joseph Simmons is somewhat simple, extremely moral, and very kind.
Joseph, the local blacksmith, is somewhat simple and known ... Show more content on

His kindness and his generosity make him, in my opinion, one of the best characters. Even
though he is a big, burly blacksmith, he cares and is not afraid to show it. Then I thought he d
break my ribs, the way he clutched me in those blacksmith arms of his, and when he let go of
me, I saw that the tears were pouring down his cheeks. (Fast #126) You can tell by that bit from
the book just how kind he is, how much he cares, and how he is not afraid to show it. After the
battle he also steps up to fill a hole in Adam s life, now that his father is dead. ...and then he took
hold of my hands and told me, plain and quiet, that while nothing could ever replace Moses
Cooper in my head, I could turn to him just as I would to a father. (Fast #135) Even though he
does not have to do this, he goes out of his way to, just because he is such a kind person. Joseph is
just overall a kind man, who puts others before

Hippolyta Plot
There are multiple interconnecting story arcs in this play. The exposition of the story is when
Hermia is on trial for defying her father s wishes, as well as when Duke Theseus proclaims his love
to Hippolyta. The rising action is when the four youths run away from Athens, when the
Mechanicals are introduced, and both groups encounter the fairies. The climax is when the four
youths quarrel over the lovespells, as well as when one of the laborers has his head replaced with
that of a donkey by Puck. The falling action is when the major human characters in the woods have
their magical predicaments fixed by the fairies (the youths join into two couples, Bottom s head is
restored to its normal condition). The denouement is when the Mechanicals put on the play for the
Theseus and Hippolyta s wedding, and all of the conflict is resolved in each plotline.... Show more

antagonists are the adult figures who dissaprove of their romance. The protagonists of the arc of
the Mechanicals are the laborers who seek to put on a show for the Duke and Queen, while the
antagonist is Puck, who is magically interfering with them for his own amusement. The protagonist
of the arc of the fairies is King Oberon of the fairies, who seeks to revive the love with his wife,

The Controversy Over The English Language Of The World
The English language began its climb to world dominance with the rise of the British Empire in the
16th century. During this time English began to spread as the worlds lingua franca for business and
trade. With the support of the United States, which at the time was one of the most successful
nations in history, english was able to overthrow all previous lingua francas. However, english
should not be considered as the gateway to the world . Although the english languageis widely
spoken around the world, making english language the official language of the world will lead to
diminishing cultural diversity.
Intrinsic arguments describe the English language as providential, rich, noble and interesting. Such
arguments tend to assert what English is and what other languages are not . As mentioned
previously, notwithstanding that the english language is widely spoken around the world, diversity
is important and for many individuals language is the basis of their culture. Making english the
global language is essentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These arguments describe english as advantageous and dominant, however they do not describe the
limitations of the english language. The truth is that English is an incredibly difficult language to
learn with its various grammar, punctuation and usage rules. I would assume that the majority of
people who agree that english should be the world s official tongue have never attempted to learn
any other languages.
Functional arguments emphasize the usefulness of English as a gateway to the world . I do agree
that english useful language in that it is an effective way to communicate thoughts and ideas,
however I do not agree that it is the gateway to the world . Instead I believe that english can
potentially be a co language in that it can be the language of world trade and

Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club
Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that
stigmas result in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels
society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories
or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal.
When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three
ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and
embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several
stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV
/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the
movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan
redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a
trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite
pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting
cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a substantial injury that mandates his blood be drawn. He is
diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts AIDS), sending his life into a downward spiral of
isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron that not only is he HIV positive, he

Variola Virus Research Paper
A virus is an infecting agent. Viruses are non living they need a living host, a living organism to
replicate themselves. When it invades a cell it will implant their code that is capable of copying
itself. This will cause a detrimental effect, corrupting the system ti its advantage or complete
destruction.
Smallpox also called variola is a serious and deadly disease. It is highly contagious. It presents itself
with rash of round pox (blsiters) on face, arms and legs. It is caused by the Variola Virus. There are
two forms of this virus Variola Major the deadliest with about 30% of fatally; and Variola minor
which had a fatality rate of about 1%. In the Unites States the last case was in 1949. Smallpox is

headache, severe fatigue, severe back pain, vomiting, and overall discomfort. After these
symptoms the rashes with flat red spots appear at this point the person is highly contagious; it

Smallpox has no cure. Edward Jenner developed the first vaccine in 1798 by observing how
milkmaids who had previously caught cowpox did not later catch Smallpox. He was able to show

Distorted Perceptions in F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the Night
Any visitor to the French Riviera in the mid 1920s, the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is
the Night, would describe Dr. Richard Diver as a charming, respected, well mannered physician.
Dick is a noble man who has dedicated his life to the health and protection of his beloved wife
without thought to himself. Furthermore, he gives wonderful parties and is a reliable source of
help to any friend in need. In fact, to be included in Dick Diver s world for a while was a remarkable
experience (Fitzgerald, Tender, 27).
Under this façade of composure, however, lies a tormented personality. The stresses in Dick s life
are numerous, as he deals with Nicole s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, while on the shore with his family, Dick decides to attempt a foolish trick involving a
speed boat, inspired by the closeness of Rosemary s exciting youth (282). This desperately insecure
need for external validation is characteristic of a prepubescent level of maturity which Dick surely
should have overcome long ago.
As his descent continues, Dick is even less convincingly able to act like the mature professional.
He gets drunk more frequently and is involved in a violent fight with some taxi drivers, and later
he inadvertently insults Mary North s in laws, showing he has lost some of his previously
impeccable manners. Even his mentally ill wife can see the results of his behavior, telling him,
You re a coward! You ve made a failure of your life and you want to blame it on me (301). Dick has
seemingly given up on acting like a grown up and all of its difficulties in favor of a more
immature, morally ignorant lifestyle.
Not only does Dick Diver s longing for youthful innocence show in his own youthful behavior, but
also in his attraction to much younger women, both paternally and sensually. His relationships with
Rosemary, his children, Nicole, and others reflect almost incestuous motives, a result of Dick s
fascination with immaturity (Stanton, 118). Starting with relatively unimportant evidence, it is
reported that after the divorce, Dick moved to upstate New York and

homeowners and investors interested in capturing maximum return on investment. Not every
property manager is certified. However, there are significant advantages to choosing a licensed

What is a Certified Property Manager (CPM)?
Certification is a valuable asset for property managers. CPM status designates a rental partner as a
professional truly committed to excellent service with a focus on ethical treatment for all
stakeholders buyers, sellers, investors, tenants and company employees.

A certified management specialist helps owners identify changes in the market with access to
current financing terms, market price fluctuations and the status of competing properties in the
area. This ensures rent values are competitive, and allows investors looking to expand their

2. A CPM has resources to help owners continuously monitor asset performance. Whether it is state
of the art technology such as online access to maintenance work orders and rent collection through
an owners portal, or market comps to help owners evaluate rent prices, the property management
team should be able to guide owner decisions that boost revenue potential.
3. Certification courses include best practices training modules that teach agents how to market
rental property to maximize profit and control expenses. These skills mean the CPM understands
when and where to market each property, and how to make sure these activities comply with local,

Homeless Youth Problem
Imagine being 16 and men bedroom being a sleeping bag under a bridge or a cot in an overfilled
shelter. Sadly that is a reality a lot of youth face. Homelessness is a huge problem alone, but
having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first
understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless,
and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out
who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are
under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they
are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at
home and 39% were sexually abused. Youth identifying as members of the LGBT community
make up about 40% of the homeless youth population. Being homeless is not a choice these
young people (ranging from 12 24) have made. Sometimes it isn t even abuse or a lack of
acceptance that forces them into this life of poverty, in some case their families could not
financially support them and the rest of the family and they leave as to not burden them. Now, we

Most Expensive IT Vulnerability
Most Expensive IT Vulnerability: Ineffective Patch Management Right now, 37% of Internet
users in the US are surfing the web with outdated versions of Java (CSIS, 2015). For
organizations that have not paid close attention to cybersecurity in the past, now is your wakeup
call. According to a recently released study, the average cost of a data breach in the United
States has climbed from $5.9 million to a staggering $6.5 million per breach (Ponemon, 2015).
This is enough to not only hurt many organizations, but also cause irrevocable damage to their
economic standings. The purpose of this paper is to examine what the root cause for most of
these breaches are. From a review of the largest breaches in the past 5 years, I have come down to
this conclusion: Unpatched software is single handedly costing American organizations billions of
dollars every year in expensive and embarrassing securitybreaches.
What are Unpatched Applications?
The first question you may be asking yourself is, What are Unpatched Applications? No
application is perfect; this is a constant in the cybersecurity realm. Vulnerabilities, or holes within
an application or operating system, will continue to be discovered. Once discovered, the developer
will design a fix for the vulnerability and release a patch or update. Once installed, the patch will
close the security flaw that had the potential to be exploited. Within an organization, there is the
possibility that not all the applications have been

Sonnets In Shakespeare s Sonnets
Sonnets are known for its rigid format and being the hoard of poets flowery love confessions and
tormenting heartache. While most poets generally stick to that cliche topic of love and the
traditional English or Petrarchan structures, sonnets are not defined by these archetypal features.
Both Shakespeare s My mistress eyes are... and Collins s Sonnetsatirically defy those typical
sonnets. However both poems differ, as Shakespeare follows the standard English sonnet style and
parodies the classic subject of love to show how ridiculous and idealistic love sonnets can be; while
Collins on the other hand, breaks free from those stern sonnet rules to joke about the strictness of
sonnet structures to define typical sonnet rules.
Shakespeare follows the English style of sonnets, while Collins partially follows the Petrarchan
style. Both sonnets include fourteen lines, a defining feature of the sonnet form. My mistress eyes
are... consists of three quatrains that describes his argument on love cliches, and ends with a
couplet, the turning point of English sonnets. The sonnet consists of ten syllables each line,
adhering to the rhythm of the iambic pentameter rule. Shakespeare s sonnet follows the usual rhyme
scheme of an English sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg. Conversely, Collins attempts to stray from the
general sonnet principles in contrast with Shakespeare. Sonnet loosely follows the Petrarchan style,
as the lines are grouped into one octave, a stanza of eight lines, and one sestet, a stanza of six lines,
in structure. Collins s Sonnet does not have a rhyme scheme, nor does the poem follow iambic
pentameter. His sonnet does, however, present his turn in the beginning of the sestet, a recurrent
feature of a Petrarchan sonnet. Collins begins poking fun at English sonnets in the octave, but then
turns to joke at Petrarchan forms. Both sonnets have a lighthearted, humorous tone, yet the poems
parody the classic styles of sonnets in different ways.
Shakespeare expresses his love for his mistress through metaphors, typical of sonnets about love.
However, those comparisons describe his poor mistress through unpleasant ways, in distinct to
typical love sonnets. Poets usually describe the beauty of their lover through

Comment On Humanistic School Of Psychology
Comment on humanistic school of psychology.
Humanistic school of psychology gained importance in midst of 20th century. The limitations of
Sigmund Freud s psycho analytic theory and B.F Skinner s behaviourism formed the basis of
Humanistic school of psychology .
Humanistic psychologists start from the conclusion that every person has their own unique way of
understanding the world and that the things they do only make sense in this way. Consequently,
the kinds of questions they ask about people differ from those asked by psychologists from other
approaches. Whereas other approaches take an objective view of people, in essence asking about
them, what is this person like humanistic psychologists priority is understanding people s
subjectivity, asking what is it like to be this person As a result, they reject the objective scientific

Emollient Agents Make Our Skin Smoother Essay
Emollients
Emollients are agents that soften and make the skin smoother. They are also called moisturizers.
Emollients are used for dry skin or eczema. When a moisturizer is applied to skin, it covers the
skin with a protective layer that reduces the amount of water loss in the skin and prevents dryness.
Emollients also prevent the skin form itching and eczema from flaring up.
Are emollients, emulsifiers, and lotions polar or non polar?
Most lotions contain oil or other non polar ingredients. They also contain large quantities of water
which is polar. The oil in the lotion is emulsified so it can be mixed with the water. But, both
ingredients still remain in the lotion which makes it both polar and non polar. Emulsifiers are used

Many people buy lotions thinking that it has special ingredients that will help moisturize their skin,
but in fact water is the widely held ingredient in hand lotions.
Oil: oil is another important ingredient in hand lotions. Some lotions use liquid oils and others use
solid oils or butters. Avocado, coconut, Shea, and olive oils are some of the most popular oils used
in lotions.
Glycerin: it is also known as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also
used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth.
Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid
also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types.
Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc.
How do hand lotions work?
When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and
does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. It also
blocks water from leaving the skin and attracts water, this helps to maintain moisture in the skin.
The purpose of hand lotions
There are hand creams designed for different purposes. Most people use hand lotions for dry skin,
usually in the winter time. Lotions soften the hand and it looks more visually appealing. Some
people use lotions because they have eczema, and lotion prevents it from flaring up. Others may use

Motivation Techniques In Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans
In the movie Remember the Titans , there were many instances and techniques of motivation. These
some of the techniques included intrinsic vs. extrinsic, carrot/stick motivation.
The character in Remember the Titans that most exhibited the carrot/stick motivation technique was
the main character, Coach Herman Boone. Coach Boone used this technique early on in the movie
when the players were at camp at Gettysburg College. In an effort to force his players to
overcome their prejudice towards one another, Boone often offered both a carrot and a stick. As
a carrot, Boone offered the team a chance to come together and be a great team. To make history
as one of the first and successful racially integrated football teams in Alexandria Virginia both on
and off the field. This carrot also offered the players the opportunity to meet each other and
realize that other than being from different races, they had a lot in common. Along with the
carrot, Boone also implements a stick, in this case extra practices each day. He states, Until (the
players learn about each other), we go to 3 a day practices. You continue to ignore each other, we
ll go to 4 a day practices. This motivational structure was simple, come together as a team and

Improving A Successful Working Environment
Adaptability in the workplace is a necessity. In order for an employee to be successful, it is
imperative to remain flexible and accessible. Regardless of what your job title is, an employer
needs a well rounded individual with the desire to help the organization succeed by any means
possible. Maintaining a certain level of adaptability can help create a successful working
environment. Most job descriptions often include a phrase or two regarding the right of
management to add or rearrange responsibilities at their discretion. For many years, it has always
been the employee remaining flexible for the employer. The new trend in employment is slowly
shifting in flexibility. Not only are employees expected to be flexible, but the employers... Show

Working 9 to 5 became the way of life. Job duties stayed at work, while workers went home and
came back the next day to the same duties. Slowly, we evolved into a highly competitive and
highly demanding world that required more and more of the employees time in and out of
work. At some point, something had to give. That giving eventually came from the employer.
The flexible workplace began with a simple concept and basic structure. According to the U.S.
Department of Labor website on work hours (n.d.), A flexible work schedule is an alternative to
the traditional 9 to 5, 40 hour work week. It allows employees to vary their arrival and/or
departure times. Under some policies, employees must work a prescribed number of hours a
pay period and be present during a daily core time. While many believe this definition of
flextime to be the basis of flexible working, the flexible workplace trend is growing even beyond
that. The newest trends beyond flextime include compressing the workweek, allowing flexible
locations for work, job sharing, extended leaves of absence, phased and partial retirements, and
work/family programs. With an increasing amount of support, flexible workplaces are rapidly

Summary Of The Mother And It Rainy Last Night
The Mother (1963) by Gwendolyn Brooks and a video of a poem called It Rained Last Night: by
Jasmine Nicole Mann Alexis Marie.
The Mother and It Rained Last Night are both poems about abortion. They are similar with the
focus of conveying the emotional pain and anguish felt by the woman some unknown time after the
abortion.
The Mother is a dramatic monologue that starts out in second person language where the speaker is
speaking to an audience in the first stanza. The use of rhymes and the specific breaks in the lines
for dramatic pauses, along with purposeful commas to slow the flow, or no commas that make one
want to rush through the sentence, invoke powerful emotions of sadness.
The speaker starts with telling us how abortions will not let one forget and she goes on to expand
on what is not forgotten. She utilizes descriptive imagery such as in the sentence, the damp small
pulps with a little or no hair seems to infer to the status of the fetus s development when aborted.
She goes on to state the things that the children will not become and of all the things that as a
mother of young children will not experience. I appreciated the hyperbole in the last line of this
stanza, Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother eye, which seems to infer to the way
mothers tend to watch and cherish their children.
In the second stanza the tormenting emotions increase, and she starts speaking in first person and
addressing her own pain providing us details

Serfdom In Russia
In Russia, serfdom was a system under which the peasants were theoretically free tenants, but were
actually in a state of vassalage to, and dependence on, the landowners. Some people condemn
feudalism, stating that it was a corrupt system of labor as it exploited serfs, but without the use of
the serfs the entire economy of Europe would have suffered. Serfs were the foundation of the
economic system because they provided labor and goods to the entire kingdom. Serfdominfluenced
the Russian way of life and culture. The actual system set up in place for serfs goes more in depth
than just peasants working the property. The eventual emancipation of the serfs came about in
March of 1861, in the Emancipation Manifesto issued by Russian emperor Alexander... Show more

Serfdom in Europe can be drawn back to the 11th century. This type of feudalismtraversed
throughout Europe, decreasing in Western Europe around the 14th century with the
Renaissance but growing in Central and Eastern Europe, a spectacle sometimes known as later
serfdom . Serfs were lawfully required to dwell and toil at one place and to work on the land
possessed by their lord, who may perhaps be a nobleman or an ecclesial dignitary. They could
also be serfs of the state, working for the regime or in an institution such as a monastery. They
were allocated a small area of land to cultivate to support themselves and their families, but had
to make payments in produce and money to the lord from their own earnings. Social
establishments closely alike to serfdom were known in ancient times. The position of the Helots
in the primeval Greek city state of Sparta resembled that of feudal serfs, as did the state of the
peasant working on government lands in primordial Rome. Serfdom was legally a subservient or
unfree status that involved dependency upon a lord, significantly limited freedom of action in
terms of livelihood and residence, and subjugation to duties considered marks of servility. They
could inherit, own, and bequeath property. The lord s rights over their labor were restricted by
local custom and tradition. The Russian Law Code of 1649 was promulgated by Tsar

The Roles And Contributions Of Herodotus And Sima Qian
Although Herodotus and Sima Qian lived hundreds of years apart on opposite sides of the
planet, their respective impacts on their societies and humanity as a whole are tremendous.
Herodotus was born in 480 BCE in Halicarnassus, Asia Minor (now Turkey). His family was
wealthy, and immediately resisted the Persian rule after their conquest of the city, leading to his
exile on the island of Samos his first encounter with the trauma of war. He then wrote The
Histories, a work of massive scope that focused on reliability and thoroughness unlike anything
before it. Sima Qian was born in 145 BCE in Han ruled China. His father held the title Grand
Astrologer, a position concerned with preparing the yearly calendar. However, his father had
begun writing a grand work of history: at his death, Qian promised to finish the work in his honor.
The Records of the Historian, like The Histories, was revolutionary in that it covered far more
spatial and temporal ground than any prior Chinese work. Because their purviews were so vast and
recordings so comprehensive, Herodotusand Sima Qian s respective influences were felt throughout
their societies, thus facilitating their arbitration of moral judgment through interpretation of
historical fact. In crude terms, they understood that the what was inconsequential without the why.
Specifically, they saw their roles as interpreters as opportunities to become arbiters of moral
judgment: moral leaders. Their works, and thus their mechanisms of

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny
As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re
readings of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of
these authors texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee
Williams A Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout
the essay, she continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to
misunderstand the play itself. Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors,
actors, readers, and critics (Lant 227), she fails to see that it is she herself who finds ... Show more

Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he
gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his
character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished.
Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay,
has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it
is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact,
there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of
tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom
she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme
with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no
glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is
symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should
so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps,
to out Herodias Herodias.
After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor
for all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between

The Great Debaters Character Analysis
Many characters in the movie The Great Debaters shows qualities that any viewer could have.
They rapidly make a connection with the viewer, and make the movie that much interesting. It
brings the viewer back to a time where racism was at its peak, and African Americans struggle to
live a normal life without being harassed. Samantha Booke, Henry Lowe, and Mr. Tolson are
characters that stood up toe to toe against state Colleges to debate what was going on their
communities. Samantha showed persistence, Henry applied past knowledge, to the new
situation s, and Mr. Tolson was good at taking responsible risk. All three showed great habits of
mind to connect with the reader on a more personal level. First, Samantha Booke habit of mind is
persistence. She is persistence because she never gives up or gets unfocused on the topic she is
arguing about. She is always looking for ways to better her arguments and no matter what she
never gives up. One example is when she leaves the group the night before a debate, after watching
Henry kiss another girl, but the nest morning she is back and rejoins the group. This shows a lot

On How My Travel Experiences Changed My Views of Life
I thought I would discuss my travel experiences and how it has changed my views of life. I have
been to the Caribbean many times, for example, Cuba, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, St.
Maarten to name a few. I have also backpacked through Thailand and would like to discuss what I
have learned from a few of these countries and how these experiences have affected my perspective.
Travelling to Cuba for the first time was amazing. Having only travelled to Mexico once before
my first trip to Cuba I noticed a contrast in cultures even though my assumption was they would
be similar because they are both Spanish speaking. My first trip to Varadero was over 12 years
ago. I was informed that the locals valued tips of crayons, toothbrushes, razors, and toiletries, but
I was unsure why. I later realized it was because of the embargos, they had no, or very limited
access to, these items and many more. I remember going into Havana and while taking in the
breathtaking sights, being followed by many locals who were rubbing their arms. I had no idea
what was going on and was later informed that they were asking for soap. SOAP! I thought to
myself, not money or food, but soap? Something I had taken for granted my whole life. In my
many discussions with the locals I learned they were very educated, most of whom were doctors
and environmental or corporate lawyers. Education is free in Cuba and homes are also provided
for free, therefore, many Cubans go to University for many

To fully understand Savannah Horn s piece Until I Am Whole, I needed to conduct some

searching the Internet for information on Horn and her work, I was able to create an educated
list of the questions I wish I could ask her. Thanks to today s social media use, I was able to get
in touch with renowned Savannah Horn. To my luck, she was one of the kindest artists I ve met

After lengthy conversation, I found that my initially interpretation of this piece was closer than
I thought. To start off, Horn confirmed that this piece is considered a painting, even though it
does utilize certain sculptural elements. Her main inspiration for this piece was stained glass
windows seen in large cathedrals, which is where she drew her color scheme. Until I Am
Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea,
Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif,
which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with
many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up
of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. Savannah Horn wanted
to force the viewers to reach through the layers just as one is forced to sift through knowledge and
practice in order to glimpse at the truth of God. When I initially viewed this painting that was my
first reaction! I saw light beaming through the window, signifying the search and hope for God or
the truth. At this point, my interpretation of Until I Am Whole is comparable with the artist s

Student Republican Party Platform Essay
Preamble
The dawn of a new millennium is upon us and we, the Republican Party, are fully prepared to meet
the challenges that await us. This past century, due to the resilience and determination of the
American people, our country has experienced more growth and prosperity than any other nation in
recorded history. However, dark challenges threaten the moral fiber of this great nation. The past
eight years, under Clinton s leadership, the national government has lacked the fortitude to
effectively battle the dangerously extremist trends that have gradually forced their way into the
American culture. In order for America to be the great nation it once was, the Republican Party
must be in power.
The Republican Party has a vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this reduction we have rekindled the belief in the American dream. Economic prosperity and
sound moral and family values have begun to be reinstated in all arenas of American life.
We believe there should be less government intrusion in the lives of Americans because only the
American people can decide what is best for them. We stand for a rollback of federal government
paternalism and intervention and instead call for an increased roll of the individual and a
revitalization of the American tradition of entrepreneurial innovation. The rise of the Republican
Party to national prominence will allow us to realize these goals and restore America to its former
glory.
Federal Minimum Wage
We the Republican Party support the American workforce knowing that the future of the country
rests on a strong economy. To insure economic prosperity it is imperative that states have the
freedom to act accordingly to its economy. We as Americans, as workers, and as taxpayers should
seek to quiet the anxiety over labor and wages. We cannot be held to a standard that blankets the
whole nation when it is evident that each state is different. States must be allowed to evaluate the
conditions of their economy, unemployment, growth and other relative demographics and then
should have the ability to set the minimum wage.
The Republican Party strongly believes that government

The Effect Of Plasma On The Membrane Performance
Introduction When put under stress, at some point materials begin to decline and perform poorly.
Cell membranes are no different. The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for
the regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks
carried out by the cell membraneand endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical
stress, however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to
perform its tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between
membrane performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in
a 50% methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The
membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by
the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s
hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The
membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in
temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by
amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off,
and therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the
temperature the sample is put through, and the controlled variables

He was a close family friend and the teacher of Plato. He looked up to many philosophers as role
models which reflected on his knowledge and education. Socrates taught many students and was
able to pass down his knowledge on philosophy. Socrates told his students that the the
unquestioned life is not worth living (Stockdale 1). He is saying that if a person does not
question their life and is able to just live without questioning the society, then life is not worth
living. This influenced Plato to question society and state his opinions through his writings.
Socrates was mentioned in many of Plato s dialogues as the central character. Socrates was
convicted of treason by the Athenians and sentenced to death. His death was based on his attitude
and teachings. His death turned Plato away from democracy which then led to him on a path of
philosophy. Plato s philosophy forever changed Western ethical and political thought. Through his
philosophy, he was able to impact the morals of the people in the society. After the death of
Socrates, Plato was able to travel for about twelve years and journeyed Italy and Sicily to study
with other philosophers. When he was traveling, he learned Pythagorean mathematics and he was
able to be apart of the military again. When he returned to Athens, Plato founded a school titled The
Academy in about 387. This school was

extradition, European Convention on Extradition signed in 1957 serves for harmonization of
extradition relations and development of mutual assistance amongst European states. Under this
regional mechanism, states have to be more sensitive for human rights factor while extraditing
suspects more than ever. Article 11 of the European Convention on Extradition which excludes
extradition unless the requesting Party gives reasonable assurance that death penalty will not be
executed. Furthermore, the fact that this convention is unable to limit the political application of
political crimes which opens opportunities to abuse by subjects. The European Union Members
achieved to tackle this problem by signing the European Convention on the Suppression of
Terrorism which entered into force in 1977. Outside

Tic Disorder
Tic Disorder Nia D. Malcom Intro to Abnormal Psychology Atlanta Metropolitan State College
As stated by Chestin M. Berlin, having a tic disorder involves a wide variety of many disorders
including the most common, which is Tourette s syndrome. Tourette s syndrome is a neurological
disorder that involves having many vocal and motor tics. An individual is most likely to have it if
the tics last consistently for more than a year. (Berlin, 3, 1995). Several people have either motor
tics or only vocal tics. The first symptoms usually are unintentional movements of the face, arms,
limbs or trunk. These tics are frequent, repetitive and rapid. The most common first symptom is a

Western Views On Human Nature
Eastern Human Nature In our quest for wisdom, the question of human nature is still up to debate.
Many philosophers ranging from Socrates to Buddha has questioned the nature of human life and
of our existence. But these philosophers do not share the same beliefs about our nature. Their
beliefs are as different as their place of origin. Socrates own philosophy may not be the same as an
eastern philosopher such as the Buddha. In western philosophy there is often a focus on the
individual in the case of human nature. In eastern philosophy there are various interpretations of the
idea of human nature and our existence.
In buddhism the goal is to reach Nibbana, enlightenment. TO reach enlightenment one would,
according to Buddhist belief, is to get rid of beliefs that stem from ourselves and reality. The Four
Noble Truths represents the realities of nature that cannot be denied. The first truth is that life is
suffering. Meaning that to live is to suffer, it is not to say that the entirety of life is to suffer, but
that suffering is a part of life. The second truth is the desire for what is liable to birth, impurity,
decay, and death. All examples of suffering as a part of the normal course of life. The third truth is
that the elimination of the desire, as told by the second truth, eliminates suffering. Simply saying
that by removing these desires one also removes the origin of suffering. The fourth noble truth is
that to eliminate the desire, one must follow the Eightfold

The Reinvention of Retail through IoT
By Noopur Sane, Vishranth Chandrashekar and Aditya Lahoti
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term used to describe the growing number of smart and
connected products. It consists of physical things such as sensors which have the ability to collect
and share data. Predictions suggest that over 30 billion smart and connected devices will be in use
in the year 2020.
What are the avenues broadly where IoT could transform the retail sphere?
Inventory: Technology can undoubtedly revolutionize the retail backdrop. There are technologies
that can save any retailers from theft, cheating and evade inventory dysfunction.

For example, by analyzing video feeds Marketers can use visualizations to understand the impact of
different promotional displays or promotional signage and get a sense of how that s affecting
customer behavior in the store.
Applications of IoT is countless when devices, processes and people are integrated to form a
complete picture. Shoppers receive offers on their smartphones after communicating with beacons
(a low cost piece of hardware used to transmit messages or prompt to a smartphone or tablet), while
manufacturers and distributors receive alarms at dock doors when outgoing shipments are
incorrect, based on RFID readings.
Let us take a look at some of the industry use cases of application of IoT in retail:
Disney has RFID enabled MagicBand wristbands that provide theme park access, entry access for
guest hotel rooms, and cash and card free payment food and merchandise. All the activity in the
park is also tracked data that helps build a better picture of how guests use Disney services.
Online retailing giant Amazon is once again disrupting bricks and mortar retailing with the Dash
Button, a WiFi enabled device that is mapped to specific consumer packaged goods products like
laundry detergent. All that a consumer needs to do when the current supply is running low is to tap
the button stuck to the washing machine which generates an order, transaction and delivery of a
fresh supply of detergent.

Francis Bacon s En Dublin, Irlanda En 1909
Francis Bacon

No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By...
No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The
bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D
CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was
to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary EducationAct which included Title 1, a program for
disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized
assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must
perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for
educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them.
Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the
system receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students
were receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have
incorrectly claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation
noted, NCLB is neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal
education aid NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student
achievement, or that prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money.

The Chicano And Black Civil Rights Movement
A significant struggle during the Chicano and Black Civil rights movement was employment,
and discrimination in the workplace. First, a case pertaining to this issue during the Chicano
movement was Bernal v. Fainter in the year 1984. This was a case where the Supreme Court of
the United States В« ruled that the Equal Protection Clause prohibited the state of Texas from
barring noncitizens from applying for commission as a notary public.В» The result of this case
came about, as the court realized, that there is no requirement for a notary to be a citizen, but
the the only real necessity is that they follow the law. On the other hand, this case points out that
a noncitizen may be unable to become a police officer or any other type of government worker
that is required to В« act on behalf of the state and have considerable discretion in how the law is
enforced. В» Next a case relating to employment difficulties during the Black Civil rights
movement was Griggs v. Duke Power Company in the year 1971. The ruling on this case by the
Supreme Court was that Duke Power Company was В« discriminating against black employees,
В» because their qualification for employment did В« not pertain to applicants ability to perform
the job,В» but rather was influenced by other factors such as race, and therefore they were not
hiring people in certain racial

The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk...
Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In
The United States
In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on
the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum
C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic
has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United
States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular
disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers,
4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years
1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive
proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In
the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the
participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this
analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close
to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined.
The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients
had their blood pressure measured six times total (three in the home

The Impact of Derivatives on Cash Market

Markets: What Have We Learned? Abstract This paper summarizes the theoretical and empirical
research on how the introduction of derivative securities affects the underlying market. A wide
array of theoretical approaches has been applied to the question of how speculative trading, the
introduction of futures, or the introduction of options might affect the stability, liquidity and
price informativeness of asset markets. In most cases, the resulting models predict that... Show more

Turning to the introduction of option contracts, the non linear payoff structure of options adds
an interesting dimension to the problem, that has inspired much insightful theoretical research.
Still, no real consensus has emerged as to whether we should expect options to stabilize or
destabilize the underlying market. As in the case for the introduction of futures, the range of
theoretical possibilities is sufficiently broad as to accommodate nearly any conclusion, depending
on what assumptions are made. Nevertheless, it can be quite instructive to examine this literature
carefully, for in doing so we may gain valuable insights to help us gain a richer appreciation of the
complicated relationships between derivative and primary assets. The empirical literature on this
issue is vast. Studies have been performed on data from commodity, п¬Ѓxed income, individual
stock, stock index, and currency futures, as well as individual For earlier surveys related to this
topic, see Damodaran and Subrahmanyam (1992), Hodges (1992) and Sutcliffe (1997). 1 2 stock

characteristics before and after introduction dates, by studying the behavior of the underlying

Reading the content in this book made me get a picture of what it was like to be a colored
person in this time. My eyes were opened to the meaning of the word nigga . Nigga is such a
derogatory term, yet now a days it is used by people so much. Kids in this generation use it as a
term of endearment when they see their friends, or they say it when they are shocked by
something. Frankly, I don t believe they know how serious it really is. The fact that white people
could look at a person and see less than a human being when they did nothing wrong distresses me.
They (white people) treated them as if they were property and below them. Even though we don t
have racism to this extent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solomon was without work and needed to find a job to help support his family. He is over the
moon excited when he finds out that the job he took was not the job he signed up for. He was
drugged, kidnapped, and held as a slave. The way that it was spoken about when he first got
there made you understand that people turning slaves in by tricking them was not unheard of.
Brown and Hamilton promised Northup he would meet the circus in New York City, they
promised he d meet the circus in Washington D.C., they promised him high wages, they promised
a quick departure from Washington D.C., then postponed it, forcing Northup to stay longer than
planned in slave territory. These were all lies told. They even sat there and promised him safety
in slave territory, but when he was drugged and Brown and Hamilton disappeared leaving him
behind. He was a free man, rules are rules, and he should not have been taken. This however
shows you that people don t always play by the rules. However, it was very abrupt of him at the
same time. He needed money to support his family and because of that he didn t really look as
deep into the job proposition as he could have.
Perseverance and power of the human spirit is another theme that shows up when you are reading
this book. Solomon endured so much that he did not want to. At one point in the book, he was
forced to whip a fellow slave in front of others. He says in the book, 2 Ten years I toiled for that

Sports As A Form Of Leisure In Sports
Introduction For many people, attending your favorite NFL team s game or watching it on
television is a form of leisure. Many people view attending and watching NFL games as a source of
leisure as free time because it is a time frame within which you can make your own personal
choices about how to spend it and a source of leisureas recreational activity because it is based on
participation in nonwork activities...it is a recreational pursuit (Russell, 2017, p. 16). Additionally,
viewing a football game provides several qualities of leisure for many people, such as pleasure,
ritual, relaxation, happiness, and freedom.
Football can also be considered leisure as a spectacle. It provides entertainment for many people,
primarily the middle class, and is played in a large stadium with many fans in attendance.
Football is such a popular leisure as a spectacle experience that the NFL accounted for 46 of the 50
most watched broadcasts last fall and in 2014, 70% of TV owners watched some NFL football on
their sets at some point (Feldman, 2016, p. 38).
Many leisure activities that people partake in are dictated by situational factors and demographics,
such as gender. This is evident in football viewership, because ...men and women differ in their
exposure patterns to mediated sports. For most televised sports (i.e. football), men outnumber
women in the viewing audience (Gantz, W and Wenner, L, 1995, p. 60).
The social psychological constructs of perceived freedom and intrinsic

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Obama Speech Language of a Public Figure The opening of the speech is very clear and direct, setting a serious essence for the audience to appreciate the detailed fashion in which Obama will go on to explain the effects of Osama Bin Laden, America s actions, the assassination, and the important distinguishing of Islam and Pakistan from Al Qaeda. Obama is very profound for his use of emotive language; in this speech, he exemplifies this immediately. His use of antitheses opens with, a bright September day was darkened . He then goes on to take the spectators back to the tragic day of 9/11. He says, Hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky, the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground, black smoke billowing up from The Pentagon . These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He raises his voice with hints of anger when explaining how Al Qaeda was committed to killing innocents . This raises the antagonism of the viewing population as well, setting the mood just right for them to accept the justifying the war. Barrack Obama later adds that they, removed the Taliban Government which seemingly suggests the Americans did what they did nicely, as opposed to killing and torturing many of them, which they probably did. Obama then attempts to give good reason for his point, again, by adding that the Taliban Government had given safe haven and support to Al Qaeda. This justification convinces the American population that what their army was doing necessary as well as peaceful. When elucidating the assassination, Obama is sure to assert his role in affairs. This is initially made obvious when he switches from his habitual collective pronouns to speaking in first person. He opens with, I determined and then at my direction . This intentional change has the purpose of soaking up all the credit, indenting his mark in the history of the USA. He goes on to explain how it was the most significant achievement to date in our nation s effort to defeat Al Qaeda. This imperative description will turn out to be very significant for the re election in 2012. The use of the words, bring him to justice and took custody of his body also make the ... • 3. How Does Howard Fast Present Joseph Simmons Joseph Simmons A monster of a man with a heart of gold. This is how I picture Joseph Simmons from April Morning by Howard Fast. This book is about the first battles of the Revolutionary War. It is seen through the eyes 15 year old Adam Cooper. Over the period of a few days, Joseph Simmons goes from being a pretty flat character who is seen as the big, silent type, to stepping up and helping lead some attacks on the British. He goes from looking to others for approval to stepping up and finding his own voice. He also gains a son in Adam, when his father, Moses Cooper, is lost in the battle. Then I thought he d break my ribs, the way he clutched me in those blacksmith arms of his, and when he let go of me, I saw that the tears were pouring down his cheeks. (Fast #126) You can tell by that bit from the book just how kind he is, how much he cares, and how he is not afraid to show it. After the battle he also steps up to fill a hole in Adam s life, now that his father is dead. ...and then he took hold of my hands and told me, plain and quiet, that while nothing could ever replace Moses Cooper in my head, I could turn to him just as I would to a father. • 4. Hippolyta Plot There are multiple interconnecting story arcs in this play. The exposition of the story is when Hermia is on trial for defying her father s wishes, as well as when Duke Theseus proclaims his love to Hippolyta. The rising action is when the four youths run away from Athens, when the Mechanicals are introduced, and both groups encounter the fairies. The climax is when the four youths quarrel over the lovespells, as well as when one of the laborers has his head replaced with that of a donkey by Puck. The falling action is when the major human characters in the woods have their magical predicaments fixed by the fairies (the youths join into two couples, Bottom s head is restored to its normal condition). The denouement is when the Mechanicals put on the play for the Theseus and Hippolyta s wedding, and all of the conflict is resolved in each plotline.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Controversy Over The English Language Of The World The English language began its climb to world dominance with the rise of the British Empire in the 16th century. During this time English began to spread as the worlds lingua franca for business and trade. With the support of the United States, which at the time was one of the most successful nations in history, english was able to overthrow all previous lingua francas. However, english should not be considered as the gateway to the world . Although the english languageis widely spoken around the world, making english language the official language of the world will lead to diminishing cultural diversity. Intrinsic arguments describe the English language as providential, rich, noble and interesting. Such arguments tend to assert what English is and what other languages are not . As mentioned previously, notwithstanding that the english language is widely spoken around the world, diversity is important and for many individuals language is the basis of their culture. Functional arguments emphasize the usefulness of English as a gateway to the world . • 6. Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV /AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a substantial injury that mandates his blood be drawn. He is diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts AIDS), sending his life into a downward spiral of isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron that not only is he HIV positive, he ... Dick is a noble man who has dedicated his life to the health and protection of his beloved wife without thought to himself. Furthermore, he gives wonderful parties and is a reliable source of help to any friend in need. This desperately insecure need for external validation is characteristic of a prepubescent level of maturity which Dick surely should have overcome long ago. As his descent continues, Dick is even less convincingly able to act like the mature professional. He gets drunk more frequently and is involved in a violent fight with some taxi drivers, and later he inadvertently insults Mary North s in laws, showing he has lost some of his previously impeccable manners. Even his mentally ill wife can see the results of his behavior, telling him, You re a coward! You ve made a failure of your life and you want to blame it on me (301). Dick has seemingly given up on acting like a grown up and all of its difficulties in favor of a more immature, morally ignorant lifestyle. Not only does Dick Diver s longing for youthful innocence show in his own youthful behavior, but also in his attraction to much younger women, both paternally and sensually. Homelessness is a huge problem alone, but having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless, and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at home and 39% were sexually abused. Most Expensive IT Vulnerability Most Expensive IT Vulnerability: Ineffective Patch Management Right now, 37% of Internet users in the US are surfing the web with outdated versions of Java (CSIS, 2015). For organizations that have not paid close attention to cybersecurity in the past, now is your wakeup call. According to a recently released study, the average cost of a data breach in the United States has climbed from $5.9 million to a staggering $6.5 million per breach (Ponemon, 2015). This is enough to not only hurt many organizations, but also cause irrevocable damage to their economic standings. The purpose of this paper is to examine what the root cause for most of these breaches are. From a review of the largest breaches in the past 5 years, I have come down to this conclusion: Unpatched software is single handedly costing American organizations billions of dollars every year in expensive and embarrassing securitybreaches. What are Unpatched Applications? The first question you may be asking yourself is, What are Unpatched Applications? No application is perfect; this is a constant in the cybersecurity realm. Vulnerabilities, or holes within an application or operating system, will continue to be discovered. • 13. Sonnets In Shakespeare s Sonnets Sonnets are known for its rigid format and being the hoard of poets flowery love confessions and tormenting heartache. While most poets generally stick to that cliche topic of love and the traditional English or Petrarchan structures, sonnets are not defined by these archetypal features. Both Shakespeare s My mistress eyes are... and Collins s Sonnetsatirically defy those typical sonnets. However both poems differ, as Shakespeare follows the standard English sonnet style and parodies the classic subject of love to show how ridiculous and idealistic love sonnets can be; while Collins on the other hand, breaks free from those stern sonnet rules to joke about the strictness of sonnet structures to define typical sonnet rules. Shakespeare follows the English style of sonnets, while Collins partially follows the Petrarchan style. Both sonnets include fourteen lines, a defining feature of the sonnet form. My mistress eyes are... consists of three quatrains that describes his argument on love cliches, and ends with a couplet, the turning point of English sonnets. The sonnet consists of ten syllables each line, adhering to the rhythm of the iambic pentameter rule. Shakespeare s sonnet follows the usual rhyme scheme of an English sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg. Conversely, Collins attempts to stray from the general sonnet principles in contrast with Shakespeare. Sonnet loosely follows the Petrarchan style, as the lines are grouped into one octave, a stanza of eight lines, and one sestet, a stanza of six lines, in structure. Collins s Sonnet does not have a rhyme scheme, nor does the poem follow iambic pentameter. His sonnet does, however, present his turn in the beginning of the sestet, a recurrent feature of a Petrarchan sonnet. Collins begins poking fun at English sonnets in the octave, but then turns to joke at Petrarchan forms. Both sonnets have a lighthearted, humorous tone, yet the poems parody the classic styles of sonnets in different ways. Shakespeare expresses his love for his mistress through metaphors, typical of sonnets about love. However, those comparisons describe his poor mistress through unpleasant ways, in distinct to typical love sonnets. Poets usually describe the beauty of their lover through ... The limitations of Sigmund Freud s psycho analytic theory and B.F Skinner s behaviourism formed the basis of Humanistic school of psychology . Humanistic psychologists start from the conclusion that every person has their own unique way of understanding the world and that the things they do only make sense in this way. Consequently, the kinds of questions they ask about people differ from those asked by psychologists from other approaches. Whereas other approaches take an objective view of people, in essence asking about them, what is this person like humanistic psychologists priority is understanding people s subjectivity, asking what is it like to be this person As a result, they reject the objective scientific method as a way of studying people. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth. Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types. Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc. How do hand lotions work? When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. It also blocks water from leaving the skin and attracts water, this helps to maintain moisture in the skin. The purpose of hand lotions There are hand creams designed for different purposes. Most people use hand lotions for dry skin, usually in the winter time. Lotions soften the hand and it looks more visually appealing. These some of the techniques included intrinsic vs. extrinsic, carrot/stick motivation. The character in Remember the Titans that most exhibited the carrot/stick motivation technique was the main character, Coach Herman Boone. Coach Boone used this technique early on in the movie when the players were at camp at Gettysburg College. In an effort to force his players to overcome their prejudice towards one another, Boone often offered both a carrot and a stick. As a carrot, Boone offered the team a chance to come together and be a great team. To make history as one of the first and successful racially integrated football teams in Alexandria Virginia both on and off the field. This carrot also offered the players the opportunity to meet each other and realize that other than being from different races, they had a lot in common. Along with the carrot, Boone also implements a stick, in this case extra practices each day. He states, Until (the players learn about each other), we go to 3 a day practices. Regardless of what your job title is, an employer needs a well rounded individual with the desire to help the organization succeed by any means possible. Maintaining a certain level of adaptability can help create a successful working environment. Most job descriptions often include a phrase or two regarding the right of management to add or rearrange responsibilities at their discretion. Job duties stayed at work, while workers went home and came back the next day to the same duties. Slowly, we evolved into a highly competitive and highly demanding world that required more and more of the employees time in and out of work. At some point, something had to give. That giving eventually came from the employer. The flexible workplace began with a simple concept and basic structure. According to the U.S. Department of Labor website on work hours (n.d.), A flexible work schedule is an alternative to the traditional 9 to 5, 40 hour work week. It allows employees to vary their arrival and/or departure times. Under some policies, employees must work a prescribed number of hours a pay period and be present during a daily core time. While many believe this definition of flextime to be the basis of flexible working, the flexible workplace trend is growing even beyond that. The newest trends beyond flextime include compressing the workweek, allowing flexible locations for work, job sharing, extended leaves of absence, phased and partial retirements, and work/family programs. With an increasing amount of support, flexible workplaces are rapidly growing within the United States. Let s take a look at what flexibility in the workplace can mean. The Mother and It Rained Last Night are both poems about abortion. They are similar with the focus of conveying the emotional pain and anguish felt by the woman some unknown time after the abortion. The Mother is a dramatic monologue that starts out in second person language where the speaker is speaking to an audience in the first stanza. The use of rhymes and the specific breaks in the lines for dramatic pauses, along with purposeful commas to slow the flow, or no commas that make one want to rush through the sentence, invoke powerful emotions of sadness. The speaker starts with telling us how abortions will not let one forget and she goes on to expand on what is not forgotten. She utilizes descriptive imagery such as in the sentence, the damp small pulps with a little or no hair seems to infer to the status of the fetus s development when aborted. She goes on to state the things that the children will not become and of all the things that as a mother of young children will not experience. I appreciated the hyperbole in the last line of this stanza, Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother eye, which seems to infer to the way mothers tend to watch and cherish their children. Serfdom in Europe can be drawn back to the 11th century. This type of feudalismtraversed throughout Europe, decreasing in Western Europe around the 14th century with the Renaissance but growing in Central and Eastern Europe, a spectacle sometimes known as later serfdom . Serfs were lawfully required to dwell and toil at one place and to work on the land possessed by their lord, who may perhaps be a nobleman or an ecclesial dignitary. They could also be serfs of the state, working for the regime or in an institution such as a monastery. They were allocated a small area of land to cultivate to support themselves and their families, but had to make payments in produce and money to the lord from their own earnings. Social establishments closely alike to serfdom were known in ancient times. The position of the Helots in the primeval Greek city state of Sparta resembled that of feudal serfs, as did the state of the peasant working on government lands in primordial Rome. Serfdom was legally a subservient or unfree status that involved dependency upon a lord, significantly limited freedom of action in terms of livelihood and residence, and subjugation to duties considered marks of servility. They could inherit, own, and bequeath property. The lord s rights over their labor were restricted by local custom and tradition. The Russian Law Code of 1649 was promulgated by Tsar ... • 23. The Roles And Contributions Of Herodotus And Sima Qian Although Herodotus and Sima Qian lived hundreds of years apart on opposite sides of the planet, their respective impacts on their societies and humanity as a whole are tremendous. Herodotus was born in 480 BCE in Halicarnassus, Asia Minor (now Turkey). His family was wealthy, and immediately resisted the Persian rule after their conquest of the city, leading to his exile on the island of Samos his first encounter with the trauma of war. He then wrote The Histories, a work of massive scope that focused on reliability and thoroughness unlike anything before it. Sima Qian was born in 145 BCE in Han ruled China. His father held the title Grand Astrologer, a position concerned with preparing the yearly calendar. However, his father had begun writing a grand work of history: at his death, Qian promised to finish the work in his honor. The Records of the Historian, like The Histories, was revolutionary in that it covered far more spatial and temporal ground than any prior Chinese work. Because their purviews were so vast and recordings so comprehensive, Herodotusand Sima Qian s respective influences were felt throughout their societies, thus facilitating their arbitration of moral judgment through interpretation of historical fact. In crude terms, they understood that the what was inconsequential without the why. Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. That he gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished. Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias. After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between ... Until I Am Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea, Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif, which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for the regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks carried out by the cell membraneand endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical stress, however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to perform its tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between membrane performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in a 50% methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off, and therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the temperature the sample is put through, and the controlled variables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary EducationAct which included Title 1, a program for disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them. Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students were receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have incorrectly claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. First, a case pertaining to this issue during the Chicano movement was Bernal v. Fainter in the year 1984. On the other hand, this case points out that a noncitizen may be unable to become a police officer or any other type of government worker that is required to В« act on behalf of the state and have considerable discretion in how the law is enforced. Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The United States In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined. The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Many people view attending and watching NFL games as a source of leisure as free time because it is a time frame within which you can make your own personal choices about how to spend it and a source of leisureas recreational activity because it is based on participation in nonwork activities...it is a recreational pursuit (Russell, 2017, p. 16). Additionally, viewing a football game provides several qualities of leisure for many people, such as pleasure, ritual, relaxation, happiness, and freedom. Football can also be considered leisure as a spectacle. It provides entertainment for many people, primarily the middle class, and is played in a large stadium with many fans in attendance.
