The Bible And Forgiveness
What injuries to yourself from others would you find especially hard to get over or forgive? Explain.
The Bible says, Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ
God forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). I personally try to live by the Bible every day. Times do get
hard and certain circumstances hurt more than others, but we are all called to forgive one another at
the end of the day. Forgivenessand getting over a situation are, in my opinion, two separate acts.
Forgiveness should be given to all, but completely ignoring and disregarding the situation is not
appropriate. I have a hard time in trusting others; every person is broken and flawed, and although it
is not always meant to be intentionally hurtful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the longest relationship I had ever been in, and he was my first love. I don t give out
trust to many people, and he was the first person who I felt as if I could trust my life with. He
was able to gain all my trust and he held me in the palm of his hand. I thought we would last for a
long time and that we would never give up on one another. Whenever I moved, we were both
determined to keep our relationship alive and well until he could come down to Georgia to live.
He was soon to be enlisted. I had always thought highly of him, even when he was at his lowest.
I never thought bad about him or felt as if there was any reason for me not to trust him. Right
before he went off to boot camp I found out he had been cheating on me the last six months of
our relationship with many different girls who claimed to be some of my best friends. I was
hurt more than ever, and it was because I trusted that he would be faithful and that the girls
would have enough sense to not be involved in unfaithful acts with my boyfriend at the time. My
trust for both him and my friends were lost that day, and my heart ached of a pain that it had
never felt before. I couldn t breathe, and I did not know how I was going to go on with my life. No
person knew what to say to make me feel better. I blamed myself. I blamed myself for trusting
someone who did not deserve my trust. I did forgive him for the things he did to me, as I forgave
the girls he did it

The Effects Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho In The Horror...
The Effects of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho in the Horror Film Genre
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho is one of the foundational films in cinema, especially in the horror
genre. The film set new box office records around the world and received 4 OSCAR nominations.
The movie is characterized by plot simplicity, a small cast, new effects, and a handful of locations.
In the plot, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals 40,000 dollars from her employer to spend it with
her boyfriend and ends up in an isolated motel where she meets the proprietor, Norman Bates, who
ushers her in a friendly way. The young woman is later brutally murdered without an explanation,
turning the film into a mystery. The subsequent events indicate that Norman has been hiding a most
bizarre secret. A secret that, at the time, no one watching the film would have guessed. Since its
release in 1960, the movie has had a significant influence on film making and audiences alike.
Psycho changed the way movies worked by owning up to the notion that rather than existing as a
dream to be inhabited, movies are a game to be played. This paper will demonstrate just how
profoundly the movie Psycho has affected the film industry.
Tactical Changes in Video Production
Firstly, Psycho spearheaded one of the most decisive changes in censorship. Psycho was of movie
of many firsts, including the first movie in history to show a toilet flushing on screen. At the time
of its production, censorship rules referred to as Motion Picture

Beer Created In The Time Of The Sumerian Rudnick
HotWi6G (History of the World in 6 Glasses) Beer Questions:
By Christian Rudnick
1.Beer, created in the time of the Sumerians became a valuable resource, and was important in both
ritual and social standards. Hunter gatherers became so invested in the importance of beer that they
switched to farming, in order to maintain a steady and reliable form of grain and beer production.
This new found farming helped in food quality, as well as provide stable amounts of safe and
nutritional liquid to drink. Beer drinking societies had a considerable advantage over those people
to didn t drink beer.

water was not safe to drink, as well as that boiling and creating

Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman
Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to
revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are
the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor
Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and
atmosphere help provide this claim.
Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden
meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if
you pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story.
In the third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you
were to change music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear
and anguish they are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female
characters as a way to contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had
beans (Stanza 4). Little descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to
her and being grateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes
(Stanza 2) and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these
innocent people were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families
of the soldiers who have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal
imagery to drive their point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close
(Stanza 8) and they stripped us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10).
Both these literal images show what happened to these people and how they were

Cartridge Shooting Research Paper
Cartridge casings can be found a various types of crime scenes. These cartridge casings are then
examined to answer questions such as, what was the caliber of the firearm (i.e. 9mm, .308
Winchester), composition of the ammunition (i.e. brass, steel), shape (i.e. rimless, rimmed), the
position of the shooter, etc. Individual characteristics on cartridge casings that are useful in forensic
investigations include firing pin impressions, breech face marks, ejector marks, and extractor marks.
The various portions of the weapon that come into contact with the casings are firing pin, breech,
the ejector, the extractor, and the chamber. These parts leave their imprints on the fired casings
because of the great pressure on the cartridge when it s fired. The pressure is transmitted in ... Show

The cartridge is only fired if the firing pin strikes with a certain amount of force. So, it has to come
into contact with the cartridge to leave its impressions on the percussion cap. The firing pin strikes
the center ring of the cartridge and leaves a distinctive impression that is exclusive to the firing pin
of that particular gun. The clearness of the markings of the firing pin will depend on the pressure,
which is developed by the cartridge. Another identification method is using breech marks. When the
ammunition is fired, the explosion causes the bullet to get forced down the barrel and the cartridge
casing is forced back against the breech. The impressions that this leaves on the casing are unique
to the individual gun s breech. Examples of breech markings include vertical, sandblasted, mottled,
rime dents, etc. Also, when the cartridge casing is ejected from the chamber of the gun, it leaves
marks on the casing that are unique to those parts on the specific firearm. This includes markings
that are curved, diagonal, spiral, thin chamber marks, light ramp bulging,

Relationship Between Coriolanus and Volumnia in William...
The Relationship Between Coriolanus and Volumnia
The speech patterns of Coriolanus reveal the title character s psychological turmoil. Churning with
self doubt about his determination, his relationship with those around him, and his relationship with
his mother, Coriolanus is a man at the mercy of his environment. The environment that shapes
Coriolanus is the instruction he receives from his mother Volumnia.1 In his relationship with his
mother, Coriolanus plays the weak and subservient role. Volumnia s treatment of Coriolanus during
his childhood and later, when he is an adult, profoundly molds Coriolanus. Even when absent in
scenes, Coriolanus s mother acts as an invisible force, shaping Coriolanus s interactions with other

Volumnia, unlike the other women in the play such as Virgilia, does not recoil from war and the
battlefield. Instead, Volumnia both identifies with the war heroand delights in both his triumphs
and his pain. In describing the pride she would gain from her sons deaths in battle, Volumnia
separates herself from the other women in the play who want nothing to do with war, I had
rather eleven die nobly for their country than one voluptuously surfeit out of action. (1.3.20 21).
Thus the pride that Coriolanus derives from his own wounds and wounded body is a product of
his mother s pride in having a wounded son. Volumnia describes with pride Coriolanus s bloody
brow, Though you were born in Rome! His bloody brow/ with his mailed hand then wiping
(1.3.31 32). The pride that Volumnia procures from her son s victories and injuries winds up
reflecting itself on Coriolanus who describes these victories and wounds with equal pride. By the
end of the first act, Volumnia s descriptions of mothering demonstrate the warlike spirit she has
channeled into her raising of Coriolanus. The imagery she uses in Act 1 Scene 3 also separates her
from the other women in the play. Volumnia speaks of blood, swords, and death, while women like
Virgilia speak of sewing and butterflies.
Volumnia s speech patterns put her in the commanding position in her relationship with Coriolanus.

Brand identity and brand image are two distinct yet interrelated dimensions of brand building.
Brand identity entails the strategic efforts of firms to assign a brand with unique characteristics in a
bid to achieve positive perceptions by target consumers (Nandan, 2005).
The ingredients of a brand are the product itself, the packaging, the brand name, the promotion, the
advertising and the overall presentation. The brand owner assembles these attributes and blends
them in a unique way.
A key to enhancing the equity of a brand is the selection of an appropriate branding strategy.
Laforet and Saunders (1999) define branding strategy as the way companies mix and match their
corporate, house, family and individual brand types for their products or services. This mix and
match of brand types generates a variety of options for the companies from which they can select a
suitable branding strategy for a product/ service. Furthermore, McDonald et al. (2001) assert that an
appropriate branding strategy is crucial as it would reinforce the desired positioning and hence
influence purchase behaviour. Unfortunately, even the best brand managers have struggled to
choose the most appropriate branding strategy, in part, due to a lack of academic clarity and

Onion powder, different from onion salt, is made from dried onions that have been ground into a
fine powder. Though commonly confused, onion powder and onion salt are two very different
things. Both are made from dehydrated onions, but onion salt has one part salt to every five parts of
dehydrated onion. Contemporary versions typically utilize dried granulated onion and salt, and
usually include an anticaking agent (Wikipedia Onion Powder). Onion powder is significantly
healthier for you when consumed in small amounts, meaning that if you consume a large amount of
this powder, you receive too much of the nutrients and other health benefits it provides, making it
unhealthy. Some health benefits of onion powder is that it is rich in dietary

Building A Working Environment For A Small Coffee Shop Essay
Scenario
A property developer is converting an old railway station into retail and office accommodation.
The client is keen to make the working environment for the staff as comfortable as possible. As a
consultant, explain how this can be done by addressing the relevant grading criteria.
Introduction
I am hoping to convert this railway station into an office with a small coffee shop also in the
building. The railway station is very old and hard to heat, so there will have to be a large amount of
work done to make the building a nice place for people to work. There also isn t any lighting in the
surrounding area so I will have to think about that when I am contracting the building proposal. The
three factors that will have to be considered are Heat, Lighting and Acoustics, these are the main
things that will ensure comfort within the offices and corner shop if they are at the optimum level.
I will now work through the assignment and always think of the changes required to transform the
railway station into an office.
Task 1
Task A:
Identify and describe the basic factors that will influence human comfort in the retail office
accommodation in thermal, acoustic and visual terms.
There are three main factors that influence human comfort in the office setting, these are: Thermal
terms, Acoustic Terms and Visual terms. Thermal terms include the clothing of an employee or the
air temperature in the workplace. Air temperature is arguably the most important factor that

Johnson Tyco
Tax inversions have become a popular transaction among businesses in recent years. Alex
Molinaroli, CEO of Johnson Controls, Inc. talked about a possible merger with Tyco International
PLC., in the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this past week.
A Tax Inversion is a business transaction in which a company, typically residing in the U.S.,
merges with a foreign company and moves its corporate headquarters overseas while maintaining
its main operations in the U.S. for strategic purposes; specifically to take advantage of the lower tax
rules in the foreign country. Even though, this practice has progressively increased in the last two
decades, Congress is not so enthusiastic with the idea of corporations trying to avoid a ... Show

In addition, like any other merger between two firms, companies benefit from significant cost
synergy during the implementation of an acquisition and/or merger with other company. For
example, when two companies combine their strengths to complement each other, they restructure
their operations and as a result several offices and sites are closed down which leads to the laying
off of employees, consolidating services and software applications. All these changes, result in
synergy savings for the new company.
A tax inversion is considered a form of tax avoidance, not tax evasion. To provide clarity and
differentiate these two terms, tax inversion is simply a method that a U.S. corporation can use to
avoid paying higher taxes by changing their tax address to a foreign nation. This practice is
constitutional and therefore, legal (although many members of Congress are trying to pass laws
that would put restrictions on future tax inversions). An example of a tax inversion is Burger
King s acquisition of Tim Hortons Inc., a Canada coffee and doughnut chain. Burger King (BK)
moved its Miami based headquarters to Ontario, Canada which caused a controversy. BK saved as
much as 1.2 billion dollars. On the other hand, tax evasion by definition is the use of illegal means
to avoid paying taxes and involves and individual or corporation misrepresenting their income to the
Internal Revenue Service and is considered fraud. An

Analysis Of William Ernest Henley s Invictus
Can an individual s experience of and response to discovery catalyse their metamorphosis?
Discoveries can reaffirm, transform and challenge preconceptions and assumptions about human
nature, bringing about renewed perceptions that affect individuals and society. Through various
poetic techniques, William Ernest Henley s Invictus explores the three dimensional nature of
discovery, accentuating a successive revelatory self discovery as the persona overcomes seemingly
insurmountable adversities. We see the persona s internal transformation being reflective of Henley
s early contraction of tuberculosis, necessitating a leg amputationwhen he was 25. Trialling a
revolutionary antiseptic saved Henley s other leg from amputation. Today, I will be speaking about
the spiritual and emotional unearthing of inner strength, resilience and empowerment manifested in
the lyrical quatrains of Invictus , amplifying discoveries as being intensely meaningful and
transformative.
An unexpectedly adverse environment can stimulate the evolution of an individual s perspective,
precipitating an emotional paradigm shift. The hyperbolic simile and infernal allusion with Black
as the Pit from pole to pole illustrates the magnitude of the persona s indefinite suffering,
foreshadowing death and a bleak perspective on life with a melancholic atmosphere. We see the
personification in night that covers me , where night is metaphorical for the persona s suffering,
demonstrate the arduousness in surmounting unpredictable challenges, reinforcing the persona s
misfortune and its ramifications are perpetual. However, the plosive consonants with the alliterated
b , emphasising the bludgeoning, and metaphor in Under the bludgeonings of chance/My head is
bloody, but unbowed conveys you, me and the persona as prisoners of probability being bombarded
with challenges, highlighting the capricious difficulties and detriments affecting the individual.
Moreover, the visual imagery and caesura in My head is bloody, but unbowed suggests the
physically scarred persona will not submissively bow defeated, but will endure the bludgeoning,
accentuating the persona s emerging inner strength. It is clear to us the arousal of inner strength
contrasts

Introduction The Australian sea lion, Neophoca cinerea of family Otariidae is the sole extant
species of its genus and the only endemic pinniped found in Australian waters, ranging from coastal
Western Australia to Southern Australia (Kirkwood Goldsworthy 2013; Lowther et al. 2012).
Unique in its non annual, temporally asynchronous breeding cycle across adjacent colonies,
prolonged breeding and lactation period, extreme female site fidelity, and natal philopatry, the
Australian sea lion is thus considered one of the world s rarest non migratory otariids (Kirkwood
Goldsworthy 2013; Campbell 2005). The innate philopatry nature coupled with its geographically...

Although previous studies presented no concrete evidence to suggest a cause for this breeding
system, scientists hypothesise the cause to be linked to nutrient deficient environment accustomed
to Southern and Western Australian coastal marine (Campbell et al. 2008). While nutrient poor
marine environment demotes synchronized seasonal breeding as it fails to provide lactating cows
sufficient energy and nutrient for pups, it has been argued that the non annual breeding cycle
allows for longer maternal association to develop the neonates foraging abilities (Gales,
Shaughnessy Dennis 1994). This behaviour of nurturing young pups in developing unique foraging
strategies has been termed family farm hypothesis by Kirkwood and Goldsworthy (2013, p.61),
resulting in females developing stronger inclinations to return to their breeding site. This coincides
with studies that presented evidence where analysis of genetic structure revealed increased rates of

Here, Y. Denotes The Five Observed Indicators, Tau. Is
Here, y denotes the five observed indicators, au is intercept for each of the indicators, lambda is
the factor loadings, eta is latent variables and e is random measurement error for each of the

When comparing groups, the multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) method is applied,

In the results section, I am going to show the different measurement invariance models.
In order to determine whether national political trust (NPT) and supranational political trust
(SPT) can be regarded as two empirically distinct concepts, it is necessary to test a one factor
model encompassing all five indicators against the proposed two factor model shown in Figure
1. When examining the MGCFA models, different methods of assessing goodness of fit is
applied. First, the raw chi squared value for the model of interest is reported. However, it has
been shown that inferences based on the raw chi squared values tend to favour problematic
models when the sample size is small and reject sensible models when the sample size is large
(Hooper et. al, 2008). In this case, where the sample size is almost 30,000, it is expected that an
increase in model complexity will lead to a significant increase in chi squared value. Second, the
Comparative Fit Index (CFI) is reported, where values above 0.95 is considered good model fit
(Hu and Bentler, 1999). When comparing competing models, Chen (2007) suggests that a decrease
in CFI of less than 0.01 is acceptable. Finally, the two absolute fit measures, namely the Root Mean
Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) and Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR)
are used for model comparison.

Then in 1929, came the Great Depression. The cosmetics industry grew despite the depression and
Arden and Rubinstein continued to try and outdo each other. People still bought cosmetics because
they felt better buying whatever little bit of luxury that they could. This was also a time when
people felt that more expensive the product, the better it might be. This helped Arden and
Rubinstein create a huge margin for their products. In the 1930s, the Roosevelt Administration
levied 10% tax on luxury goods including cosmetics, but women still continued to buy make up.
After the Second World War, the cosmetics industry matured and became more competitive with
Revlon and Avon targeting younger women and becoming powerhouses. This was the time when
Arden and Rubinstein should have realized that younger women of the new generation didn t want
to be associated with their products as these were products that were used by their mothers. Both
the companies failed to evolve at that time and lost the plot with respect to business development.

3.11. Suppose that each of the following Update operations is applied directly to the database state
shown in Figure 3.6. Discuss all integrity constraints violated by each operation, if any, and the
different ways of enforcing these constraints.
e. Insert into DEPENDENT.
Answer: This operation is accepted and it can be successfully inserted.
g. Delete the EMPLOYEE tuple with Ssn = 987654321 .
Answer: This operation can t be used. Because Ssn has been used as a foreign key of WORKS_ON,
EMPLOYEE and DEPARTMENT relations ad deleting records with Ssn = 987654321 will leave no
corresponding entry for record in WORKS_ON relation. If we want to delete this data than we
need to delete it from all the tables.
h. Delete the PROJECT tuple with Pname = ProductX .
Answer: This operation can t be used. Because Pnumber has been used as a foreign key of
WORKS_ON relation and deleting record with Pname = ProductX will also delete product with
Pnumber = 1 . Since this value has been used in WORKS_ON table so deleting this record will
violate referring integrity constraint. If we want to delete this data than we also have to delete data
from corresponding tables.
i. Modify the Mgr_ssn and Mgr_start_date of the DEPARTMENT tuple with Dnumber = 5 to

Air Pollution and Global Warming
Air Pollution and Global Warming

Air pollution causes global warming through the greenhouse effect, according to the United States
Environmental Protection Agency. The greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases trap and
heat energy from the sun and prevent it from escaping Earth s atmosphere and entering space.
(EPA, 2012)
Atmospheric pollutions are caused by gasses and solid particulates released into the atmosphere.
The most hazard atmospheric pollutions are man made by the production of products. Pollutants
are released into the air include carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and sulfur dioxide.
Side effects from global warming can be apperceived across the globe. ... Show more content on

Animals commonly fall victim to acid rain which is created by sulfur in the air caused by the
burning of coal. Sulfur is conducted in vesicles of rain poisoning streams, drinking water supplies,
soil, and injuring wildlife.
Transportation modes, industrialization and power plants are also major sources of air pollutants
from human activities. Furthermore, natural causes contribute to air pollution. For example, volcanic
eruptions release large amounts of gases and particulate matter in the air, storms producing pollen
grains, and methane gas from marshes.
The US contains 4% of the world s population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide
emissions. By comparison, Britain emits 3% about the same as India, which has 15 times as
many people. (BBC, 2009) We, as Americans, must have strategies and solutions for reducing and
eliminating pollution and in turn global warming begin on an individual level. Each person must
first be responsible for his or her own action. For example, disposing of household chemicals
properly, recycling and living as energy as efficiently as possible are effective ways for individuals
to reduce pollution. Also, people should hold the federal government and local state governments
accountable for monitoring and mandating industrial company s actions. For example, the EPA is
responsible for constituting unassailable and equalizes clean air levels. In 1967, Congress passed
the Air Quality Act that set forth outlines for air

Issues and Challenges in Development of India
India as a Nation faces most of the issues this modern world has faced. It has the issues of the
developed nations like the USA and other European countries and at the same time problems faced
by the developing and underdeveloped countries in Africa and Asian continent. At the same time
with a diverse population in diverse geographical setting with large number of social and religious
issues, India faces issues of its own with unique kind of attention. In spite of these issues India s
progress with growth and development in recent decades has raised expectations to the extent that
some analysts have started predicting when India will outgrow China. Due to this expectation, the

India s progress in health and education between 1990 and 2010 lagged behind not only China but
also its South Asian neighbours like Nepal and Bangladesh as already discussed. The lack of
committed organizations to work as a catalyst between these services and people is still a problem
in developing India. India needs massive number of independent organizations to guide, criticise
and help to implement the public policies.
India s problems for sustainable and inclusive development are structural manifesting in governance
weaknesses as they are the pillars of all policy making and implementation. The outcome of several
corruptions in government mechanism in recent time, people are gradually losing the faith.
Government s inability in i) mobilising resources and boosting the supply side of the economy, for
example, through infrastructure development; ii) ensuring broad based improvements in education
and health; and iii) keeping growth reasonably inclusive and broadly shared have posed a threat to
the nation s development.
As the Infrastructure development remains a key constraint, the government s role remains
essential. India s government has long struggled to set aside enough money for infrastructure
investment. The past decade has seen improvement on this front, largely because of private sector
involvement. Also, political pressure to keep

Why Is The Catcher In The Rye Banned
Rationale: In Language and Literature, my class studied The Catcher in the Rye, a
controversial novel by J.D. Salinger. During the interactive oral, my group discussed the cultural
context surrounding the work and became aware that the book had an infamous history it had
been banned in many schools and libraries across America. Immoral statements, profanity of the
language and discrimination topped the list of reasons for the ban. An interesting point that
stirred my curiosity was how the novel has been implicated in the murder of John Lennon. The
murderer, Mark David Chapman had been influenced greatly by the novel. He was arrested at
the scene of the murder clutching a copy of The Catcher in the Rye so I have decided to explore
the implications of this event in the form of a newspaper article in the arts section of the New
York Times published one week after this tragic event on 15th December, 1980. A journalist for
the New York Times, Les Ledbetter broke the news on the front page on December 9th, 1980, the
morning after the murder. I ve taken on the persona of Les Ledbetter to promote a view that the
book should have been banned with my goal being to convince the readers of the New York Times
that this view needs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Allegory Of The Cave Essay
Allegory of the cave is an allegory written by Plato while in Greece in the Classical age. It
describes the concept of reality and enlightenment through the point of view of prisoners in a
cave. The allegory describes how the prisoners have been chained their whole lives and can only
see shadows. It describes how one of the prisoners is freed and goes outside and realizes how
everything he knew was a lie. He becomes enlightened and returns to the cave only to be met with
ridicule and resistance from the other prisoners. In the ВЁAllegory of the CaveВЁ, the author
attempts to teach us how people reject change and detest it through the use of imagery, moral
conflicts, and symbolism.
To begin, Plato uses imagery to convey the message that people reject change because they have ...

takes it in hand to free them from their chains and to lead them up, and if they could kill him, will
they not actually kill him ? This excerpt highlights the conflict that arises when the freed prisoner
tries to return and enlighten the chained prisoners. Once the freed prisoner returns, the other s reject

their way of thinking because they feel comfort. They do not want to take the risk going into the

Linking the Abolitionist Movement to the Textile Industry
Introduction
The abolitionist movement would never link to the textile industry if the subject of slave labor
were not the cotton grown in the southern part of the United States. Later on, slaves from the
south found new owners in the middle states that embraced cotton growing (Ferrell, 2006). The
development of commerce created a dependence of slave labor because cotton was the raw
material for textile mills that supported the industrial cities that were around Boston. Beyond the
direct labor of slaves in picking and putting cotton in bales for shipment, other laborers also faced
slavelike conditions in the industrial mills where they toiled under grueling conditions (Porterfield,
2006). The quest to free factory workers and the desire of the workers to have a better say for their
involvement in the industry became an obvious attraction to the quest of the abolitionists.
The Slave Connection to the Textile Industry
When southerners confronted the issue of abolition of slavery, some thought it was unacceptable,
others were not so sure of the way forward, and some of them actually went ahead and freed their
slaves. The southern economy depended on cotton and benefited mostly from the cheap and
efficient slave labor. Many thought that whites would not want to work in the farms, even after
they were paid. The payment itself would become a significant cost to the southern economy and
hamper their profit margins already enjoyed with the slavery boom.

Description Of The Play In Othello
Othello: A 17th century soap
The play Othello was written by William Shakespeare and first performed in 1604. It tells the
story of a group of people who are entangled in a complex web of relationships and try to work
out the dynamics of their tiny society. This brings forth a load of drama that plays directly into
hands of the villain of the story: Iago. He carries a huge grudge against the main character: Othello.
The storyline in this play is so dramatic and complicated it can be compared to a television soap
nowadays. The main characteristic of a soap is: an emphasis on family life, personal relationships,
sexual dramas, emotional and moral conflict. In my opinion the setting of the play, the relationships
within and Iago s role contribute to making Othello 17th century television soap.
First of all, the setting of Othello greatly contributes to the dramatic storyline. In a modern soap,
the circumstances force the characters to face each other. For example, the characters usually form
an intimate group, like a family or close group of friends. In real life they would have ... Show more

exactly clear what the reason is. It is mentioned that Othello promoted Cassio instead of Iago to
lieutenant but does not legitimate Iago s aversion in my opinion. It seems this hate is mostly
used to give Iago a motive to come up with a revenge plot and thereby create an interesting story.
All characters are influenced either directly or indirectly by Iago and this way all events are
orchestrated by the Moor Slayer . This becomes visible in the many soliloquies Iago has in the
play. A good example takes place in the third scene of the first

The Success Of The Mcdonald s Corporation
Around 95 percent of American households have a television, and with that 95 percent the
average american home will have at least one television turned on for around 7 hours according
to the group TV Free America. They also state that a child will watch around 20,000
commercials a year. But that is just commercials there are also posters and ads on the radio as
well, meaning that you cannot escape the overwhelming amount of advertisements out there.
Not only are there thousands of commercials being seen each year, but also there are certain
ways as to how these commercials are designed and delivered. We give these very little thought
but the companies slogans seem to stick to us like glue. In 1955, a man by the name of Ray
Kroc founded the McDonald s Corporation. He bought the name rights from brothers Dick and
Mac McDonald. Kroc took this small restaurant and turned it into one of the most well known
companies in the world. By the end of 2008 Mcdonald s had grown to 31967 locations in 118
countries. With 58 million customers a day worldwide its hard to not see a McDonalds ad
around. ( James) People know that fast food is not good for the body but if it is fast, tastes good,
and cheap people will buy it. Thats because in this day and age most people are employed and don
t usually have time to sit and eat a nice lunch, so instead they turn to fast food and with McDonalds
continuously growing popularity that is what we think about first if we need food and fast.

The Role Of Hierarchy In The Early Church
As the early church expanded some teaching weren t clear that they were the word of God. One
of the teaching is apostolic succession. Hierarchy is a system or organization in which people or

beliefs were passed down the ministry by popes and bishops. Many of these belief include the
canon, eucatist, hierarchies and etc. In order to find out what the was really said back then we must
go back to the early church fathers and read their manuscripts. In Matthew 16:19 Jesussays I will

Platos Republic Essay
Plato s Republic
Critics of The Republic, Plato s contribution to the history of political theory, have formed two
distinct opinions on the reasoning behind the work. The first group believes that The Republic is
truly a model for a political society, while the other strongly objects to that, stating it as being far
too fantastic for any society to operate successfully by these suggested methods. In an exchange
between Crito and Dionysius, this argument is first introduced, with Crito siding with those who
agree that The Republic is a realistic political model, and Dionysius arguing on behalf of those
who doubt it as being realistic, claiming it to be a criticism of politics in general. ... Show more

In his fifth chapter, entitled The Problem Stated, Plato introduces what he believes to be wrong with
the current system of politics (Plato 41).
He starts by describing the Social Contract theory (Plato 53), the method used during his time, a
method Plato rejected. It says:
all the customary rules of religion and moral conduct imposed on the individual by social sanctions
have their origin in human intelligence and will and always rest on tacit consent. They are neither
laws of nature nor divine enactments, but conventions which man who made them can alter, as
laws are changed or repealed by legislative bodies.
It is assumed that, if all these artificial restraints were removed, the natural man would be left only
with purely egotistic instincts and desires, which he would indulge in all that Thrasymachus
commended as injustice (Plato 41 42).
In response to this description, Plato wrote,
First, I will state what is commonly held about the nature of justice and its origin; secondly, I shall
maintain that it is always practiced with reluctance, not as good in itself, but as a thing one cannot
do without; and thirdly, that this reluctance is reasonable, because the life of injustice is much the
better life of the two so people say. That is not what I

Kahnemen s Business Model
As online modes of payment threaten the traditional model, dealerships should adapt sales
strategies to build trust with customers. The data shows that people are apprehensive about
going into dealerships but do like being able to see the car in person where they can ask
questions easily. Management policies should reframe themselves to eliminate short termism.
This is a common tragedy seen in many firms. Thaler (p188) was teaching a class on decision
making to a group of executives, he asked the group if they would undertake a project with a 50%
risk of losing one million dollars and an equal chance of gaining double. Only three of the twenty

Behavioural economists and psychologist alike have long experimented with framing, the way
in which an offer is put in context matters in a world in which people are prone to bias. Framings
role in marketing is perhaps best explained through prospect theory, a term described by
Kahnemen. Groups were given a choice of either getting $900 for sure or a 90% chance of
getting $1000. The majority chose the safer option of $900 since people are generally risk
averse. The second problem was a choice between losing $900 or a 90% chance of losing $1000,
in this situation the majority took the risk. The lesson here as Kahnemen describes is that losses
loom larger than gains . Similar experiments by () have shown that people will only risk losing
money if they have an equal chance of gaining twice that amount. So, when it comes to the
discussed anchor price firms should instead set retail prices which include all extras or perhaps a
range of prices rather than a single number for a vehicle. This means that consumers will have that
higher number or range as an anchor by which they negotiate with. If salesmen fail to convince the
customer to buy a certain extra they can revert to the default price. This makes the customer feel as
if they are gaining more as they are giving up less than the retail price.
Competition and pricing Pricing plays a key role in the

Who Is Andrew Jackson Democratic Dbq
Andrew Jackson was the president from 1829 to 1838. He was commonly known as the President
of the People. Some Americans criticize that Jackson was an undemocratic leader, however
Jackson should be seen as someone who stood for the principles of democracy. To be democratic
means to revolve decisions and actions around the people, citizens and noncitizens. Jackson was a
hero of democracyin early American because he increased the power of the people, put the people
first, and supported minorities.
Andrew Jackson was democratic because he increased the power of the people. In a map and
graph displaying voting rights and turnouts in 1800 and 1830, the visuals show that voting
increased for the white man. Also that after Jackson loss the election, the south had the ability to

The Epistemological Perspectives Of Positivism And Social...
1.The epistemological perspectives of positivism and social constructivism can often be seen as
direct opposed views on knowledge. A positivism approach involves accepting knowledge of
things that have been verified by the scientific method of formation and testing (Pool, 1999, Pg.

Karl Popper, brought new ideals to this approach by making light on the fact it is not possible to

provide you with long term approximations for knowledge. (Pool, 1999, Pg. 92). The social

In the first stanza of there are two quotes which suggest the poem is referring to a German
concentration camp. The first quote comes from the Hamburger translation, he writes when dusk

Benefits Of Using Cds Used For Hedging Purposes
Banks are classified as users or non users of CDS based on a search of their annual reports for
information about the use of CDS. To search the reports, I have searched for key terms and
expressions that indicate the use of CDS such as CDS, credit default swap, and credit default
contract. Appendix (C) shows the complete list of the banks classified as CDS user or CDS non
user, and their market capitalization.
The CDS users represent 50% of the sample and the other half are nonuser. The selected sample
will be used to test two main aspects: 1) The effect of the CEOs risk taking incentives on CDS
use by distinguishing between CDS use for hedging purposes and CDS use for trading purposes;
and 2) How the CDS use impacts the firms risk by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2002 the European Union agreed that from January 2005 international accounting standards
/international financial reporting standards (IASs/IFRSs) would apply for the consolidated
accounts of the EU listed companies (Barth, Landsman, and Lang, 2008). Starting from 2005, IAS
/IFRS adoption has been mandatory in all the member states of the European Union with the
ultimate goal of increasing transparency in financial reporting. This adoption of IAS/IFRS
therefore represents an extraordinary event for empirical research because evidence shows that the
mandatory adoption of IAS/IFRS in Europe results in better quality of financial reporting. In fact,
empirical studies provide some support to the notion that adopting IAS/IFRS improves the quality
of financial reporting and of public information (Palea, 2013).
3.1.4Data sources
In this thesis, secondary data is used to answer the two research questions. The data have been
collected from two main sources: bank s annual reports and Datastream. Following the approach of
many prior empirical studies the data on CDS and derivative are hand collected from banks annual
reports (e.g., Allayannis and Ofek, 2001; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Supanvanij and Strauss,
2010).
Unlike US firms, compensation data for European companies are not readily available in

Catcher In The Rye Childhood Essay
In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger Holden shows that he is still acting like a
child when he is supposed to be an adult. Holden fights through his teenage life because he
cannot accept the duties of growing up. He always uses the word phony to show his depression
and uncaring. Holden thinks his two younger siblings as if they were perfect. Holden is into
childhood because he chooses to be stuck between a world of still being a child or moving on to
adulthood. Holden is a teenager who refuses to grow up because he is afraid of gaining the
responsibilities that come with it. So, Holden struggles hard to stay childish. He does not want to
take responsibility to communicate with others that may want to help him. The new elevator... Show

When Holden is writing the composition for Stradlater, he states many amazing things about
Allie, His teachers were always writing letter to my mother, telling her what a pleasure it was
having a boy like Allie in the class (pg. 38). Teachers wrote letters on how good Allie was in class
and how intelligent he is. As a kid most teachers thought you were a good student, but since
Holden thinks everything is phony and a waste of time he never got any nice letters. When
Holden was in his hotel room, he explains what Phoebe is like, I mean she s had all A s ever since

The Big Dipper
The best story that I ever heard would be about how the Big Dipper became to be. I chose the Big
Dipper because it s the only story that I like that I heard. The story that IВґve heard about the Big
Dipper is the Cheyenne Story. In the Cheyenne version, there are seven brothers, they all take care
of one another. They live by themselves, not in a village or near one. The youngest brother is
probably about nine or ten years old, and the oldest brother is probably around twenty or twenty
one. Now, besides the brothers, there is another main character. This character is their ВЁsisterВЁ,
she was having visions of meeting them, so she set off to find them. This storyВґs setting was set
back a long time ago before there were boarding schools. The sister packed and went off to find
her brothers. She had made them nice clothes to wear. She had brought her dog... Show more

So when the sun was just about to go down you could feel the rumble of the ground shake.
Almost as if it was an earthquake. The buffalo bull had brought his whole herd, the herd
surrounds the brothers and the sister into a circle. The brothers moved close to a tree, and the
sister followed. The buffalo had spoken to the sister and said, Now that I brought my people
here, would you marry me? Again the sisters answer was no. So the bull got angry and started to
charge at the girl. Right before the bull could get her the brothers grabbed her and they climbed
up to the top of the tree. When the bull saw them pull her up, he started hitting the tree with all
his might, shaking it, as if it was the tree was going to fall over. Just as they reached the top and
could not go any further, the tree started to grow. It grew so far up that when they looked down,
they could see everything. The tree took them up into the sky, and when they started to appear
towards the clouds they dismounted off the tree, and they all stood there looking at each

Tragic Comedy In Catch-22
You can t stop flying unless you re crazy; you cannot not stop flying if you re sane; and the only
people who want to fly are crazy. This absurd logic, hilarious at first, is the root of Catch 22, and
is but one such absurd joke among many in the book. In Catch 22, Joseph Heller employs comedy
to illustrate how initially comical characteristics can, when pulled to the extremes, lead people to
enact cruelties. Many of the most memorable moments of Catch 22 are indisputably hilarious. One
such example is Colonel Cathcart, an indecisive squadron leader obsessed with his own self
image. Plagued by constant doubts about his every choice, Colonel Cathcart oscillates rapidly and
randomly between relying on his subordinate Colonel Korn for advice... Show more content on

In retrospect, Colonel Cathcart s blatant goalpost manipulation isn t funny anymore once you
consider that all the deaths it causes had no other reason than pointless posturing. In fact, upon
seeing its results, his actions are sickening. When has it ever been funny to give soldiers hope of
returning home just to snatch it away? Why were we laughing at this tragedy? The darker
implications of Cathcart s actions reflect twistedly on the humor of those first scenes. These
cherished, humorous moments of the book cannot be laughed at anymore without a sense of
unease. This evolution of scenes is especially clear with the novel s name. The Catch 22 in the
beginning is but a series of elaborate and absurd paradoxes. Yossarian cannot go home until he
reaches the required number of missions, but the required number of missions always increases.
It s impossible to enter Major Major s office if he s in it, but you can talk to him in his office
when he s not in the office. The initial uses of Catch 22 is that of a comedic device that revels in
the absurdity of the world. Our ability to twist logic for our own means entertains us in the novelty
of what can result from it. As the book draws to a close, however, Catch 22 starts being used with a
distinctively different connotation, shown when Yossarian escapes to Rome. There, upon entering

How Did The Internet Change Our Mental Wellbeing
The internet is possibly the greatest invention ever made. It has changed the way we
communicate, how businesses operate, and how communities function. It has led to many
inventions that have made life more comfortable and simple. It is easy to see how quickly the
internet has changed our physical wellbeing, but it is difficult to recognize how it has slowly been
changing our mental wellbeing. Everyone has a cellphone regardless of age or wealth. This means
it is impossible to escape the internet at home, school, or work, because it is in our very pocket.

The Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials
Introduction
The Salem Witch Trials were started after a group of three girls started to have fits, and were
accused of being possessed by the devil and performing witchcraft. One of the girls, Tituba a
Caribbean slave, had confessed that she had encountered the devil in a dream and the devil had
requested her to serve him. The Salem Witch Trials had caused mass hysteria throughout
Massachusetts, but once the governor s wife had been accused of witchcraft the governor had
stepped in to put a stop to the Salem Witch Trials.
Conflict
The Salem Witch Trials began after a group of three girls became sick in 1962. These girls
started to have fits, which included throwing things, moving into weird positions and screaming.
The local doctor blamed this ailment on supernatural and accused the girls of being possessed
by the devil. Tituba, a Caribbean slave, admitted to being possessed by the devil after he
appeared in one of her dreams asking her to do his bidding, but neither of the two other girls had
confessed to being possessed by the devil even after Tituba had.
During the Salem Witch Trials, 20 people and even two animals were killed. Most people
believe that people that were accused of being witches were burned at the stake during The
Salem Witch Trials, but contrary to popular belief not a single person was killed by being burnt
at the stake. Most of the people killed during the Salem Witch Trials were actually killed by being
hanged on a hill that is now known as Gallows

If nothing is done to address the cause of the problem, the symptoms will continue to recur and

John Marshal s Life and Work
Confucius said, May you live in interesting times. John Marshall, fourth Chief Justice of the United
States Supreme Court certainly did, from witnessing the birth of our country, to serving as the
longest tenured Chief Justice in Supreme Court History. In a span of just under two years, he went
from serving as a member of Congress, representing Virginia s 13th District, to serving as the
nation s fourth Secretary of State, to being appointed the fourth Chief Justice of the United States
Supreme Court, January. It Begins John Marshall was born in 1755, the oldest of 15 children born

Marshall started changes at his swearing in ceremony by wearing a plain black robe, instead of
the more common scarlet ermine trimmed robes favored in the past, that were reminiscent of
British judges. Another change he made was having all the justices stay in the same boarding
house while not in court. His reasoning was that in doing so it would instill a comradeship
among the justices and give them time to discuss cases in private away from the court. His
biggest change was to stop the tradition of each justice issuing a separate opinion. Marshall felt
that by issuing one unanimous opinion, it would have more effect, leaving no doubt as to the
outcome, It is the opinion of this Court... Marbury V. Madison (1803) This case has its origin in
the Federalist defeat in the 1800 elections when they lost control of the House, Senate, and the

Congress passed the Judiciary Act of 1801 which re organized the District Courts, stopped the
Supreme Court members from riding circuit, reduced the Supreme Court from six members to five,
at the next vacancy, and established16 new federal judgeships that could be filled by outgoing
Federalist President, John Adams. President Adams nominated loyal Federalists to the new

The Importance Of Informed Consent
What is informed consent and when, why and how must the physician obtained this consent? From
the Medicine Net they defined Informed Consent as The process by which a patient learns about
the procedure, understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical
intervention, including clinical trails, and then agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the
trial. Informed consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement
confirming that they understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment.
Informed consent needs to be obtained by the physician when a procedure with anesthesia is used,
if the patient is undergoing any type of surgery, a procedure that is entering the body through the
skin or through a body cavity, or if the patient is asked to be in a clinical research trial. This type
of consent is necessary so the patient and the physician are both on the same page of the patient s
understanding and willingness to participate in the procedure. It is also for the patient to know their
right to stop the procedure before or during the procedure. It also informs the patient that if they do
not want the procedure they have alternatives they can choose from.
The American Medical Association describes the 8 steps on how to obtain Informed consent, as:
The Physician informs participants about (1) the purpose of the procedure, expected duration and
procedures; (2) their right to decline to participate and

Rome in 68 A.D. (II Tim. 4: 6 8,16 18). John supposedly lived and labored in Ephesus during his

  • 2. The Bible And Forgiveness What injuries to yourself from others would you find especially hard to get over or forgive? Explain. The Bible says, Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). I personally try to live by the Bible every day. Times do get hard and certain circumstances hurt more than others, but we are all called to forgive one another at the end of the day. Forgivenessand getting over a situation are, in my opinion, two separate acts. Forgiveness should be given to all, but completely ignoring and disregarding the situation is not appropriate. I have a hard time in trusting others; every person is broken and flawed, and although it is not always meant to be intentionally hurtful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was the longest relationship I had ever been in, and he was my first love. I don t give out trust to many people, and he was the first person who I felt as if I could trust my life with. He was able to gain all my trust and he held me in the palm of his hand. I thought we would last for a long time and that we would never give up on one another. Whenever I moved, we were both determined to keep our relationship alive and well until he could come down to Georgia to live. He was soon to be enlisted. I had always thought highly of him, even when he was at his lowest. I never thought bad about him or felt as if there was any reason for me not to trust him. Right before he went off to boot camp I found out he had been cheating on me the last six months of our relationship with many different girls who claimed to be some of my best friends. I was hurt more than ever, and it was because I trusted that he would be faithful and that the girls would have enough sense to not be involved in unfaithful acts with my boyfriend at the time. My trust for both him and my friends were lost that day, and my heart ached of a pain that it had never felt before. I couldn t breathe, and I did not know how I was going to go on with my life. No person knew what to say to make me feel better. I blamed myself. I blamed myself for trusting someone who did not deserve my trust. I did forgive him for the things he did to me, as I forgave the girls he did it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho In The Horror... The Effects of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho in the Horror Film Genre Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho is one of the foundational films in cinema, especially in the horror genre. The film set new box office records around the world and received 4 OSCAR nominations. The movie is characterized by plot simplicity, a small cast, new effects, and a handful of locations. In the plot, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals 40,000 dollars from her employer to spend it with her boyfriend and ends up in an isolated motel where she meets the proprietor, Norman Bates, who ushers her in a friendly way. The young woman is later brutally murdered without an explanation, turning the film into a mystery. The subsequent events indicate that Norman has been hiding a most bizarre secret. A secret that, at the time, no one watching the film would have guessed. Since its release in 1960, the movie has had a significant influence on film making and audiences alike. Psycho changed the way movies worked by owning up to the notion that rather than existing as a dream to be inhabited, movies are a game to be played. This paper will demonstrate just how profoundly the movie Psycho has affected the film industry. Tactical Changes in Video Production Firstly, Psycho spearheaded one of the most decisive changes in censorship. Psycho was of movie of many firsts, including the first movie in history to show a toilet flushing on screen. At the time of its production, censorship rules referred to as Motion Picture ... • 5. Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help provide this claim. Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if you pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story. In the third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you were to change music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear and anguish they are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female characters as a way to contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had beans (Stanza 4). Little descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to her and being grateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes (Stanza 2) and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these innocent people were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families of the soldiers who have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal imagery to drive their point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close (Stanza 8) and they stripped us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10). Both these literal images show what happened to these people and how they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cartridge Shooting Research Paper Cartridge casings can be found a various types of crime scenes. These cartridge casings are then examined to answer questions such as, what was the caliber of the firearm (i.e. 9mm, .308 Winchester), composition of the ammunition (i.e. brass, steel), shape (i.e. rimless, rimmed), the position of the shooter, etc. Individual characteristics on cartridge casings that are useful in forensic investigations include firing pin impressions, breech face marks, ejector marks, and extractor marks. The various portions of the weapon that come into contact with the casings are firing pin, breech, the ejector, the extractor, and the chamber. These parts leave their imprints on the fired casings because of the great pressure on the cartridge when it s fired. The pressure is transmitted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cartridge is only fired if the firing pin strikes with a certain amount of force. So, it has to come into contact with the cartridge to leave its impressions on the percussion cap. The firing pin strikes the center ring of the cartridge and leaves a distinctive impression that is exclusive to the firing pin of that particular gun. The clearness of the markings of the firing pin will depend on the pressure, which is developed by the cartridge. Another identification method is using breech marks. When the ammunition is fired, the explosion causes the bullet to get forced down the barrel and the cartridge casing is forced back against the breech. The impressions that this leaves on the casing are unique to the individual gun s breech. Examples of breech markings include vertical, sandblasted, mottled, rime dents, etc. Also, when the cartridge casing is ejected from the chamber of the gun, it leaves marks on the casing that are unique to those parts on the specific firearm. This includes markings that are curved, diagonal, spiral, thin chamber marks, light ramp bulging, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Relationship Between Coriolanus and Volumnia in William... The Relationship Between Coriolanus and Volumnia The speech patterns of Coriolanus reveal the title character s psychological turmoil. Churning with self doubt about his determination, his relationship with those around him, and his relationship with his mother, Coriolanus is a man at the mercy of his environment. The environment that shapes Coriolanus is the instruction he receives from his mother Volumnia.1 In his relationship with his mother, Coriolanus plays the weak and subservient role. Volumnia s treatment of Coriolanus during his childhood and later, when he is an adult, profoundly molds Coriolanus. Even when absent in scenes, Coriolanus s mother acts as an invisible force, shaping Coriolanus s interactions with other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volumnia, unlike the other women in the play such as Virgilia, does not recoil from war and the battlefield. Instead, Volumnia both identifies with the war heroand delights in both his triumphs and his pain. In describing the pride she would gain from her sons deaths in battle, Volumnia separates herself from the other women in the play who want nothing to do with war, I had rather eleven die nobly for their country than one voluptuously surfeit out of action. (1.3.20 21). Thus the pride that Coriolanus derives from his own wounds and wounded body is a product of his mother s pride in having a wounded son. Volumnia describes with pride Coriolanus s bloody brow, Though you were born in Rome! His bloody brow/ with his mailed hand then wiping (1.3.31 32). The pride that Volumnia procures from her son s victories and injuries winds up reflecting itself on Coriolanus who describes these victories and wounds with equal pride. By the end of the first act, Volumnia s descriptions of mothering demonstrate the warlike spirit she has channeled into her raising of Coriolanus. The imagery she uses in Act 1 Scene 3 also separates her from the other women in the play. Volumnia speaks of blood, swords, and death, while women like Virgilia speak of sewing and butterflies. Brand identity and brand image are two distinct yet interrelated dimensions of brand building. Brand identity entails the strategic efforts of firms to assign a brand with unique characteristics in a bid to achieve positive perceptions by target consumers (Nandan, 2005). The ingredients of a brand are the product itself, the packaging, the brand name, the promotion, the advertising and the overall presentation. The brand owner assembles these attributes and blends them in a unique way. A key to enhancing the equity of a brand is the selection of an appropriate branding strategy. Laforet and Saunders (1999) define branding strategy as the way companies mix and match their corporate, house, family and individual brand types for their products or services. This mix and match of brand types generates a variety of options for the companies from which they can select a suitable branding strategy for a product/ service. Furthermore, McDonald et al. (2001) assert that an appropriate branding strategy is crucial as it would reinforce the desired positioning and hence influence purchase behaviour. Alex Molinaroli, CEO of Johnson Controls, Inc. talked about a possible merger with Tyco International PLC., in the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this past week. A Tax Inversion is a business transaction in which a company, typically residing in the U.S., merges with a foreign company and moves its corporate headquarters overseas while maintaining its main operations in the U.S. for strategic purposes; specifically to take advantage of the lower tax rules in the foreign country. Even though, this practice has progressively increased in the last two decades, Congress is not so enthusiastic with the idea of corporations trying to avoid a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, like any other merger between two firms, companies benefit from significant cost synergy during the implementation of an acquisition and/or merger with other company. For example, when two companies combine their strengths to complement each other, they restructure their operations and as a result several offices and sites are closed down which leads to the laying off of employees, consolidating services and software applications. All these changes, result in synergy savings for the new company. A tax inversion is considered a form of tax avoidance, not tax evasion. To provide clarity and differentiate these two terms, tax inversion is simply a method that a U.S. corporation can use to avoid paying higher taxes by changing their tax address to a foreign nation. This practice is constitutional and therefore, legal (although many members of Congress are trying to pass laws that would put restrictions on future tax inversions). An example of a tax inversion is Burger King s acquisition of Tim Hortons Inc., a Canada coffee and doughnut chain. Burger King (BK) moved its Miami based headquarters to Ontario, Canada which caused a controversy. BK saved as much as 1.2 billion dollars. On the other hand, tax evasion by definition is the use of illegal means to avoid paying taxes and involves and individual or corporation misrepresenting their income to the Internal Revenue Service and is considered fraud. Discoveries can reaffirm, transform and challenge preconceptions and assumptions about human nature, bringing about renewed perceptions that affect individuals and society. Through various poetic techniques, William Ernest Henley s Invictus explores the three dimensional nature of discovery, accentuating a successive revelatory self discovery as the persona overcomes seemingly insurmountable adversities. We see the persona s internal transformation being reflective of Henley s early contraction of tuberculosis, necessitating a leg amputationwhen he was 25. Trialling a revolutionary antiseptic saved Henley s other leg from amputation. Today, I will be speaking about the spiritual and emotional unearthing of inner strength, resilience and empowerment manifested in the lyrical quatrains of Invictus , amplifying discoveries as being intensely meaningful and transformative. An unexpectedly adverse environment can stimulate the evolution of an individual s perspective, precipitating an emotional paradigm shift. The hyperbolic simile and infernal allusion with Black as the Pit from pole to pole illustrates the magnitude of the persona s indefinite suffering, foreshadowing death and a bleak perspective on life with a melancholic atmosphere. We see the personification in night that covers me , where night is metaphorical for the persona s suffering, demonstrate the arduousness in surmounting unpredictable challenges, reinforcing the persona s misfortune and its ramifications are perpetual. However, the plosive consonants with the alliterated b , emphasising the bludgeoning, and metaphor in Under the bludgeonings of chance/My head is bloody, but unbowed conveys you, me and the persona as prisoners of probability being bombarded with challenges, highlighting the capricious difficulties and detriments affecting the individual. Unique in its non annual, temporally asynchronous breeding cycle across adjacent colonies, prolonged breeding and lactation period, extreme female site fidelity, and natal philopatry, the Australian sea lion is thus considered one of the world s rarest non migratory otariids (Kirkwood Goldsworthy 2013; Campbell 2005). While nutrient poor marine environment demotes synchronized seasonal breeding as it fails to provide lactating cows sufficient energy and nutrient for pups, it has been argued that the non annual breeding cycle allows for longer maternal association to develop the neonates foraging abilities (Gales, Shaughnessy Dennis 1994). This behaviour of nurturing young pups in developing unique foraging strategies has been termed family farm hypothesis by Kirkwood and Goldsworthy (2013, p.61), resulting in females developing stronger inclinations to return to their breeding site. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the results section, I am going to show the different measurement invariance models. In order to determine whether national political trust (NPT) and supranational political trust (SPT) can be regarded as two empirically distinct concepts, it is necessary to test a one factor model encompassing all five indicators against the proposed two factor model shown in Figure 1. When examining the MGCFA models, different methods of assessing goodness of fit is applied. First, the raw chi squared value for the model of interest is reported. However, it has been shown that inferences based on the raw chi squared values tend to favour problematic models when the sample size is small and reject sensible models when the sample size is large (Hooper et. al, 2008). In this case, where the sample size is almost 30,000, it is expected that an increase in model complexity will lead to a significant increase in chi squared value. Second, the Comparative Fit Index (CFI) is reported, where values above 0.95 is considered good model fit (Hu and Bentler, 1999). When comparing competing models, Chen (2007) suggests that a decrease in CFI of less than 0.01 is acceptable. Finally, the two absolute fit measures, namely the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) and Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) are used for model comparison. ... During the interactive oral, my group discussed the cultural context surrounding the work and became aware that the book had an infamous history it had been banned in many schools and libraries across America. Immoral statements, profanity of the language and discrimination topped the list of reasons for the ban. An interesting point that stirred my curiosity was how the novel has been implicated in the murder of John Lennon. The murderer, Mark David Chapman had been influenced greatly by the novel. He was arrested at the scene of the murder clutching a copy of The Catcher in the Rye so I have decided to explore the implications of this event in the form of a newspaper article in the arts section of the New York Times published one week after this tragic event on 15th December, 1980. Linking the Abolitionist Movement to the Textile Industry Introduction The abolitionist movement would never link to the textile industry if the subject of slave labor were not the cotton grown in the southern part of the United States. Later on, slaves from the south found new owners in the middle states that embraced cotton growing (Ferrell, 2006). The development of commerce created a dependence of slave labor because cotton was the raw material for textile mills that supported the industrial cities that were around Boston. Beyond the direct labor of slaves in picking and putting cotton in bales for shipment, other laborers also faced slavelike conditions in the industrial mills where they toiled under grueling conditions (Porterfield, 2006). The quest to free factory workers and the desire of the workers to have a better say for their involvement in the industry became an obvious attraction to the quest of the abolitionists. The Slave Connection to the Textile Industry When southerners confronted the issue of abolition of slavery, some thought it was unacceptable, others were not so sure of the way forward, and some of them actually went ahead and freed their slaves. The southern economy depended on cotton and benefited mostly from the cheap and efficient slave labor. Many thought that whites would not want to work in the farms, even after they were paid. The storyline in this play is so dramatic and complicated it can be compared to a television soap nowadays. The main characteristic of a soap is: an emphasis on family life, personal relationships, sexual dramas, emotional and moral conflict. In my opinion the setting of the play, the relationships within and Iago s role contribute to making Othello 17th century television soap. The first group believes that The Republic is truly a model for a political society, while the other strongly objects to that, stating it as being far too fantastic for any society to operate successfully by these suggested methods. In an exchange between Crito and Dionysius, this argument is first introduced, with Crito siding with those who agree that The Republic is a realistic political model, and Dionysius arguing on behalf of those who doubt it as being realistic, claiming it to be a criticism of politics in general. ... He starts by describing the Social Contract theory (Plato 53), the method used during his time, a method Plato rejected. It says: all the customary rules of religion and moral conduct imposed on the individual by social sanctions have their origin in human intelligence and will and always rest on tacit consent. They are neither laws of nature nor divine enactments, but conventions which man who made them can alter, as laws are changed or repealed by legislative bodies. It is assumed that, if all these artificial restraints were removed, the natural man would be left only with purely egotistic instincts and desires, which he would indulge in all that Thrasymachus commended as injustice (Plato 41 42). In response to this description, Plato wrote, First, I will state what is commonly held about the nature of justice and its origin; secondly, I shall maintain that it is always practiced with reluctance, not as good in itself, but as a thing one cannot do without; and thirdly, that this reluctance is reasonable, because the life of injustice is much the better life of the two so people say. Behavioural economists and psychologist alike have long experimented with framing, the way in which an offer is put in context matters in a world in which people are prone to bias. Framings role in marketing is perhaps best explained through prospect theory, a term described by Kahnemen. Groups were given a choice of either getting $900 for sure or a 90% chance of getting $1000. The majority chose the safer option of $900 since people are generally risk averse. The second problem was a choice between losing $900 or a 90% chance of losing $1000, in this situation the majority took the risk. The lesson here as Kahnemen describes is that losses loom larger than gains . Similar experiments by () have shown that people will only risk losing money if they have an equal chance of gaining twice that amount. So, when it comes to the discussed anchor price firms should instead set retail prices which include all extras or perhaps a range of prices rather than a single number for a vehicle. This means that consumers will have that higher number or range as an anchor by which they negotiate with. If salesmen fail to convince the customer to buy a certain extra they can revert to the default price. Positivists focus on the falsification of things and insistence on their verification. Scientist, Karl Popper, brought new ideals to this approach by making light on the fact it is not possible to prove something true, but it can ultimately be proven true by never being proved false which can provide you with long term approximations for knowledge. Many of the most memorable moments of Catch 22 are indisputably hilarious. One such example is Colonel Cathcart, an indecisive squadron leader obsessed with his own self image. The darker implications of Cathcart s actions reflect twistedly on the humor of those first scenes.
