3. Edgar Allan Poe Alone Essay
From childhood s hour I have not been As others were is a quote from Alone by Edgar Allen
Poe. This poem has a copious amount of metaphors and contradicting statements. Edgar uses
those literary devices to show his struggles with isolation and depression. In the beginning, he
said as a child he was different from everyone else because he didn t have the same intensity of
emotions as others I could not bring My passions from a common spring From the same source I
have not taken My sorrow . He talks about his incapability to feel a full scale of emotions and
isolation. Poe s cease to have a range of emotions makes him to remain neutral or detached. He
isolated himself from others because of his differences and later on the solitude would... Show more

The poem has an abundance of metaphors and contradictions. Nature is an extended metaphor
throughout Alone and that is where multiple of the contradictions are located. Poe has made many
of the word have double meanings, for example the word torrent . From the torrent, or the fountain
torrent could either mean fast moving waters, which would contradict with a fountain s water, or it
could mean a sudden and violent outburst of words or feelings, which could fit it with the theme of
him not have such extreme emotions. The word torrent also fits in with the extended nature
metaphor. Poe uses the extended metaphor to show all the contrasting emotions around him, but he
remains neutral. Then, in the dawn Of a most stormy life , stormy or the aspect of a storm is used
as a metaphor to show his emotions. The metaphor is also used many times in the entire poem
which shows him remaining neutral even when there are so many different emotions around him.
The contradictions represent the contrasting emotions in the extended metaphor. In the end, the
metaphor Of a demon in my view is used to show the results of isolating himself from everyone
else because of his neutrality. The demon represents his depression from solitude. All the metaphors
are used to create the theme of being alone and

4. Nebraska Analysis
When you pick up the 1982 album, Nebraska, you get little to no indication of Bruce Springsteen
other than his name emboldened in blood red capital letters across the front. You won t find a
smirking Dylan esque portrait like the album that came before it, or a baseball cap hanging from
his blue jean pocket like the album that came after it. The black and white photo of a sprawling
country landscape coupled with the contrasting red text immediately gives the feeling of
despondence. If anything, this picture is a warning to the listener: we are alone now. The album
insert provides little to no comfort, either. There is very little reassurance in the content of this
album as a whole, but that is especially true about these pages. All you receive... Show more content

The major key and faster tempo combined with the brighter/higher vocal range creates a more
hopeful sound. Despite that, though, the imagery used is more graphic than the opening song,
Nebraska, as Springsteen opens with a description of someone poking a dead dog with a stick.
Again, similar to the entire album, the soft acoustic guitar and its repetition drive the singer s
search for understanding and meaning in something. The closing line to both the chorus and the
album itself is at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe. Before
delivering that line, Springsteen plays momentarily in piano and softens his voice before he pushes
at the end of every hard earned day out in forte before fading the vocals out completely and
replacing them with the soft hum of the harmonica. Springsteen thinly veils his pessimism
throughout the song but it can t be said for sure whether he thinks it s foolish to believe in anything
at all. Early in the song, even, he claims that it struck him as kinda funny , but ultimately
Springsteen leaves the question of foolishness up to the listener to determine for

6. How Saint Thomas Is the Best Saint
Thomas Didymus is the best saint out of all the saints that have lived on this planet. For one
thing, Thomas was one of Jesus s most loyal disciples. And because he was a disciple of Jesus,
he was one of the few saints to witness the miracles of God s only child and learn from him.
Additionally, he was a missionary in South Asia to dedicate his life to spread the Word of God
there. As seen by the preceding information, I can say that SaintThomas is the best saint who ever
lived.
If Saint Thomas isn t recognized as the greatest saint, he should at least be in the Top 12 List, as
does the rest of Jesus s 11 disciples. But what I think what makes him Number 1 is that he was
more eager to learn from Jesus s teachings than any other of Jesus s disciples. And I also esteem
him for his curiosity and his habit for questioning clarity when Jesus does his teachings and
parables. In The Last Supper, John 14:1 5 Jesus foretells his death and his ascension into heaven
along with his disciples, including Thomas. It reads, Jesus said to his disciples Don t be
worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me. There are many rooms in my Father s house. I
wouldn t tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. After
I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together. You know the
way to where I m going. Thomas said, Lord we don t even know where you are going! How will
we know the way? I think Thomas is the guy who

7. Evolution Of Live Birth And Snakes
Evolution of Live Birth in Snakes
The evolution of how snakes reproduce by bearing live offspring will be discussed by determining,
the evolutionary pathway of live birth, viviparity, egg laying birth, oviparity and giving live birth
but being kept in the womb in eggs until being ready to hatch, ovoviviparity. Discussion of the
advantages and disadvantages of each reproduction method will be determined. The objective of
this paper is to discuss the factors that have contributed to the evolution of snakes being viviparous.
The way snakes give birth is either through live birth, viviparity, or by laying eggs, oviparity.
Snakes are located within, Reptilia, the same class many dinosaurs were located in. Reptiles are the
descendants of creatures in the Paleozoic period called, Labrynthodonts. One of the earliest reptiles
that resembles the snake is the, Eophis, an eight inch long snake that lived in England (Guillette
Jr. 1993). The Eophis was very different compared to modern snakes, Eophis had four legs and is
believed to have been living near water. The limbs are what enabled Eophis to move rapidly in
water (Guillette Jr., 1993). Around 100 million years ago the limbs in Eophis were loss and
limbless snakes evolved (Guillette Jr., 1993). The fossil record of early snakes is very rare due to
snakes consisting of many small and very fragile bones making them easily destroyed. Most of the
species classified within Reptilia are oviparous. (Guillette Jr., 1993). Snakes are no

According to an Oxford journal about autism, affected children or adults almost always show
evidence of restricted imagination and predilection for rigid routines (O Callaghan, 2002).The
need for a set routine is demonstrated when Sam becomes extremely upset when Lucy suggests
they go to Big Boy instead of IHOP; Afterwards when he agrees to go, he starts screaming and
acting out because the restaurant did not have the same pancakes as IHOP. Also Sam and his
friends have a set weekly schedule of Wednesday at IHOP, Thursdays are movie night, and Friday
is Karaoke. When one of the plans is changed it causes high anxiety and angst among the group.
Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder that affects a persons ability to socialize and
communication with others (NAMI, 2011). The difficulty with communication is shown
throughout the movie. In one scene, Sam was helping Lucy with her schoolwork and he came
across problem could not solve he mentally shut down and changed the subject. The absence of
social normalities is shown when baby Lucy accidentally makes a woman spill her drink, Sam then
try to help the woman by picking up ice that dropped in the woman cleavage. The unawareness of
the social limitations and personal boundaries is absent, which reinforces the diagnosis for autism.

because there are so many outfits, shoes, accessories, and play sets that they can mix and match.
This can improve their skills as well as they can share their ideas behind their decisions for

10. Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s Suttree Essay
Throughout Cormac McCarthy s Suttree, the title character is constantly evolving throughout
adulthood. We first meet Suttree while he is in prison, a place where he has major conflicts with
his inner self. By the end of his journey, Suttree is more unified and has found inner peace. Carl
Jung is an analytical psychologist who has many theories based on the human unconscious. Jung s
premier psychological theory of archetypes where every person falls into different archetypes help
to identify Suttree. Suttree falls into three different archetypes: the seeker archetype, the innocent
archetype, and by the end of the novel the self archetype. Most of these characteristics are seen
through his decisions while interacting with others, but his time spent alone also helps to prove that
Suttree has these archetypes more than any others. Also, since he shows to be these three
archetypes, it is easier to sympathize with Suttree, instead of declaring him as a solipsistic being.
Another one of Carl Jungs most popular psychological theories is the belief of multiple layers of
consciousness. His most popularized belief is the idea of the collective unconscious. In Suttree, the
collective unconsciousness is represented through the descriptions of the Reese family. The
collective unconscious represents the primitive nature of humans, and the Reese family is
McCarthy s way of showing his feelings towards the collective mind.
Carl Jung s psychology has been used throughout the years to analyze

11. Mapp V. Ohio
Landmark cases are brought to the attention of the Supreme Court due to their historical and legal
significance. Generally these types of cases question the application or interpretation of a certain
law and usually concern an individual s rights and liberties. The three most common amendments
challenged include; the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendments.
In the case Mapp v. Ohio, Dollree Mapp claims that the decision made in lower court violated her
fourth amendment rights.
On May 23, 1957, police officers received word that Dollree Mapp, a resident of Cleveland, Ohio
was said to be quartering a suspected bomber. Three police officers later arrived at her house and
asked to enter which she refused. While one of them stayed, the two others left and soon came

On the other hand, the State of Ohio argued, the Fourteenth Amendment does not forbid the
admission of evidence obtained by an unreasonable search and seizure in state courts. The state also
brought up the point that the Tenth Amendment gives states the right to operate a separate court
system. In response to this, Mapp argued, the exclusionary rule applied in the federal courts should
be taken into consideration in state courts.
Elkins v. United States acted as a precedent for the case and dealt with the exclusionary rule. In this
case the Court ensured that no one should be convicted due to unlawful evidence at either the State
or federal level. In the perspective of the State of Ohio, they said that due to the Tenth Amendment
the states operate on a different level. However, the Tenth Amendment does state that powers not

power to conduct illegal searches and

Tweeter
Case Questions
1. Objectively and subjectively, is Tweeter price competitive? Why or why not?
Tweeter is an electronics store that pride itself on selling middle and high end goods. To see if
they were price competitive, we would have to evaluate them with similar stores like Cambridge
sounds waves as opposed to Walmart. Before APP in 1993, it would not have been possible to
evaluate Tweeter s price competitiveness since there was no systematic benchmarking present.
However with the APP, objectively, I think that Tweeter did try to price their goods competitively
with other similar goods. The APP strategy showed that their prices were competitive even in
comparison with cost leader competitors like Lechmere. This ... Show more content on

Customers now perceive Tweeter as expensive but not more than its other competitors. By changing
the marketing mix and including the buyer guide, it tells the customers who are interested in high
quality, the features of the products and ensures them that they are taking a calculated decision.
These customers who are particular about the product now appreciate Tweeter s efforts to provide
technical advice and provide fair advices about the product through the guide.
Doing all these helps change the customer s perception of Tweeter of being expensive, it is trying to
convey to customers that their price on the high quality goods are matched to its other competitors.
Its unique selling proposition of high quality and customer service is embedded in the minds of its
customers and that s how they are differentiating themselves from the other retailers. I think overall,
their new marketing strategy really fits well and targets their niche market of Quality/Service
customer. Such customers are interested in premium products yet concern about price and I think
Tweeter s marketing message and marketing mix really targets those customers.
I also think that the buyer s guide is Tweeter s great way of establishing itself as the tech go to

Capital structure refers to the capital and long term liabilities of balance sheet. Therefore, it

world around them. Jesus Christ, after his crucifixion, left an imprint on the human race with the
establishment of Christianity and the spread of his beliefs through his followers. His
accomplishments that were recorded in the Gospels will continue through the ages, spreading his

opposite effect. Several issues, including history, philosophy, and language, impede the attempt to
better apprehend Jesus Christ. In regards to the issue with history, there is an inverse relationship
between the desire for Jesus history with the current amount of information that humanity has
recorded of him. For a religious figure who has left an immeasurable amount of influence onto
mankind with his abilities, interactions with others, humility, and ultimate sacrifice, procuring more
knowledge on this being would a great benefit to Christological studies. There would be no amount

amount of detailed information on him currently available after nearly two millennia. There are not

15. The Story Of American Slavery
For the story of American slavery to be complete, it has to include the ills of the system, the
changes created in the aftermath of emancipation and the precipitous slide down into the sins of
segregation. Many books about slavery and the brutality of the life that so many people had to
endure have been written over the years. In this book, David Blight tells the story about two men,
John M. Washington (1838 1918) and Wallace Turnage (1846 1916) and their escape from slavery
during the Civil War. Their escape to freedom occurred during the chaos of this nation s most
bloody war and amidst a political and cultural conflict, which had been ripping the country apart for
many decades.
Throughout the Civil War, in thousands of different circumstances, under changing policies and
redefinitions of their status, and in the face of social chaos caused by huge military campaigns
and destruction, four million slaves helped to decide what time it would be in American History
(Blight, 2007, p. 5). Whether it was freedom from a master or overseer, freedom from living as
both property and the object of another person s will, or even freedom to make their own
decisions and control their own life, slaves wanted a sense of independence. According to Blight
(2007), The war and the presence of Union armies and navies opened pathways to freedom for
them, as it did many slaves (p. 6). Both Washington and Turnage found their path to freedom in
their own unique way, and both accounts are

16. Analysis Of Country Lovers By Nadine Gordiminer
Themes Corresponding Works (Draft)
Ja Anna Godine
ENG 125 Introduction to Literature
Instructor Kurt Mueller
2 October 2014
Comparing Racism and Ethnicity in two literature works, Country Lovers and What it s like to
be a Black Girl we can trace racism from the very first stanza of the poem What it s like to be a
Black Girl and the first paragraph of Country Lovers. In both cases the protagonists are black
females who seem to be facing racial discrimination.
Most societies have small elements of racial discrimination that can be condoned. In fact some
societies are used to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is more pronounced in minority
communities where it is a recurrent experience. Many countries and states have enacted laws that
prohibit racism in its entirety, but the success of such laws depends on individuals who can either
heed from practicing it or just decide to be hard on others. The short story, Country Lovers written
by Nadine Gordiminer in 1975 best represents racial discrimination during colonial period. The
story revolves around two main characters Thebedi and Paulus. Paulus Eysendyck was a son to a
white settler while Thebedi was a daughter to a Laborer that used to work in Paulus father s farm.
Paulus, being the son of the rich white father had the freedom to play and interact with all other

Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and
they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves.
Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was

Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terror. Victory however long and hard the road may be.

States was given a surprise that they did not want to receive. The Japanese took a full head on
attack towards Hawaii, and it was not just at the navy, but every man, woman, and child was
affected. We asked why did this happen? Why would the Japanese attack us, the United States, who
was at the time not involved in World War Two? This country was upset for quite some time with
the United States. Japan was a country that was always wanting an abundant amount of natural
resources from other countries. Their main resource they wanted was oil. At this time, we were
giving them a large supply of oil, but then we cut it off. Our opponents realized that we, the United
States did not want them importing or exporting any good along the water any longer. Now that
Japan has caught on and is starting to struggle for natural resources, they decided that they needed
to think of a plan B. They noticed that our country has still not fully recovered from World War

20. The Defence Of Poesy By Sir Philip Sidney
Sir Philip Sidney argued for the positive value of imaginative literature in The Defence of Poesy,
in which he claimed that literature should teach and delight . The influence of Sidney s claim can
be seen in John Skelton s work The Bowge of Courte and Thomas Nashe s The Choise of
Valentines . Skelton s The Bowge of Court , has been described as a fifteenth century dream vision
built on the model of the moralityplay and The Choise of Valentines as an Ovidian erotic poem ,
which elaborates a tale of impotence and erotic substitution. While both poems are rich in their
differences, due to the satiric and erotic genres, they share the similarity of belonging to a very
specific time. By examining the origins d interpreting Sidney s presentation of the phrase teach
and delight , the ways in which Skelton and Nashe s texts maintain Sidney s claim can be
discussed. Skelton teaches through The Bowge of Court , by employing allegory as a way to
critique the court, and uses satireas a form of poetic council. Nashe teaches in The Choise of
Valentines by presenting his text and an example of originality and satirising the idea of
performance. Skelton delights in his text by using the symbol of the ship as an ornament added to
the truth of the poem. Nashe delights in his text by the freshness of language used and the
originality of his poetry.
Sidney uses the phrase teach and delight consistently throughout The Defence of Poesy, which he

22. How Was Canada West Formed
Canada West
By Eric H, Eric W and Rachel N.
How was Canada West formed?
Originally, there was no Canada West until February, 1841, when the Act of Union was
proclaimed. The Act of Union was suggested by Lord Durham, a wealthy politician who was sent
to investigate the troubles in Lower and Upper Canada (Lower Canada became Canada East, Upper
Canada became Canada West). The Canadas had various uprisings concerning the fact that they
wanted a Responsible Government. When Lord Durham got back to Britain, he gave the famous
Durham Report. He said that the Canadas should be granted a responsible government, and that
they should be unified into one. Durham wanted the Canadas to be united in hopes of the English
speaking Canada West assimilating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George Brown wanted true representation by population. The current situation was that both
Canadas had the same amount of seats in the parliament, but both Canadas also couldn t agree on
anything, leading to little decisions being made. They couldn t agree because Canada West was
English speaking while Canada East was French speaking, and the decisions that had to be made
affected both Canadas. Therefore, they both had different opinions. So in the end, George Brown
joined a coalition (an alliance that is made to get things done) with John A. Macdonald (Canada
West) and George Г‰tienne Cartier (Canada East) to form the Dominion of Canada (established
July 1st 1867). In the end, George Brown s idea, true representation by population, became the form
of government that Canada uses

23. My Communication Skills Of My Life And How They Have Been...
Being able to communicate is a great skill that one can practice every day of our lives. There are
several ways or types of communication skills I have learned in this course such as vocally,
written, visually, or non verbally. In this assignment, I am going to write about my
communication skills in three periods of my life and how they have been developed. First, I
would like to talk about how I was when I was a little. When I was about five or six years old, I
was spoiled between my family just like most of the other kids. However, outside my house I
can describe myself as a shy and quiet girl that I sometimes in school I have been bullied by
other students. When I was five years old my dad enrolled me and my half brother who is as my
age in a kindergarten school. I was always with my brother and I felt safe around him, but when
we become at the seventh age, my dad couldn t have enrolled us in the same school because he
was told that I was born at the last days of November and they would accept me in the school with
the next generation. Therefore, my dad decided that I am going to a private schoolso that I can be
with my generation.
At the first day of school I was afraid to be alone without having my brother around me. I just
hated that school because I was just by myself, and my classmates were not nice to me at all. The
boys and some girls were very mean and like to be bullying for example, they always take my stuff
and refused to return them back when I ask them to,

Abstract
A new methodology for customer knowledge management in the female central library in the
University of Dammam is needed because of the big amount of customers information that exist
there. Customers include employees, students, faculty members and researchers in the university.
so, the purpose of this study is to propose a methodology for organizing customer knowledge in this
library. In general, the proposed methodology is for developing a customer knowledge taxonomy
model (CKT). By using and applying this model the customer knowledge can be classified into
three categories: knowledge about customers, knowledge from customers and knowledge for
customers. in addition, this paper proposes a strategy of merging the first and second categories of
customer knowledge to form the third category. As a result of this case study, the librarians are
expected to use the CKT model to organize customer knowledge which will help in facilitating the
knowledge management activities including storing and sharing the knowledge. That will help
them also to understand the preferences and the requirements of their customers so they can
provide better services for them. Finally, it s expected that the proposed methodology can be used by

25. A commentary of the poem The Broken Tower by Hart Crane
A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor rich poem that is very ambiguous but seems to
describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which the artist is bound and
compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and references, directly mentioning God and
also bells, which are associated with churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious
sense, but it could be argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his
writings are both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The title, A Broken Tower,
refers to a continuing metaphor in the poem and suggests the deconstruction of established
paradigms which is necessary for artistic progress. Throughout the poem,... Show more content on

This is congruent with the need to destroy the tower, or destroy traditional ideas. Supporting the
strong visual imagery is the frequent mention of sound: the choir, voices, reveilles and echoes.
Imperfection is once again alluded to with the entry of the poet into the broken world in order to
trace the visionary company of love, its voice. This seems to directly refer to his creative process
in seeking truth and beauty in his writing. It is also the most positive concept expressed in the
poem thus far a wholly positive one, rather than the difficult process of destroying the obsolete
mentioned before. However, unlike the mighty tower, this voice is an instant in the wind and not
for long in other words, transitory. It is also mysterious and beyond the poets control, like the bells
in the tower, as the poet admits he know[s] not whither [it is] hurled.
Crane makes a more specific reference to his art; his word, as opposed to the Word of that tribunal
monarch of the air. The latter belongs to God, who is depicted as powerful and judgemental: the
deity of the Broken Tower. This could be seen as a personification of the judgemental ostracism
that Crane faced as a homosexual. The God metaphor is expanded on, with mention of Christs
wounds pledged once to hope, but also a rejection of it: cleft to despair. In this stanza, Crane offers
his word a replacement of the old Tower, symbolizing a

26. Describe The Elements Of The Business Environment That...
P1
Introduction
In this unit I will talk about the different elements of the economic environment that have
significant impact on businesses such as British Airways. I will explain how exactly they influence
the economic environment.
Economic environment
Every country has its economy which has features that can be measured in many various ways to
comprehend how they are evolving. These different features will allow us to describe changes in a
distinct business which in this case is British Airways. The economic environment of a country has
a meaningful effect on its business, as the trade that is happening between that country and other
countries affect how much money is passing in and out of the country. This than affects the cost of
goods and prices.
British Airways
British Airways is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom. It is the biggest airline in the
UK based. British Airways was considered the largest UK airline by passenger numbers from its
creation in 1974 until 2008 when it was replaced by low cost rival EasyJet. Since its origin, British
Airways has been centred at its main core at London Heathrow Airport, with a second major heart at
London Gatwick Airport. The British Airways Board was formed in 1971 to control the policy and
finances of the two large London based airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation
and British European Airways Corporation with two much smaller regional airlines, Cambrian
Airways and Northeast Airlines.

Everyone is told at a very young age that they can be whatever they want to be. But is this really
true? In our day and age, with technology advancing daily, many young people find that it isn t as
easy to follow one s dreams as is portrayed in fairy tales. October Sky is like these books, as it
shows boys following their dreams by creating homemade rockets. But what makes this seemingly
unrealistic book stand out from the rest is its ability to inspire. This book intrigues the reader and
draws them in as it shows the characters as they learn. As a true story, the author Homer Hickam
writes about himself as the main character in the story of his life. He writes about his group of
friends as they come together and decide to create rockets.

29. How Technology Helps With The Sales Process And How It Can...
The purpose of this essay is to discuss how technology can assist with the sales process and how it
can develop a trust based relationship between businesses.
Technology plays a very important role in the sales process, as new trends arise such as the use of
mobile applications, social media, database management systems and cloud computing the ability
to store information online and be able to access your data conveniently, everywhere and
anywhere you go as long as you have an internet connection has become the new meta. The
concept of selling has evolved into a many different activities comparatively to just a decade ago.
The successful professional salesperson of today and the future is likely a better listener than a
talker (Thomas N. Ingram, 2011). As mentioned by Thomas, a typical salesperson today are more
focuses in developing long term relationships with their customers rather than the historical
methods such as the short term, heavy selling methodologies. Businesses have moved on, the world
has accepted and adopted the new technology to help improve the sales process. Seller have
become more aware of the customer needs and requirements and are finding new ways to help
satisfy them. There are many selling approaches and are used for different types of selling
situations. Each approach has their own distinctive way of persuading the buyer and can result in
different levels of effectiveness. Using technology can have its benefits and also comes with a cost

31. Regulating Superweeds
There are many environmental risks that surround the topic of genetically modified foods such.
However, the main environmental concern surrounding genetically modified foods is the
development of superweeds . Superweeds are invasive plants with the potential to lower crop
yields and disrupt natural ecosystems . These invasive plant species are created by transgenic
crops [that] might cross pollinate with related weeds . These superweeds can get out of control
and negatively affect the ecosystem. They can become an invasive species and disrupt the
ecological balance in an environment. Not only can these superweeds affect the ecological balance,
but they can actually lower the crop yields of other crops. One main problem with superweeds...

After conducting some research I found that The United States does not have any federal
legislation that is specific to genetically modified organisms (GMOs) . Along with this I
discovered that, The US approach to regulating GMOs is premised on the assumption that
regulation should focus on the nature of the products, rather than the process in which they were
produced . I found this to be alarming. After finding this information I decided to investigate
further, specifically, into the regulation of genetically modified foods. All things related to food
must go through the Food and Dug Administration (FDA). Essentially the FDA regulates if
foods are safe or not for a consumer. After searching high and low for any information regarding
the FDA regulations for genetically modified foods, I found nothing. I found no information
about what is allowed and what is not with genetically modified foods and nothing about labeling
genetically modified foods, besides when allergens are present in a food. The only information I

including GMOs, to engage in a consultation procedure with the FDA, in order to ensure that
human food and animal feed safety issues or other regulatory issues (e.g. labeling) are resolved

32. Hamlet And Hamlet Comparison
When comparing two different Hamlet movies I found that one scene in particular was obviously
more different than the others. I compared Columbia pictures 1996 version with Kenneth Branagh
playing the role of Hamlet versus BBC s 2009 Hamlet in which David Tennant played the
honorable role of Hamlet. When comparing both movies I found a lot of similarities but there was
one major difference when I compared the To be or not to be scene. The scenes vary in multiple
ways whether it is lighting, focus, camera movements, and even the actors that play Hamlet.
I first want to dissect the 1996 movie in which Kenneth Branagh plays Hamlet. The To be or not to
be scene is clearly one of the most important scenes of the entire movie, so the directors ... Show

While both did their job of acting out the scene I believe Kenneth Branagh s 1996 film does a
much better job. Kenneth choose to act the scene in a very grand ballroom, which I think was
appropriate due to the grandness of soliloquy itself. In the BBC version of the scene Hamlet is
shown leaning against a pillar with such low key lighting you can not tell what sort of room he is
in. When Hamlet first enters the grand ballroom in the older movie he takes his time to begin
speaking which is crucial between the transition between the last scene and the current scene. The
length in speech gives the audience the chance to settle in for what they are about to hear. In David
Tennant s version he quickly jumps into his speech not leaving much room for transition. The
common audience does not understand every word of the Shakespearean language hamlet speaks
and may lose interest while Hamlet continues to ramble on. The continued camera movement
throughout Kenneth Branagh s movies helps the audience to stay focussed on the movie even if
they do not fully understand every word Hamlet speaks. During Gregory Doran s movie,
throughout the entire scene there are only two transitions and the camera never moves in either
position. This adds to the viewer losing interest, not only are they bored by having nothing in the
background to look at, due to the low key lighting, they are bored by the complex English
language Hamlet speaks and given only two transitions and no movements to maintain their
interest. The first representation of the To be or not to be speech creates multiple plots to further
add in maintaining the viewers interest. By placing the king and Polonius behind the two way
mirror and having Hamlet walk to the exact mirror creates a sense of urgency that is non existent
in the BBC version. Having this extra story allows

33. Departures Storm Jameson
In Departures, Storm Jameson depicts her isolation as a child and its continuation into adulthood.
Behind the cold barriers that Jameson builds around herself in both her child and adult life, an
unending cycle of fear continues within her. This cycle is reflected in the narrative structure of the
anecdote. Jameson s authorial choices to employ Labov s elements in a disjointed fashion and have
a brief complicating action reinforce her social detachment both as a child and an adult. Along with
the disjointed narrativeelements, an omitted coda and resolution convey that the detachment
continues throughout her life in a cycle of fear and isolation. With the intent of creating a
structural detachment that reflects her own emotional detachment, Jameson, as author, puts
together an orientation and complicating action that don t appear to go together. On a
September train ride, distant memories and thoughts blur past the grown Jameson s eyes, such
as the journeys made feverish by unmanageable longings and ambitions, night journeys in
wartime (15) and continue to make their way to the forefront of her mind with a picture of the
darkened corridor crammed with young men in clumsy khaki, smoking, falling asleep, [and]
journeys with a heavy baby in one arm (Jameson 15). Before Jameson as adult can make her way
back to her memory as a child, she must travel through many other memories of departures and
journeys. This roundabout way in which Jameson brings her reader into her memories
structurally reflects the detached feelings she has for herself as a child. It suggests a
physiological separation between Jameson and herself because she cannot easily think about her
past. These detached feelings are enforced textually when she uses the third person to refer to
herself as the child (15) and to those presumably close to her like her mother, whom she calls the
captain s wife (16). By creating this structural and textual detachment, Jameson emphasizes her
emotional isolation from herself as a child. Before speaking about herself as a child, she must
search through her memories like a knot of adders uncoiling themselves, (15) which suggests that it
is painful for Jameson to reach back to her childhood

34. Similarities Between Huck Finn And Walden
Freedom is an inalienable right according to the Declaration of Independence. But it s only
inalienable to those of a certain age, race and gender. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and
Walden share a similar premise about seeking and gaining freedom but go about it very differently.
Freedom in Huckleberry Finn comes about through running away, making good friends and having
many adventures. Freedom in Waldenhappens when Thoreau is secluded in nature for an extended
period of time to be self reflective. Huckleberry Finn is an adolescent and Thoreau is an adult.
As an adolescent, I would rather be with friends new or old on a similar adventure as Jim and
Huckleberry Finn down the Mississippi because of freedom it represents and the encounters with
people and situations along the way. Thoreau s seclusion for years on a pond in the woods means
he s alone with nothing but his thoughts to develop personal philosophies on freedom. Both books
are statements on the society at the time and on how to best find yourself at different life stages.
Huckleberry Finn is running away from an abusive parent and started off his adventure alone,
but soon finds Jim who is a runaway slave of Miss Watson s. They continue their journeys
together and become friends and will do anything to protect each other. Along the way, when
they are together they come across two people in need of help. Just as I was passing a place where

In 1943 two men, Martin and Bell discovered a gene condition called Fragile X Syndrome. 2
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, which may cause an intellectual disability,
behavioural and learning difficulties and various other physical characterstics.1 It occurs when the
female gene (X gene) is repeated over 50 200 times, this is called Fragile X permutation. 1 In
1969, Herbert Lubs established the chromosomal test for Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome
is an inherited condition in which the X chromosomeis passed on from the parent to the child. If the
woman has the affect X, they will have an increased chance for passing the geneon but as men have
an Y as well as an X chromosome, if they have Fragile X Syndrome, their sons won t be affected as
they have their fathers Y chromosome. It is the most common form of inherited intellectual
disability in males and a major cause of intellectual disability in females.
There is currently no cure for this condition yet and treatment is generally based on the symptoms
the individual has.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the only examination for Fragile X Syndrome was a test in which
blood was taken to test for chromosomes.3 However, this was unreliable as not always accurate. In

organization. I organized my friend s traits in to 3 categories: central, secondary, and cardinal.
Allport s theory focuses on individual differences. His theory suggest that individuals differ in
the traits that predominate in there personalities. some traits are common; others are unique
(Cloninger 2013 page 128). He goes on to explain that some traits are individual or unique while
others are common. Central traits can affect everyday behaviors. these are traits that your close
friends or family would be able to point out if asked. Examples of my friends central traits would

Where Theravada Buddhist believes that only a few men can achieve nirvana, Mahayana
Buddhist believes that everyone possesses the nature of enlightenment and can achieve it. One
other major difference between Theravada Buddhist and Mahayana Buddhist is that Mahayana
Buddhist are far more open to anything that can lead to a greater sense of spiritual awareness
and they are also open to other religious paths. Mahayana Buddhist heavily emphases the
importance of both compassion and wisdom. Karuna, which means empathy, is the belief that

about the historical emergence of human S. typhi infections, however it is thought to have caused
the deaths of many famous figures such as British author and poet Rudyard Kipling, the inventor

Typhoid/ Enteric Fever:
Infection of S. typhi leads to the development of typhoid, or enteric fever. This disease is
characterized by the sudden onset of a sustained and systemic fever, severe headache, nausea, and
loss of appetite. Other symptoms include constipation or diarrhea, enlargement of the spleen,
possible development of meningitis, and/or general malaise. Untreated typhoid fever cases result in
mortality rates ranging from 12 30% while treated cases allow for 99% survival.
Virulence Factors:
S. typhi has a combination of characteristics that make it an effective pathogen. This species
contains an endotoxin typical of Gram negative organisms, as well as the Vi antigen which is
thought to increase virulence. It also produces and excretes a protein known as invasin that allows
non phagocytic cells to take up the bacterium, where it is able to live intracellularly. It is also able
to inhibit the oxidative burst of leukocytes, making innate immune response ineffective.
Epidemiology:
The encounter of humans to S. typhi is made via fecal oral route from infected individuals to
healthy ones. Poor hygiene of patients shedding the organism can lead to secondary infection, as
well as consumption of shellfish from polluted bodies

41. Persuasive Speech For Speech
SUMMER! It s that time of year again and with that comes summer break! , a phrase that brings
joy and a bit of nervousness for parents. As a speech language pathologist, a question heard often
from families this time of year is what can we do at home? . We love this question, because
speech practice can be done from anywhere! I wanted to share with you a few ideas that can be
quick, easy, effective, and FUN.
1.Chalk
Chalk is a must have for summer days. As a child, I can remember drawing endless hopscotch
mazes in the cul de sac with my neighbors and racing to the finish line. Let your kids have a great
time being creative and creating their own courses on the driveway, but encourage them to
practice their speech sounds. For example, you or your child could write or draw pictures of
speech words in each square of hopscotch, so that each time they jump on a square, they practice
saying the words.
I also love tracing bodies in chalk and decorating them with funny faces, clothes, etc. This gives
your child opportunity to describe the person, label items, or tell a story about what the person is
doing.
2.Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are so fun and can be so beneficial for speech and language goals. For a child
working on speech sounds, you could hide objects or pictures with their sound and let them find
them as fast as they can! As they find them, they can say the word 5 times or describe where it is
using prepositions ( under the trampoline ). They can also practice inferences or guess where the
next item will be ( I think the tennis ball will be in the mailbox ). This is also fun as a flash light
scavenger hunt . You can tape your practice words around the house and turn off the lights or hide
objects outside at night time. Hand your child a flashlight and then go find the words! They can
say each word as they find them!
3.I spy
This is a favorite of mine, because it can be easily adapted to match your child s goals, and you can
never go wrong with a game of I Spy . For younger children who are working on building
vocabulary, this will give them a chance to identify and label objects and actions around the house,
playground, beach, outside, etc. This is also a great time for you to draw their

42. PE Investment Analysis
In the last decade, PE has emerged as a significant source of capital for funding infrastructure
projects. Traditionally, equity for infrastructure projects was typically contributed by the sponsors
and developers of the project. A major portion of the project investment was often obtained through
debt financing, which accounted for about 6o% 7o% of the total investment required. Non sponsor
investment has been largely in the form of debt, except in the case of public equity offerings. The
rise of PE investment has led to the availability of a new pool of capital for infrastructure projects,
where the need for capital is substantial. Unlike other external sources of funding, PE investors are
active investors. They usually provide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An inference from this is that governments should not only create conditions to facilitate foreign
PE investment, but they should also take bold steps to develop the domestic PE industry. The
presence of a strong domestic PE industry would be a catalyst to attract further foreign PE
investment. A large proportion of investments in our sample consisted of single investor deals.
The study of solely financed and syndicated deals highlighted the main motivations for
syndication. The average investment amount in syndicated deals was higher than that of deals
where there was only a single investor. However, there were no significant differences in the state
variables between sole and syndicated deals. This showed that both sole and syndicated deals
were taking place in similar operating environments. If the motivation of syndication was to
leverage the diverse expertise among the investors with a view to reducing risk, then syndicated
deals would have been expected in riskier environments, for example in states where the level of
corruption was higher or the PRI value was lower. Since this has not been the case, we feel that
capital pooling in order to fund larger projects has been the main motivation for syndication, rather
than the ability to assume a higher level of operating environment risk. The overall characteristics
of the operating environment also play an important role in attracting PE investment. Regional
analysis shows that the East had the lowest

Functions of HR
BUS 226: Intro to Personnel Administration
The Functions of HR
When going to work for a new company, you are given a job analysis or job description, to let
you know what is expected from the job once the position is held. Here is where you learn about
the compensation, training, and performance needs that the job requires. By giving this to
potential new hires this allows them to know what needs to be done to keep the job and perform it
properly. We will discuss the job analysis of a childcareteacher and what needs to be addressed in

In case of any situations, you need to have a positive discipline, the center that I work at uses
redirection. Redirection is where you talk to all parties and discusses what happened and what we
could have done differently, instead of sending a child to time out or to the corner; we will redirect
them to another activity. Maintaining program administration is keeping parents informed of
expectations of the program, activities, the child s progress and any incidents or accidents that may
have occurred during the day. One way to maintain the program is by having a daily schedule in
each classroom. Having a daily schedule with allow the teacher, parent, and child know what is
going on throughout the day. There will be a time for snack and lunch, recess, math, science,
reading, writing, circle time, potty training, etc. Children do better when they have a schedule to
follow, having a schedule means that the classroom is not chaos the entire day. Performing other
duties may be filing paperwork, cleaning dirty diapers, and moping the floor, anything besides
teaching but still keeping the children in a safe and clean environment to learn in.

make no attempt, as romantic heroes, to romance the object of their affection. Furthermore, despite
the Knight s tale being a romance, its center is more on the competition between the two men as
opposed to the relationship Emily would have with one of them. Chaucer devotes two pages to
their argument on who deserves Emily more, Arcite who loves towards her is a loveas to a creature
or Palamon whose love Arcite mocks as an affeccioun of hoolynesse . It is this lack of agency and

His serenades disturb Emily s sleep, his gifts are often unwanted, when he finally resorts to
words he uses lines like I moorne as dooth a lamb after the tete, which bypass any romantic
feelings. Nicholas on the other hand knows how to use his words, when he courts Alison This
nicholas gan mercy for to crye, And spak so faire, and profred him so faste,
That she hir love hym graunted atte laste,
The word faire implies that he is using the language of romances to his advantage. The reader is
told the Nicholas is a scholar and a well read one at that. It wouldn t be stretch to say that he then
would use his knowledge of romantic tradition to successfully seduce. The odd parallel mentioned
before has to do with how we map the characters. At face value we can say that Nicholas is Arcite
s counterpart and that Absolon is Palamon s but that doesn t match story wise as Nicholas is the
one who wins Alison s favor while Alcite dies and Palamon is the one who marries Emily but
Absolon is farted on. Could this an attempt by Chaucer to comment on ineffectiveness of genuine
romantic sensibilities? That only a simulacrum of romance referenced from texts is more applicable
and successful.
Next is a look of motifs that Chaucer made both tales share or manipulated to further prove a
point. As I mentioned just earlier it is how both tales end that messes up character mapping and

Trade Routes
1. Indian Ocean Trade
The Indian Ocean Trade included overland and sea trade routes that extended from China to the
Swahili Coast to the Middle East. It provided easy access to cheaper and more frequent trade during
the monsoon seasons because sailors could depend on the predictable monsoon winds. Cultural
diffusion occurred through peaceful trade that was dominated by merchants. Technology, ideas,
religion, and products also spread throughout the trade routes. The Indian Ocean Trade was the first
time that goods were being traded in mass market.

women felt during the 1870s. This story is a serious representation of how difficult it was to get

rejoices at the news of her husbands death. Due to her disappointment of seeing that her husband
had not actually passed, Mrs. Mallard dies. One might question why she was overjoyed by that
upsetting news; however, she was justified in feeling cheerful. In this story, Mrs. Mallard states

Back when he was a human with a brain and heart he was afraid of being lonely and met this

enough to built a better house for her, but the old lady she lived with was lazy and did not want

Nevertheless, the ax ended up splitting him in half, he then, was no longer made of flesh nor

while axing some trees, he forgot to bring his oil can and got caught up in a rainstorm, which

48. External and Internal Factors
External and Internal Factors
Management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational
goals (Bateman Schnell, 2003, p. 14). The four functions of management are planning, organizing,
leading, and controlling. Internal and external factors such as rapid change, technology, and
diversity impact the four functions of management. This paper will focus on these three factors and
their impact on Verizon. The successful application of the four management functions when dealing
with these factors, impact the success and failures of Verizon, as well as all other organizations.

Organizing these meetings has gone from dependence on resource availability to selecting from
a variety of meeting options such as teleconferencing, web share meetings, and conference calls.
Technology has also impacted the means of leading a team. Projects are no longer initiated and
supervised on site. Today, a manager has the ability to run a project remotely thanks to advances
such as instant messaging, remote call forwarding, and wireless internet access. A project team
leader can receive a call, go online for answers, and electronically forward documentation to the
team from a remote location, or the comfort of his home. Perhaps the most effective impact
technology has is how quickly results can be measured when monitoring the success of a project.
Once a project is complete, tools such as shared databases allow each team member to monitor
results real time, and apply necessary changes. Technology also impacts Verizon externally.
Advancements in communication delivery by a competitor often cause a planned project to be
altered. The popularity of Nextel s walkie talkie feature gave Verizon incentive to adjust focus its
planned rollout of a similar service. Other competitive technological advances, such as broadband,
drove Verizon to explore new ways to organize resources in order to meet the competitive
challenge. To implement FTTP (Fiber to the Premise) using techs with no experience in fiber, a

4.How Diasporas Engage their Home State
Diasporas can influence their home states in three primary manners. First, diaspora use remittances
to a) help and to influence family, religious and ethnic members and interest groups and b) to a
lesser and more recent degree, influence the state in particular ways. Second, diaspora engage in
home state political party mobilization in order to influence home state politics and economics.
Third, a diaspora uses its host state political and economic apparatuses to influence their home state.

In 2009, the World Bank declared its 5x5 Initiative which aimed to reduce the cost of financial
transfer from 10% of the total value of the transfer in 2009 to 5% in 2014. While the global average
cost has decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of 2014, many prices of money transfer to sub
Saharan Africa remain above 10% at 11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain
substantially cheaper than commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has
particularly focused on ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States Dodd
Frank law which mandates that an individual knows the full cost of transferring money overseas at
the moment that she/he sends the order. The hope of reducing costs and increasing transparency is
to allow remittances to create income generating activities.
To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money transfers are
controlled by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive prices down.
Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be convinced that their
tax system should be designed to reward remittance investment into business development and
infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on
the incoming remittances.

The Strength of Apple Apple had always been different and what drove it never changed (Segall
88) Apple is arguably the most influential and disruptive technology company on the global scale.
Founded on April 1st 1976 in Cupertino California as Apple Computer Inc., Apple has had its
fair share of challenges and failures over the past 41 years but has become a behemoth of a
technology company over the last ten years or so, amassing gross amounts of success (Rawlinson).
The question is how; how did a small company started in a garage become so prosperous and how
have they made the competition, namely Microsoft and Samsung, almost irrelevant. The answer is
multi faceted. Obviously, timing plays a huge role in circumstances such as... Show more content on

The Apple I was a groundbreaking product for its time because all it required was a keyboard
and a monitor, other companies needed extra circuitry to display text making the Apple I more
enticing. While there were 200 Apple I computers produced, a significant amount for the time,
Apple s success really began with the Apple II (Rawlinson). The Apple II was a true innovation
for its time and completely revolutionized the computer market. However, it was not the Apple II
itself that was amazing even though it had color graphics and a very high resolution for its time;
it was what you could do with the computer that garnered so much interest, especially from
businesses (Rawlinson). Dan Bricklin, a Harvard Business School student saw that he could create
and run a program on the Apple II that could do a few different types of calculations we know this
today as a spreadsheet. The program or app, named VisiCalc, solidified Apple s place in the
computer and technology industry (Rawlinson). After the Apple II came the Macintosh and then
came the iMac. The iMac was a design of beauty on the shelves next to the beige computers that
dominated the market back then, the teal iMac, with its cutecircular mouse and translucent body,
stood out (The Apple Revolution). Apple did what none of the other companies were doing at the

Abstract
An organization functions from the mission statement and the organizational structure. These
functions helps to make a company move smoother within departments, which is assigned to
individuals that are responsible for overseeing that part of the organization. The organization is
responsible with living out the purpose of their mission statement. The organizational structure
reflects from the operative goals to help the organization function accordingly. Operative goals

Once the organization performs the operative goals, the focus of the goals will help to provide
better performance goals, resource goals, marketing goals, employee development goals,

overall performance of for profit organizations. Profitability may be expressed in terms of net
income, earning per share, or return on investment (Daft, 2008, p. 63). The overall performance
will be acted upon by the sales that are promoted, and having the ability to open more available
travel agencies with new products and services to clients. On the other hand, resource goals are

The fan based page already has sufficient content for viewers. Imagine if the Lakers, the

based page could ever reach. Fans love knowing what the players on their favorite team is doing
off the court. Lebron James has created a segment he uses through the Bleacher Report
application called Uninterrupted where he has short video clips reaching out to the fans on
recent events. I believe if the Lakers used this strategy they would be able to generate even more
of an interest since fans would be able to see a player s genuine reaction than just of a reaction
facing the media. My last recommendation would be for the Lakers to strengthen their main
weakness by using each social media tool to its individual strength. While Facebook can stay
informative since it executes all strategies with only one tool. Their Instagram can be used better by
continuing the I am LA campaign, then adding an Uninterrupted like segment. On Twitter, instead
