GAME ON! Integrating Games and Simulations in the Classroom
It is estimated that by the time that today’s youth enters adulthood that they will have played an average of 10,000 hours of video games. With the explosion of the maker movement, schools are beginning to embrace creativity. However, what does this mean for assessment? Should we assess the creative process? Should we assess the finished product? Does assessing creativity actually make kids more risk-averse? In this workshop we explore what it means to assess both the creative process and the creative product without leading to risk aversion.
After years of online life, we managed to print our first issue in 2015 and launched it at the Venice Art Biennale. In the occasion Posi+tive presents six artists of the ECC, European Cultural Center in Weissensee.

2. Background of Escher:
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) is one of the world's most famous
graphic artists. His art is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world,
as can be seen on the many web sites on the internet.
He is most famous for his so-called impossible constructions, such as
Ascending and Descending, Relativity, his Transformation Prints, such as
Metamorphosis I, Metamorphosis II and Metamorphosis III, Sky & Water I or
Reptiles.
He played with architecture, perspective and impossible spaces. His art
continues to amaze and wonder millions of people all over the world. In his
work we recognize his keen observation of the world around us and the
expressions of his own fantasies. M.C. Escher shows us that reality is
wondrous, comprehensible and fascinating.
3. How it links to my concept?
• The idea of using M.C Escher perhaps as a basis when making my magazine
advertisement for my video came from my concept of schizophrenia. The music video
itself will be subjective to the audience and this means that it will not necessarily be
crystal clear that what the condition the girl is suffering from is in fact schizophrenia.
Because of this I feel it is essential to emphasise the idea through my print productions.
Escher’s work is disorientated, confusing and exactly how I imagine my female
antagonists world to sometimes look. I think I can play with the look of Escher’s work
quite a lot and perhaps mix bright colours, repetitive shapes and intertwine images into
one another in order to give off this sense of paranoia and reflect the girl as an outsider
in the video.
• I feel it also links to my idea that the girl is an artist. I have decided to drop my idea of the
girl painting within the video but I still maintain her creative background in my eyes and
would want my audience to gain this vibe from her personality too. I want to develop her
as an intriguing and artistic female character who as a product of her disorder just isn’t
quite understood by the rest of society. Her style is alternative and links to the genre by
being so, therefore by using Escher’s imaginative yet individual style of artwork as a basis
I hope to communicate this message of artistic individuality to my audience.
4. Specific Images that Intrigue me:
It would be interesting to use this image of
my female antagonists eye, and then reflect
either one of my male characters in the iris or
perhaps a scull too. This would give a perfect
representation of her paranoia and I could
even create a forest within the iris to suggest
that the Forest has enticed her and
consequently forced this paranoia and sin.
This image would be perfect way to
demonstrate a certain control or
power within my female antagonist. I
could use her hand to be holding the
crystal ball and reflect the men inside
the ball, surrounded by the forest.
This gives the message that she is on
the hunt for these men and also is
paranoid and running from them, at
the same time as the instinct to
destroy them which is hinted at by the
end of the video. Alternatively, I could
place trees and a forest within the ball
and show the girl trapped in the ball.
This suggests her as an outsider in
society and trapped within the
paranoid ball that is her
schizophrenia.
