Lateral thinking is an indirect and creative approach to problem solving that involves viewing problems from a new and unusual perspective. It is a skill that can be learned and adds strength to natural abilities, improving creativity and innovation which are the engines that will drive lasting success in business today. Dr. Edward de Bono divides thinking into two methods: vertical thinking which uses logical processes, and lateral thinking which involves disrupting typical thinking sequences through techniques like considering alternatives, challenging assumptions, and randomly exploring ideas to potentially find breakthrough solutions.
