This project involves using drawing, two-dimensional and three-dimensional materials and processes to analyze the world around us and communicate ideas. Students will use an experimental approach to generate new ideas and learn the creative process. They will summarize their work in a PowerPoint presentation to post on their blog using SlideShare. The presentation should include images and information about the work produced for this assignment and how it meets the assessment criteria for Units 1 and 2.
Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

Equivalents Project Summary
1. Equivalents Unit Coverage: Unit 1 & Unit 2
This project is about working from direct observation, thinking and exploring the world
around us. You have used drawing to analyse, develop skills and to communicate
ideas.
You have used a wide range of two and three dimensional materials and processes.
Through using an experimental approach you are learning the creative process to
generate new ideas
The following slides are a template to use in order to summarise your work, which
should include information and images of your work produced for this assignment.
Present the Powerpoint slides on your blog using ‘Slideshare’.
Information of how to embed Slideshare in your blog can be found in the toolkit on the
Art & design website. Here is the link
https://college.esher.ac.uk/subjects/Art_Design/Pages/Embed-SlideShare.aspx
**Use the following slides (nos. 3-12) to summarise the work you have produced -
show how you have met the assessment criteria**
2. Equivalents Unit Coverage: Unit 1
& Unit 2
The assignment is designed to produced opportunities to produce evidence for these units
Unit 1:
2D 3D Visual Language
You need to produce work, which
demonstrates development of skills
and creativity in using visual language
The work should be organised and
annotated to show your evaluative
skills and development over time. Also
experimentation with mark-making and
object-making techniques, formal
elements and sources.
Evidence should be from contextual
studies, developmental and/or final
project work
Unit 2:
Materials, Techniques and Processes
Produce work, which
demonstrates your
understanding of skills in using
media, materials, techniques,
processes and associated
technology. This should
include; samples, trials, notes,
records and exploratory
project work
4. Source Studies
Assessment criteria: Examples of ‘primary and secondary sources with a description of how others
have used visual language in their work’
These could include: photographs of the still life and artists studies; drawings, colour, collage,
sculpture, photographic studies
My Photo Line drawing of a
the still life
Painting
of the
photo
Here, I have taken a primary source, the still life and drawn a line drawing of it. Then with that same still
life, I took a photo of it, which is my secondary source and painted a picture of it. Therefore I have
gone from primary to secondary with the same image and original object., Overall, this gives us an
range of studies using different sources.
5. Formal Elements, mark making and object making
Assessment criteria: examples of your work where you have used a combination of formal elements
(see Drawing Powerpoint for description of these), mark-making and object-making to develop
ideas and intentions.
These could include drawings, painting, homework studies, sketch models and 3D work
Collage and
mark making
sketch
3d model
made from
card and
string
3d model
made from
wood metal
and wire.
Here, I have a collect of pieces using different pieces using different medias. The first is piece is done by sticking on
pieces of card to main areas and then drawing on the outline in pen, then adding different marks to create depth
shadow or texture. The second is a 3d sculpture made from card using folds and cutting out different shape pieces of
card. Then the last is build in the workshop using MDF and metal and a few pieces of string.
6. Visual Language
Assessment criteria: An example and commentary of how you have used visual language in your
work and how it has been influenced by others’ work.
Examples: Homework research and studies produced such as ‘in the style of…painting, collage
work, sculpture research and development, cubism, photography
Visual language is the use of a image to convey a
particular or feeling or message. For example
William Turner uses a very limited amount colours
to show his image. His colours are very grey and
washed out and that is what I tried to replicate
with the painting on the right. There are no
particularly strong primary colours but more of a
grey version of it.
7. Using mix media
Assessment criteria: Examples where you have worked with a range of techniques with information
describing the characteristics of materials you have used
Examples: Use of mixed media, use of colour, painting, collage, models, 3D experiments in the
workshop. Homework studies
For this project we have used a variety of different medias.
First being MDF. Using the many machine in the workshop.
We created a model. Machines used included band saws
,drills belt sander and bobbin sander. We used these to
round edges or to make the wood a particular shape or
size. For example I used the drill to make holes to thread
the wire through. Another media we used was metal. The
use of soft aluminium and wire to create out sculpture. We
also used the workshop of this using such machinery as the
spot welder, guillotine and clamp. We used these to create
shapes we needed. As the metal was soft, it was easy to
manipulate and create shapes.
8. Workshop (safety)
Assessment criteria: Use materials, techniques and technology safely in creating and developing work.
Experiment and explore the potential of using these to develop ideas
Example: Demonstration of techniques and Health & Safety rules of working in the workshop. Examples of work
developed; drawings, colour studies, collages, models and how you have developed them.
Workshop safety
• When in the workshop, always wear an overall
• When using machinery or dangerous tools, use
safety goggles (gloves)
• Make sure you keep your fingers away from blades
and sharp machinery
• Make sure you tie your hair up if you have long hair
• Do not distract people using machinery, only one
person at a time
The instructions to the equipment should be well understood before use. As if we use the
equipment without knowing you could harm yourself. Also to know what you can and cant
do on equipment as you do not want to be harming yourself, the machine or others
around you.
9. Development
I started with a collage/mark
making piece. It is made from
a3 card ,string and card. This
image was drawn from a still
life.
I used the 3d collage as
inspiration for this
sculpture made from
string wire and card.
Then I used the brown card
sculpture to make a more
simplified and well
measured sculpture.
Then finally I made a 3d
sculpture inspired by the
white card sculpture out of
resistant materials (metal
wire wood string etc.)
10. Evaluation Summary
Assessment criteria: evaluation of your work is vital to your development as an artist/designer –it is important
to question your approach, what have you learnt, how have you developed an idea and what you would do
differently in future to improve.
Evaluation of the use visual language in your work and how it was informed by looking at others’ approach
(Unit 1)
Analyse and evaluate the creative potential and limitations of your use of materials, techniques and technology
(Unit 2)
Evaluation: this includes on-going annotation in sketchbook and final project evaluation. Write bullet points
and support with examples of your work
