Traders were erring on the side of caution ahead of the European Central Bank (ECB)
policy meet on Thursday in which the Frankfurt-based central bank could unveil
fresh easing measures to boost growth and inflation the 19-member Euro area econ-
omy. The ECB is likely to cut its deposit rate by another 10 basis points and may
boost its asset buying program. Gold being a hedge against the inflationary risk of
monetary stimulus will benefit from further monetary easing by central banks.
COMMODITY BUZZ
 Copper closed at Rs 334.60 per kg on 9 March 2016 against Rs 333.85 per kg on 8
March 2016. The prices of MCX Copper were swinging between gains and losses in
the intraday trades. Dejection on account of weak Chinese trade data is still haunt-
ing the prices. Meanwhile, Dollar index which measures the greenback's strength
against a trade-weighted basket of six major currencies, was up 0.2% to 97.36 dur-
ing European morning hours.
 China Copper industry is urging the government to allow the blending of raw ma-
terial copper concentrate imports when they land at the country's ports, which will
allow for cheaper though toxic supply to arrive.
 Li Baomin, who is the chairman of China's biggest integrated copper producer Ji-
angxi Copper Co Ltd, proposed the government allow blending operations in spe-
cial administrative areas at ports to help stabilize supplies of copper concentrates
and cut buying costs, according to a report by China Nonferrous Metals.
