In this talk we'll be showing you how to get your idea onto paper, by introducing the Happy Startup Canvas, your one page business plan. As you may know by now our purpose at the School is to 'help dreamers do' so this is a great opportunity to learn how we help entrepreneurs realise their vision on a day-to-day basis.

A Guide to Working with Startups at The Media KitchenThe Media Kitchen
We like to think we bridge Madison Avenue and Silicon Alley/Valley here at The Media Kitchen. We are attracted to innovative, inventive and entrepreneurial companies and have been working with hundreds, if not thousands over the years. There are some very important lessons we have learned and wanted to share them in this document. Much of the deck is a "talking" deck, meaning it was presented to the agency by Darren Herman in October 2013, so some slides have no words. Contact us for more context around the slides.

What are the digital transformation secrets of the world's most enduring companies: what do they do to build stability in times of constant change, and most importantly, how do they make their business "Futureproof."
More than ever before, well-established companies are succumbing to wave after wave of disruption from new entrants, new technologies, and new customer expectations. The pressure is on to adapt. As organizations begin to realize that digital transformation is the key to their survival in the age of technology-driven business, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that digital transformation is merely a technology investment play. It isn't.
There is a larger operational vision at play here, and the world's most adaptable companies have already figured out what it is.
Broken down into its core components, it consists of 7 operational pillars that help organizations accelerate digital transformation, manage change and turn disruption into a tireless engine of opportunity.

How Entrepreneur's grew their business with some tips direct from themRoisin King, FCIM, MBA
Written with Adele Barlow for CapabilityNZ this book is about Entrepreneurs talking about how they grew their business. Some of them didn't make it and one is now $1.5 billion. Now I am working on other projects it is a good time to reflect
The speed at which a business needs to evolve continues to accelerate. Consumers and employees have increasingly high expectations for how a company should operate and the services it should deliver, while entrepreneurs, business owners, and executive teams are increasingly under pressure on how to meet those expectations. Yet, despite this reality, many organizations continue to fall behind. The mid-market sector, in particular, tends to struggle the most with keeping up with our rapidly changing world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There
are things companies can do today, right now, that can make a huge difference in what happens tomorrow.
In today’s unpredictable landscape, with so many businesses at a proverbial fork in the road, it is the perfect time to unveil our future-proofing strategies to help you stay relevant, unlock hidden opportunities, and achieve unprecedented growth, all while living a happier and more fulfilled life.
Bluprints is a globally-unique staff engagement model which serves to create a high-performance culture in conjunction with leadership vision.
Bluprints offers a simple, cost effective means to reach your entire organisation to define a pertinent business agenda in your lingo and to engage people in improvement activities against set priorities.
This high impact | low effort process brings your unique, critical business drivers to life in a visual, measurable, actionable storyline, mapping action to business objectives and delivering an ROI that will show the process is self-funding in a reasonable timeframe.
Across the globe, poor employee engagement statistics highlight a significant profit leakage whilst employee loyalty brings customer loyalty when your people are respected and their collective intelligence is harnessed to deliver customer value.
Some of the South African companies who have and are still using the Bluprints Method ™ to great acclaim are Deloitte, EY, Primedia Broadcasting, STRATE, Alexander Forbes and Sanlam.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Only 13% of employees worldwide are engaged at work, according to Gallup's new 142-country study on the State of the Global Workplace. In other words, about one in eight workers -- roughly 180 million employees in the countries studied -- are psychologically committed to their jobs and likely to be making positive contributions to their organizations.
Business leaders worldwide must raise the bar on employee engagement. Increasing workplace engagement is vital to achieving sustainable growth for companies, communities, and countries.
Employee loyalty brings customer loyalty when your people are respected and their collective intelligence is harnessed to deliver customer value. Yet, across the globe, poor employee engagement statistics highlight a significant and urgent profit leakage. Traditional top down approaches are the culprit.
Could I perhaps interest you in a conversation about how Bluprints’ innovative model will help rapidly connect people to your bigger picture so that they can contribute their best?

What does your company do?
Journyx automates payroll, billing and cost accounting while easing management of

Was there a specific turning point when you realized your business was moving to
the next level?
Not really. Even though we are 16 years old, I feel like we are still a work in progress. If I
really stop to think about all of our accomplishments so far, however, I realize we’ve
achieved quite a bit.
What processes or procedures have you implemented that have helped grow your
company?
We’ve implemented better accounting practices so we have more insight into our
financials. We’ve also implemented trackable customer support so we can tell where we
are with open and completed customer cases. In general, we’ve added a number of
measurement systems that enable us to take off the blindfolds and drive with vision.
What is most rewarding about running your business?
When customers tell me how wonderfully one of our employees treated them.
What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
The 2000 tech meltdown and the 2009 recession were similar and both were hard to get
through. We had to cut employees which is a terrible thing for everyone. However, we
2. made it through the rough economic times and stayed in business which is a rarity among
technology companies of our time.
If you were starting over today, what would you do differently?
Wow, that’s a good question. I would do fewer giant experiments and more small ones.
That’s probably the best answer.
What advice do you have for other business owners?
Be different. Be unique. Be the only ‘fill in the blank’ that is out there and do it in a way that
people care about. Be first. Be different. Be crazy. Don’t be afraid to try something crazy. Do
something provable and relevant.
Please list any favorite books, tools or resources (software, website, etc.) you would
recommend for others:
I have many: anything by Clayton Christensen. Stratfor. The
Economist.Vistage. Neuromarketing.
What is something that people might be surprised to learn about you?
I eat at Casa De Luz (a vegan restaurant here in Austin) every morning after swimming
outdoors in Barton Springs (even all winter). I recently accompanied my son on a life-
changing retreat where he reversed his insulin-dependent Type I diabetes through diet
alone.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Focus on your personal health or your company will fail.
