Enterprise Social Networks
Selling the concept 1: The Theory
Connectivism
70:20:10
Push & Pull
Selling the concept 2: The convergence of
work and learning
 Technology will lead to routine or process driven
work being automated or outsourced
 Valued work is becoming more complex and change
is constant
 Individuals must take responsibility for own
development, but organisations can facilitate this
A Connected Workplace
 Provide a platform that workers can use to connect
over space and time
Benefits
 Connections will increase social capital
 Create two-way dialogue that will reduce distance
across the organisation and with leaders
 Provide workers with a voice they can use to make
meaningful contributions and receive recognition
Working Out Loud
A platform alone is not enough, workers need to
change their behaviour by incorporating ‘working out
loud’ into the flow of their work
 Talk about work in progress – projects you are in the
middle of, how they are coming on, what you are
learning
 Talk about finished goods
 Read about other peoples work and make
connections
 Comment on other peoples work
20 Year Old Paradigm
 Currently storing information in documents that are
saved in folders, which are then stored in a hierarchy
of other folders. Very difficult for anyone to retrieve
 Digital tools (including Yammer) are
searchable, display content in real time and tell us
what is happening now
 Organisations that can adapt will be
current, adaptable and in a far better position to
know what their customers want
