The study examined 5 cases with a history of high blood pressure and an unbalanced diet. Ultrasound images of the femoral arteries were analyzed for changes from the normal triphasic waveform pattern. Atherosclerosis was indicated by the presence of a biphasic waveform with prolonged diastole and reduced systole peaks, or a monophasic waveform with only a low systole peak and no diastole.
