EXERCISE FOR HEALTH
Early in the morning or in the early evenings, we often see people going for exercise.
They are found in housing estates, playing fields, parks, indoor courts or gymnasiums.
F I-=l The answer is obvious - exercise is important for health. Whether they are
playing games, walking, jogging or running, all have one goal in mind, that is, to keep
fit. Through exercise, one can maintain or improve one's health.
Besides keeping fit, one can relax through exercise. Many of us have a sedentary
type of life in the office or at home.
[71----l Indeed, we will feel relaxed and refreshed
after a round of exercise.
There is no better and cheaper way than to exercise, with the exception of bicycling,
angling or mountain climbing. For walking or jogging, there is no expensive equipment

should help them at all times as best as we can. We must not let them feel that they are not
wanted or are of no use in societY.
One simple way which we can help them is to visit them and make them feel happy.
t--31n If possible, all of them should be taught a skill, one that rn'ill enable them to fend
for themselves later.
Once they have acquired a skill, the public sector should provide job opportunities for
them, for example, being a telephone operator, weaving baskets and others. Some talented
ones have shown that they can draw and paint as well with their mouth or toes.

For each question, write the correct enswer (A-H) below.
Unhygienic Public Toilets
Many foreign tourists shower compliments on the many attractive places of interest
in Malaysia. However, they have lots of complaints about the public toilets.
Fil
As you can see, most public toilets in bus stations, railway stations, hypermarkets
and eating outlets are not well maintained. Much effort has been taken by the relevant
authorities but in vain.
/.______
.__.._-
To be fair, not all Malaysians are lacking in public hygiene. I :2. I I Many
public toilets have been frequented by vagrants, beggars and even trishaw riders. They
may even turn such toilets into their own shelter where they bathe and do their laundry.
one effective measure is to employ attendants to look after the toilets.
Fil
However, the situation is still far from satisfactory based on the many complaints from
foreign tourists.
"Many Malaysians still do not know how to use a toilet," said the manager of a
hypermarket. They seem to have a high tolerance for dirtiness. I don't really think that they
need toilet training. ( 34-=lTheir mindset must be changed. I do hope the relevant
authorities could carry out awareness campaigns."
The manager also proposed that operators of outlets with dirty toilets should be

solution.
Well, all Malaysians must realise that having clean toilets will raise the standard of
public hygiene. It will also improve the tourism industry
A Pan Asia Publications Sdn. Bhd KM4-1-10
A It is the vagrants who are to be blamed.
B The relevant authorities are not taking any action.
C They are quite right.
D Why is it so?
E Old habits die hard.
F Charge a nominal fee on those using the toilet.
G What is missing is their lack of civic-mindedness.

While the Moon orbits the Earth, it still rotates
on its own axis and at a speed that keeps the
same side facing the Earth at all times. The
'dark side of the Moon' perception is a
confused interpretation of the same side of the
Moon always facing Earth. If you look into the
sky from Earth, you will see the same side of

at since the beginning of time. It was not until
space travel that we were able to view the
mysterious far side of the Moon.

and Viola Louise Engel.
Armstrong was a naval aviator from 7949 to 1952 and served in the Korean War. Armstrong got a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University in 1955. He then received a Master of Science in
^{erospace Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1970. As a NASAtest pilof Armstrong flew the
X-15, a rocket-powered, missile-shaped aircraft that tested the limits of high-altitude flight. He flew more than 200
differentaircraft from jets to gliders and evenhelicopters.
Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed Neil Armstrong on the Moon. It lifted off from Florida's Cape
Canaveral in sight of vast crowds of people who camped there to watch the launch on July 16,7969. The crew
journeyed to the Moon for four days, arriving on ]uly 20. Armstrong explored the surface during a moonwalk that
lasted for two hours and thirty-six minutes. He collected 22 kilograms of material from the surface of the Moory
including 50 Moon rocks, as well as deploying experiments and planting the United States of America flag.
Neil Armstrong retired from NASA in1971and remained active in the aerospace community, although he

When we think about 2050, it seems like it is ages from now and we imagine a completely different
world, butin reality, itis justthirtyyears fromnow. Wemayprobablyknowwhatwill be possible to have
by that time. We have a lot of environmental and social problems, so let us see how technology may solve
themby2050.
According to Business Insider, space tourism could be feasible in 2050, but tikely ordy for the
very wealthy. Rocket companies like Jeff Bezo's Blue Origin and Elon Musk's SpaceX will push the
envelope with space travel enough that tourism will be feasible in the year 20E0.For example, someone
E who could afford to pay 100 million could spend a week in the orbit, but it would onlybe for rich peopleE
t in 2050. It is not going to be something that is cheap anytime soon.
Moreover, it is said that people could charge their iPhones with the power of a plant. Forests can
become the energy stations of the future. Now, it is becoming possible, for example, Bioo is a clean-tech
company capable of generating electricity from plantt photosynthesis. Apart from that, it is also
predicted that ocean thermal energy can take us to 100% renewable-energy. Ocean thermal energy, is a
largely untapped resource and one of the world's largest renewable energy sources. For example,
Bluerise is working on creating an energy breakthrough by generating utility-scale electricity through
ocean thermal energy conversion. It will be able to outcompete fossil fuel-based generation. It will play a
crucial role in the future, being one of the very few constant energy sources, available day and night,
year-round.
In addition, half of current jobs in the world are unlikely to exist in 2050, The world is changing
faster than we think and the way we learn things and what we learn should be changed. Employers
should create an engaging learning culture at work by empowering their staff to take ownership of their
professional development. There is a huge demand for developers in Europe, yet most information
Technology (IT) education is solely available in English. with2lofficial languages spoken in Europe
alone, it is no surprise that non-native English speakers prefer to learn in their own language. However,
you can start seeing many coding academies, schools and universities focused only on training junior
developers for specific companies'demand, being it a language or a practice. Even though this problem
would not be solved by 2020, with these new IT universities and academies, we can fix the situation by
2050.

Satellite Navigation
Since the beginning of time, human beings have looked to the sky to determine their whereabouts. FT---l
However, in the second millennium, constellations of man-made satellites have taken over as beacons to
guide the way. Using the fixed stars, you can determine your position anywhere on the Earth's surface to
within a few hundred metres, provided the weather is rir,".
[s;:T---l Enhanced instruments can even
pinpoint the position of a stationary object to within a few centimetres by measuring the object's position
many thousands of times over several hours and then working out the average of the measurements. All
you need to take advantage of this sophisticated new technology is a receiver to pick up signals transmitted
by navigational satellit"r. EI- l To pinpoint your location accurately, your receiver needs to receive
signalsfromatleastfournavigationalsatellites. F:l---l Distance measurements from two satellites
tell you that you are situated somewhere on the circle where two spheres intersect. f]---_-l Knowing
your distance from a third satellite fixes your position at one of the two points where the circle intersects the
third sphere F"t---_-]
(Adapted from esa.int)
KERTAS SOALAN TAMAT
A Navigation satellites, on the other hand, can tell you where you are to the nearest few metres, no
matter what the weather may be.
B The receiver determines your distance from each of the satellites by measuring the time taken by
the signal to travel from the satellite to your receiver antenna.
C Numerous errors can degrade the accuracy of a position measurement.
D The spheres each have one of the two satellites at their centre and their radii are the satellite-
receiver distances.
E It is only possible to determine a location on Earth if you know the location of the navigational
satellites very precisely.
F The receiver technology is small enough to be incorporated into the electronics of a car or mobile
phone and all our lives are changing as a result.
G One of the intersection points can usually be discounted, for instance, it may be thousands of
kilometres above the Earth's surface.
H Traditionally, the Sun and the pattern of fixed stars have been their guides.

He flew more than 200 differentaircraft from jets to gliders and evenhelicopters. Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed Neil Armstrong on the Moon. It lifted off from Florida's Cape Canaveral in sight of vast crowds of people who camped there to watch the launch on July 16,7969. The crew journeyed to the Moon for four days, arriving on ]uly 20. Armstrong explored the surface during a moonwalk that lasted for two hours and thirty-six minutes. He collected 22 kilograms of material from the surface of the Moory including 50 Moon rocks, as well as deploying experiments and planting the United States of America flag. Neil Armstrong retired from NASA in1971and remained active in the aerospace community, although he chose to keep mostly out of the public spotlight. • 11. 12t1 1! g =t I PT3 Set 3 Pafi 4 Read the text below nnd answer questions 25 to 34. When we think about 2050, it seems like it is ages from now and we imagine a completely different world, butin reality, itis justthirtyyears fromnow. Wemayprobablyknowwhatwill be possible to have by that time. We have a lot of environmental and social problems, so let us see how technology may solve themby2050. According to Business Insider, space tourism could be feasible in 2050, but tikely ordy for the very wealthy. Rocket companies like Jeff Bezo's Blue Origin and Elon Musk's SpaceX will push the envelope with space travel enough that tourism will be feasible in the year 20E0.For example, someone E who could afford to pay 100 million could spend a week in the orbit, but it would onlybe for rich peopleE t in 2050. It is not going to be something that is cheap anytime soon. Moreover, it is said that people could charge their iPhones with the power of a plant. Forests can become the energy stations of the future. Now, it is becoming possible, for example, Bioo is a clean-tech company capable of generating electricity from plantt photosynthesis. Apart from that, it is also predicted that ocean thermal energy can take us to 100% renewable-energy. Ocean thermal energy, is a largely untapped resource and one of the world's largest renewable energy sources. For example, Bluerise is working on creating an energy breakthrough by generating utility-scale electricity through ocean thermal energy conversion. It will be able to outcompete fossil fuel-based generation. It will play a crucial role in the future, being one of the very few constant energy sources, available day and night, year-round. In addition, half of current jobs in the world are unlikely to exist in 2050, The world is changing faster than we think and the way we learn things and what we learn should be changed. Employers should create an engaging learning culture at work by empowering their staff to take ownership of their professional development. There is a huge demand for developers in Europe, yet most information Technology (IT) education is solely available in English. with2lofficial languages spoken in Europe alone, it is no surprise that non-native English speakers prefer to learn in their own language. However, you can start seeing many coding academies, schools and universities focused only on training junior developers for specific companies'demand, being it a language or a practice. Even though this problem would not be solved by 2020, with these new IT universities and academies, we can fix the situation by 2050. ( Adapted from api umhub.com) 3(1)-6 @Alaf Sanlung $dn. Bhd. Choose from the sentences (A - H) to fit each gap (35 - 40). There are tuo extrn sentences which you do not need to use. For each question, mnrk the correct answer (A - H). Satellite Navigation Since the beginning of time, human beings have looked to the sky to determine their whereabouts. FT---l However, in the second millennium, constellations of man-made satellites have taken over as beacons to guide the way. Using the fixed stars, you can determine your position anywhere on the Earth's surface to within a few hundred metres, provided the weather is rir,". [s;:T---l Enhanced instruments can even pinpoint the position of a stationary object to within a few centimetres by measuring the object's position many thousands of times over several hours and then working out the average of the measurements. All you need to take advantage of this sophisticated new technology is a receiver to pick up signals transmitted by navigational satellit"r. EI- l To pinpoint your location accurately, your receiver needs to receive signalsfromatleastfournavigationalsatellites. F:l---l Distance measurements from two satellites tell you that you are situated somewhere on the circle where two spheres intersect. f]---_-l Knowing your distance from a third satellite fixes your position at one of the two points where the circle intersects the third sphere F"t---_-] (Adapted from esa.int) KERTAS SOALAN TAMAT A Navigation satellites, on the other hand, can tell you where you are to the nearest few metres, no matter what the weather may be. B The receiver determines your distance from each of the satellites by measuring the time taken by the signal to travel from the satellite to your receiver antenna. C Numerous errors can degrade the accuracy of a position measurement. D The spheres each have one of the two satellites at their centre and their radii are the satellite- receiver distances. E It is only possible to determine a location on Earth if you know the location of the navigational satellites very precisely. F The receiver technology is small enough to be incorporated into the electronics of a car or mobile phone and all our lives are changing as a result. G One of the intersection points can usually be discounted, for instance, it may be thousands of kilometres above the Earth's surface. H Traditionally, the Sun and the pattern of fixed stars have been their guides. 16 marks) 3(1)-8 @nlat Sanlung Sdn. Bhd. (516756-v)
