English Syllabus – Grade 7 – Mrs. Lloyd
Course Overview
Students will broaden their literacy repertoire through reading, writing, speaking, and
listening. With both literature and informational texts, students will learn to cite textual
evidence to support their analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn
from the text. Students will explore the difference between fact and opinion and engage in a
range of collaborative discussions to delineate a speaker’s claims and evidence. Many
opportunities will be provided for students to develop questioning and research strategies to
assist them in organizing and presenting information in oral, visual, and written formats.
Grammar will be taught in context and reinforced in various project-based and inquiry-based
writing assignments.

Students are expected to come to class with the following supplies.

every day. Students who lose their planner must pay a $5 replacement fee.)

Grades will be awarded based on the guidelines set forth by the Escambia County Schools
Secondary Grading Parameters.

2. Please note: Assignments which are not completed successfully in-class will become homework assignments and will count for
50% of the overall grade.
Absences/Missed Work
Students must attend class to be academically successful. Absences (excused and unexcused) will be dealt with in accordance with
Escambia County School’s attendance policies (Escambia County Student Code of Conduct). Students must provide a written
excuse for any absence. The excuse must be signed by a parent/guardian and turned in to the school office within (3) days after the
student returns to school.
Students who have excused absences will be allowed (3) days to make up missed work after returning to school. It is the student’s
responsibility to request and complete missed work. A grade of zero will be recorded if a student does not make up missed work on
time.
Tardiness
A student is considered tardy after 7:35 a.m. and must report to the office for a tardy pass. All tardies will be handled in accordance
with the Student Code of Conduct.

1. Come to class prepared and willing to contribute to a positive classroom climate.
2. Respect self, others, and school property.
3. Do not use profanity.
4. Cell phones are not allowed inside the school building.
5. Do not bring food or drinks in the classroom.
6. Follow all school rules written in the Student Code of Conduct.

If you do not want your child’s picture to be published in an academic setting and/or on any school publications or websites, you
must send a written/signed note to the teacher during the first week of school. Students may also publish short video clips from
time to time. If you do not want your child to be included in a student-created video, you must also indicate this on your note.
