Dasara, also known as VijayaDashami or Dussehra, is a Hindu festival celebrated in India that marks the victory of good over evil. It falls on the 10th day of the bright half of the month of Ashvin according to the Hindu calendar. The festival commemorates Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, who had kidnapped Rama's wife Sita. In Madikeri, Dasara is celebrated with processions, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Indrajit that are set ablaze, and it is seen as a time to inaugurate new beginnings and seek blessings.
