Diwali is a major Hindu religious festival that celebrates the victory of light over darkness. It is observed over five days, during which people decorate their homes with lights and rangoli patterns, perform worship ceremonies for Lakshmi and other deities, light fireworks, and share feasts and gifts with family. Diwali has grown to be celebrated by other Indian faiths as well, such as Jains honoring Mahavira and Sikhs commemorating Guru Hargobind's release from prison. The highlight is Lakshmi Puja on the third day, with the entire festival period culminating in the new moon.
