Pandas are in danger of extinction mainly due to habitat loss. Their main food source is bamboo, which takes a long time to grow. This was not an issue in the past when pandas lived throughout southeast Asia, including China, as they could simply move to new bamboo forests. However, as the forests have been cut down, pandas are finding it harder to find food after bamboo blooms die out. Siberian tigers also faced near extinction in the 1940s, with only 40 remaining in the wild due to hunting, though the population has since rebounded. Whales also face endangerment from over-hunting for their products, with some populations being reduced by over 99% in some areas due to commercial whaling
