The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay
It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private sector, but it
seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are even criminally charged.
There is certainly a different take on their activities. In fact, some advocates counsel federal
employees not to come forward with information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed
(Shulman, 2007). What often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again
in the same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but they lose
their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to attorneys (Shulman, 2007).
Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of whistleblowers... Show more content on

It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a corporate culture
that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in
many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected
from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in
general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are
doing something bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different
matter entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the Intelligence
Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a whistleblower of leaking
classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to occur, the simple accusation could lead
to the individual s blocking of access to federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in
retirement (Burghardt, 2011). One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is
Thomas Drake. Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The
government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one misdemeanor
in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What did Drake do exactly? Why
is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he been persecuted by the government? Drake

Swot Analysis For A Pharmacy
Every business has its strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. These days most of the
businesses do SWOT analysis for improvement. I work at a leading pharmacy in Newark, so I
decided to do a SWOT analysis on it. This pharmacy started business in 2012. I chose this business
because it is the ideal business to do the SWOT analysison, as it has its advantages and
disadvantages. The SWOT analysis allowed me to find all the flaws as well as advantages of the
pharmacyas well as ways to improve and to protect it from threats. If a business has many
weaknesses, the SWOT analysis can help the workers and owners of the business become aware
of it and can allow them to improve the business. So no harm or disadvantages come from doing
the SWOT analysis.
First advantage of the SWOT analysis is it identifies the strength of the business. The pharmacy I
work at has location, long term customers, and the acceptance of all health insurances as its
strength. The pharmacy I work at does not have any competitors nearby, the customers are regulars
and only get their medication from here, and accepting all health insurances allows us to have
more customers. The more customers, the more profit. The long term customers allow us to be
insured that our customers are loyal to us and will continue with our service. Being conscience of
all your business s strengths allows you to also see its weaknesses.
Believe it or not, but being aware of your businesses weaknesses is beneficial for you.

A Brief History of Antibiotics, Antibiotic Resistance, and Antibiotic Alternatives
Antibiotic Resistance and Alternatives
Antibiotics have been commonly, though mistakenly, thought of as the ultimate cure, for almost
all illness, for over half a century now. However, the intended use of antibiotics is for the
treatment of bacterial infections and diseases. Viruses or fungi related illnesses will not be
affected by antibiotics. This misunderstanding of the use of antibiotics has led to overuse, or the
misuse, of antibiotics, in a wide range of countries worldwide. As a result of overuse, misuse, and
abuse, antibiotics, once hailed as the savior of mankind, are an increasing threat as bacteria grow
ever stronger. (Bunyard) The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
aureus was one of the first publicized bacteria known to have become resistant to penicillin. (Ed.
Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) In London, just a few years after the introduction of penicillin, strains
of staphylococcus appeared that were resistant to penicillin, not simply by keeping it out, but by
actually destroying it. (Bunyard) S. aureus caused serious illnesses, such as pneumonia,
endocarditis, osteomylitis, and toxic shock syndrome. (Ed. Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) The clinical
impact of this resistance was staggering; this harmful pathogen had once again become untreatable.
Since the 1940 s, antibiotic production has increased rapidly. By 1946, in one hospital, 14% of
the strains isolated from patients had gained such resistance. In 1949, the U.S. produced
penicillin and streptomycin at the rate of 6.5 tons per month. (Bunyard) In the early 1950 s,
nearly 60% of the strains isolated from patients had gained resistance. (Bunyard) By 1954, the
rate of production of broad spectrum antibiotics had tripled to 220 tons a year. Today, the
quantity produced in the U.S. alone is 18,000 tons a year, nearly half of which is used in the
intensive rearing of animals as growth promoters and for controlling disease on the farm, which
itself is largely a product of closely confined livestock. In the U.K., the Swann Committee of 1969
warned of the dangers of antibiotic resistance from farmers using antibiotic growth promoters, and
recommended a ban specifically on the use

Censoring South Park
Dick Cavett, a famous American talk show host, once said, Censorship feeds the dirty mind more
than the four letter word itself. Censorship limits free speech, and it is used constantly today. In
South Park s situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial
issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable
techniques, does not mean that it is useless. In fact, South Parkhas taught people a lot; it changes
our point of view and encourages us to think deeply about the issues at hand while simultaneously
making us laugh. For people unfamiliar with South Park, it is an animated comedy television which
airs on Comedy Central. The show revolves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These groups do not only criticize the use of profanity in South Park.
Another huge controversy South Park has created is their depiction of religion. South Park has
parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the
episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS
church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS
church. The creators of South Park claim that any topic is subject to ridicule, but, because of the
Jyllands Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, South Park has censored images of Muhammad.
While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, which is something that the creators
never planned to do until this controversy arose they still mock the censorship controversy itself.
Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most
offensive parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South
Park, Jesus has his own talk show and appears to be just ordinary. As a recurring character, South
Park s Jesus has engaged in acts of speaking profanity, violence, and has been shown with the
inability to perform his miracles. Critics of the show say that these controversial portrayals confuse
and corrupt children.
The creators of South Park have defended these accusations of their show. Matt Stone, co creator of
South Park, says kids don t

The Recession Of The United States
I. Introduction
Ever since World War II the United States has experienced many recessions. There have been many
terrible recessions that have hit this great country hard. What is a recession people may wonder? A
recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It
is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The
technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as
measured by a country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a
dramatic and horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen
since WWII. The expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession
of 2001. Furthermore, this recession was difficult and was hard to deal with and overcome, because
during the time of this recession our country experienced 9/11.
II. Causes of the Recession
After the longest economic expansion in history, the U.S. experienced a recession in 2001. The
Recession of 2001 was relatively short, but still had its impact upon us Americans. Just like
many of the previous recessions our great country has faced, this one had many reasons as to
why we fell into a recession as well. Some of the reasons we experienced a recession in 2001 is,
because of the collapse of the dotcom bubble, the attack on 9/11, and a series of accounting attacks
at major U.S Corporations. The

Five Lessons Learned from “the Ugly American”
Introduction
There are tens of thousands of how to books, but The Ugly American is unique in that it s actually
a how not to book. Published in 1958, the action takes place in the early 1950s at the height of the
Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Set primarily in the fictional
Asian country of Sarkhan, the struggle between Russian Communists and American Foreign
Service personnel plays out battle by battle through examples of military and political events
riddled with Ugly American social faux pas.
In Lederer s and Burdick s book, the day by day business of American policy implementation and
foreign aid to other countries is described. Central to The Ugly American is the historical reality of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is interesting to see how foreign culture is seen through different eyes in each of the personal
mini stories that comprise this book.
Issue No. 3
Just as the character of Louis Krupitzyn takes many smart and savvy actions in The Ugly
American, he takes many unethical actions too. The one that stood out the most was when he
changes the wording on the labels of bags of American aid rice to read Gift of Russia in other
words, he takes credit for aid that isn t Russia s.
Almost everybody does his or her job with a goal in mind, and in a very tangible way, Krupitzyn s
action helped him get closer to his goal. But that doesn t make it right. Simply because his main
goal was to spread communism to Sarkhan within 30 months, taking credit for work that isn t yours
is unacceptable, even if it furthers your agenda. The ends do not justify the means.
Issue No. 4
One of the books most obvious arguments is that we spend billions on the wrong aid projects while
overlooking the almost costless and far more helpful ones. Sears undermines a Wisconsin dairyman
s self started project to raise nutrition levels in the Sarkhan countryВside, thwarts a band of anti
Communist irregulars formed by a militant Massachusetts priest, and orchestrates the dismissal of
his more capable successor, who fails to convince Washington of an impending coup. He does this
all because these efforts get in the way of his big, self serving plans that do not benefit

Introduction
In 1982, the Justice department ordered the separation of ATT into local subsidiaries. MCI was one
of the main competitors of AT T and the impact of this new competition on MCI was uncertain. In
this case the financial impact of this increased competition will be analyzed.
Analysis of External Financing Needs for MCI from 1983 to 1989
Please see Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2 MCI s external needs will keep increasing over the next few
years as the operating margins would shrink because of higher competition higher access charges.
In order to increase its market share, MCI would need to continue investing huge capitals in its

o Cost of debt in this case is 12.5% though MCI can raise $ 100 million more with this option in
comparison to option (a) above. Servicing this debt would be a significant drain on the cash
flow. o Please see Exhibit 3. (c) $600 million Convertible offering @ 7.625% 20 year with
conversion at 54 per share o Using this option MCI can raise $ 100 million more than option (b)
at 4.88% lower rate of interest. It also gives MCI an option to convert it to equity once the stock
price reaches 54 (it is currently 47). Based on previous convertible offerings (As per exhibit 6 of
case, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982), MCI has been converting it to equity within 18 months
because of its high growth. As higher growth is projected for the next few years (Exhibit 9 of
case), MCI is expected to convert this $600 million offering to equity, thereby reducing its leverage.
o This option allows to finance its current activities and match capital inflows with expected
investment outlays in the near future. It also allows MCI the option to eliminate the cash flow
drain from servicing the debt once the stock price increases. o As per Exhibit 3 attached here, this
offering will provide capital to meet the external financing needs for 1983.

Israel, a country slightly smaller than the U.S. state of New Jersey, is located in the Middle East.
It borders the Mediterranean Sea for a length of 168 miles. In the south and southwest, it borders

In 1977, a visit to Jerusalem by the Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, began a peace process

The Abilene Paradox
THE ABILENE PARADOX
If you have ever found yourself in a situation where you agreed with a group of people to take an
action, even if you believed that the outcome will definitely be the opposite of what you wanted to
achieve, just because you felt that you will be ridiculed or because you feared about separation
from the group, then you probably caught yourself in the nets of a paradox, The Abilene Paradox.
Abilene paradox is the phenomenon when a group of people agrees to an action which is opposed
to the feelings and thoughts of the individual members of the group. Jerry B. Harvey, Emeritus
Professor of Management at the George Washington University, introduced this term in his article
The Abilene Paradox: The Management of Agreement in 1974. The name Abilene comes from an
anecdote he used in his article which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Members of the organization privately, as individuals, understand the problem or the situation that
the organization faces and as individuals again decide about the appropriate solution for the
problem. But when the time comes to take a decision as a group, individuals fail to communicate
their thoughts to the other members of the organization, because they mistakenly think that their
own choices are against group believes. Therefore they are driven to make collective decisions
which are totally different from what they really wanted to do and the consequences of their
actions are to sharpen problems of the organization instead of solving them and also to create
anger and dissatisfaction among the members of the group, which commit subgroups and blame
the others for the downstream of the organization. All of the above seem to be absurd as
members of the group having fully aware of what they are doing, are taking actions which are
damned to fail. However there are more deep psychological reasons for these reactions which are

The Negative Aspects Of Keeping A Vehicle
Keeping a vehicle regularly maintained is imperative to a person s health and safety. As well as
his or her wallet. According to the American Automobile Association in 2014 more than two
million vehicles were towed for engine related issues and seventeen million due to battery failure,
flat tires, and keys locked inside a vehicle. In addition, thirteen percent of accidents were due to
mechanical failure. Keeping up with maintenance on a motor vehicle can drastically decrease the
chance of having larger repairs in the future, also diminishing the chance of mechanical related
accidents. Furthermore, consistently maintaining a vehicle and keeping proper records of
aforementioned maintenance can help maintain a higher resale value. A few moments of time can
extend the life of a car and bank account.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, an oil change, on average, takes only twenty to thirty minutes of time and only
costs approximately $40. However, if a car goes without periodic oil changes, there is a risk of
locking up the motor, which can cost thousands of dollars to repair plus be an inconvenience to
the driver by being without a vehicle while repairs are being completed. Not servicing a car on a
regular basis is more likely to cause costly, larger repairs more often and sooner than vehicles
serviced frequently.
Costly repairs are not the only consequence of not keeping a car tuned up. Chances of having a
accident due to failure increase greatly with neglect of regular maintenance. Brake failure, locked
up motors, and blown tires are just a few scenarios that could cause an accident. Warning lights,
smoking engines, and strange noises emitting from the vehicle can be dangerous for all drivers
around, as they can cause unnecessary distraction from the task of driving. Keeping a frequent
check on tires, fluid levels, and brakes could save money and possibly

Persuasive Essay On Duck Hunting
The reason that I would like to run a duck lodge and guide duck hunts is because duck hunting is
what I am most passionate about. There are thousands of duck lodges located all across North
America. Duck hunting has increased in popularity over the past 15 years mostly due in part to
the popularity of it on T.V. With that being said this has caused a large increase in the number of
lodges being created, to be able to keep up with the demand. Jobs in this field are found all over
North America, they range from Alaska all the way through Canada, and as well as all over
through South America. Jobs relating to this career are mostly found around high trafficked areas
of migrating waterfowl, places like Stuttgart, Arkansas (known as the rice and duckcapital of the
world), Salt Lake City, Utah, around many small towns in North Dakota, and the Outer Banks of
North Carolina. General duties of this field would be equipment maintenance, time management,
farming, earth moving, and lodge maintenance. Specific duties of this job would be agricultural
management for waterfowl, conservation efforts for waterfowl, and being successful when
guiding other people and ensuring clients safety. Hours of work ordinarily required for this job
could vary, duck guiding and hunting is very seasonal, most states only allow a general 60 day
season. During those 60 days you could be up 2 hours before sunrise and not going to sleep till

Theme Of Coming Of Age In Catcher In The Rye
The main character of J.D. Salinger s novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield is only in
his teens, attending High School, yet longs for his early childhood. He can be seen trying to hold
onto the past by acting various ways. The author, meanwhile, uses symbolism to demonstrate the
effects of a loss of innocence, and the effects of coming of age. J.D. Salinger s novel The Catcher
in the Rye shows, through moderately relatable eyes, the changes and realities that we must all
accept, and what we must lose as we all come of age, taking a step into the adult world.
Analyzing Holden s character as for a biography, the reader will likely conclude that he acts no
better than a hyperactive child; with little in the way of understanding the fact that all actions
come with consequences. There is what he likes which seems to be little and what he dislikes
which he often proceeds to call phony. His vocabulary is limited, vernacular simple, phrases
repetitious, and he frequently moves to tangents; Holden acts as a child would. He has held onto
what he perceives children doing, saying, thinking, and has incorporated that into himself. This is
not because he has yet to lose his innocence, but because he feels he must hold on to what he
believes he still has so that he may live a happy life. This is best seen by the reader when Holden
divulges into one of his previously mentioned tangents, which often take on a more somber or
aggressive tone towards something in the

Collective Behavior Of Causal Crowd
In the last five years I have gone through a lot of collective behaviors. The first one I m going to
be talking about is Causal Crowd. Every week I go to the store and I always see different people.
I never interact with them like I would if I were at work. The only way I would actually interact
with someone at the store is if I need to find out where an item is located at or someone says hi
to me as an act of kindness. A way I would get emotional at the store is if a cashier I treating
somebody with disrespect so when I get to the cashier I give them an attitude, relatively the same
the cashier had given to the prior customer they had ringed up for. Another collective behavior I
have been part of was moral panic. Recently Hurricane Matthew... Show more content on

Symbols In The Prodigal Son
The change over the time is described through various symbols. The sounds, smells, silences, and
even visual experiences contribute to this change. There is a sense of terror everywhere around.
Sound and silence contrast with each other but both appear as terrorizing in the text. No one

present are woven so well one loses track of time like Malte s grandfather. Everything around Malte
that he can sense or see contributes to the situation that Malte faces when he feels threatened.

However, it has been recreated in a new way. Rilke has transformed the whole story into
something else. The prodigal son is not the wasteful man as depicted in the Bible. He is the one
whom everyone loves, and it makes him feel vulnerable. He does not leave the house because he is
wasteful but because he cannot bear their love. Being loved is being overpowered and possessed. It
suffocates the one who is loved. He cannot be himself or be anything else than what the lover
imagines him to be. On the other hand, if he is the lover, there are immense possibilities for
him. He can be anything he wills because he is the one to control his life and his choices. When
the prodigal son comes to understand this, he is able to transcend himself. He is able to
understand the love of his family, and feels no more threatened by it. He is able to accept
himself as he becomes a changed self. He does not remain the beloved but turns into the lover.
However, he wants to be loved but in a way in which he would not feel suffocated as before.
There is only One who can love him like that because He lets man be and find himself. And only
then, He showers His love upon him. The prodigal son is yet to know himself completely. He is
on the way to find meanings. He is yet becoming. Therefore, there is still time for him to
accomplish what he needs to before He would love

Essay about symbolism in bless the beast and children
Throughout the novel Bless the Beasts and Children, by Glendon Swarthout, symbolism is used
frequently to show a weakness in a character or to fulfill a purpose in the novel. The most apparent
weaknesses in the bedwetters was their need for radios to help them sleep. The hats portrayed each
characters personality and background in some cases. Also, The Box CanyonBoys Camp is in itself
a symbol representing American society in general.
The radios are the first case of symbolism shown in the novel. They are used by each and every
one of the bedwetters at night to help them go to sleep. To them it helps to imagine someone is
right there with them when the radios are going. On some nights, like the one at the start of the
novel each of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hats were worn by all members of the bedwetters and each hat symbolized something about them.
For Cotton his choice of headgear was a military helmet that he strapped under his chin when he
was about to do something dangerous or manly . He chose this form of headgear because he was
very interested in Vietnam, which was going on at the time that this book took place. Cotton also
intended on enlisting when he turned 17 with dreams of becoming a general. The Lally brothers
each had matching bulky cowboy hats, showing that the parents just got them matching
everything to save time. Shecker wore a golfing hat signed by Arnold Palmer, obviously showing
his family has very important friends and no time for him. Teft wore and Africa korps hat
probably because he had dreams of being in the military as well but maybe not for the United
States. Lastly, Goodenow wore a Hopi Headband. Much like with the radios, the hats are also
thrown at the buffalo by the boys. They are obviously done with the hats and no longer want to bee
thought of by them. They want to be known for being themselves and for setting all of the buffalo
free from the preserve.
The Box Canyon Boys Camp is used by the author to portray the misconceptions America has about
its youth. They use all physical activities like baseball, shooting, and riding to determine the boys
standing and masculinity. This happens

Essay about Rollercoasters
Introduction:
You wait in line for what seems like forever and finally you take your seat. You pull the paddle
bars so they fit snug against your shoulders. You reach the top and then comes the big drop. You
start screaming or if you re daring you put your hands up and enjoy the ride. I m of course
speaking of roller coasters. Today I m going to go over the history, the different types of roller
coasters, the mechanics, and the most important part, safety of roller coasters.
History
The oldest roller coaster is believed to have originated from the so called Russian Mountains ,
which were specially constructed hills of ice, located around Saint Petersburg. Built in the 15th
century, the slides were built to a height between 70 and 80 ... Show more content on

Perhaps the best known historical roller coaster, The Cyclone, was opened at Coney Island in
1927. The Great Depression marked the end of the first golden age of roller coasters, and
amusement parks in general went into deterioration.
In 1959 the Disneyland theme park introduced a new design breakthrough with the Matterhorn
Bobsleds. This was the first roller coaster to use a tubular steel track. Unlike conventional rails set
on wooden railroad ties, tubular steel can be bent in any direction, which allows designers to
incorporate loops, corkscrews, and many other maneuvers into their designs. Most modern roller
coasters are made of steel, although wooden coasters are still being built. New designs and
technologies are pushing the limits of what can be experienced on the newest coasters.
Mechanics:
The cars on a typical roller coaster are not self powered. A standard full circuit coaster is pulled
up with a chain or cable along the lift hill to the first peak of the coaster track. The potential
energy accumulated by the rise in height is transferred to kinetic energy as the cars race down the
first downward slope. Kinetic energy is then converted back into potential energy as the train
moves up again to the second peak. This hill is necessarily lower, as some mechanical energy is
lost to friction. Not all rides feature a lift hill, however. The train may be set into motion by

Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau
In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses
his personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the
essay, Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration
of society Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure
instead of money, nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the
society is not participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration,
or already has deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions,
and others conflict. Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with
each belief, a different level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of
Thoreau s points, he or she may find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less
emphasis on monetary objects, but in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with
all of Thoreau s points, there would be a worse consequence: he or she could find themselves
unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial events, and without care for the environment.
Individual thought is required to interpret the many messages presented by Thoreau and find the
proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s and those of personal origination. Thoreau
believes that in the best scenario, people would work

What Does Arnold Shwarzenegger Mean
This is a man of bottomless ambition said George Butler, a very decorated film biographer.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the hardest working American icons I have ever read about.
Arnold overcame adversity in many ways to become one of the most know people in America
and all over the world. He started with nothing except his mother as his only positive motivation
in his early years. Arnold wasn t going to stop until he was the best at everything he wanted to
be. Acting was his big ticket to fame. What really help him though in his other aspects of life
was his bodybuilding. For me life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not
simply to exist, to survive, but move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer these are words
Arnold said himself and lived by. He was going to be the best he could be if it killed him trying.
Arnold s early years are what I think gives him his rights to be a True American Icon. He did not
have much as kid. He was the younger of two kids and his dad would regularly beat him because
he was the least athletic of the two. The brothers would fight all the time, the only relationship
he had with his family was his mother who taught him how to be the best he could be. She gave
him the discipline to be the he needed to be a bodybuilder. His father disapproval and beating was
his motivation. No one wants to be the little guy. He started body when he was fifteen. Won

Nature And Nurture In In Cold Blood By Perry Smith
A debate on whether or not Perry Smith was more controlled by nature and nurture when
committing crimes is a hot topic. Most solemnly believe that this is what manipulated the
actions that Perry took. According to www.simplypsychology.org, Nature is what we think of as
pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is
generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure,
experience and learning on an individual. Due to Perry Smith s exposure to abuse, the
abandonment emotionally and physically from his family, and influential behavior from Dick, it
led him to making extreme actions such as committing murder and other crimes. Capote, in In
Cold Blood , helps portray Perry Smith the way those in Holcomb view him while also
frequently adding in his personal life throughout the novel, such as him being abused while he
was under the care of nuns and those running the shelter. In the novel, Perry goes into detail as to
how he was abused, he even said that he remembered it all. At the Catholic orphanage he was
abused for wetting the bed constantly, She woke me up. She had a flashlight, and she hit me with
it. Hit me and hit me. And when the flashlight broke, she went on hitting me in the dark (p. 58)
Then, after his mother died, Perry s father took him but left him in a Salvation Army shelter where
he was abused for not only bed wetting but for being half Indian as well, There was

Feudalism
Explain how the system known as feudalism worked in Medieval Europe.
The bases of feudalism is best described as a social system in Europe throughout the Middle Ages
where individuals worked and battled for upper class who gave them protection and the use of the
land in return for their services (Merriam Webster). Feudalism is not a medieval term and not even a
translation of a medieval concept (Abels 2010; Brown 2010; Bouchard 1998). In our day and time
Feudalism would be difficult and baffling in several ways, but some may feel that we would
benefit from it.
During this time the social class depended on how much land you owned. Royalty in your Kings

What was its impact on the mission of the church?
The Church was the absolute most predominant foundation in medieval life, its impact invading
practically every part of individuals lives. Its religious observances often shape to the plan; its
customs checked every minute in a person s life; and its lessons supported standard convictions
about morals, the significance of life and existence. Church in Western Europe was recognized as
the Roman Catholic Church went from the religion of the Roman Empire to the official religion
and the most powerful institution of the Middle Ages. All of Europe had been converted to
Christianity by the year 1000. Although this process was peaceful at times but other times it got
downright ugly.
The inclusion of the church in the system became a political reality. The unsettled conditions
caused by the Viking and Magyar invasions forced church officials to enter into close relations
with the only power able to offer them protection. Bishops and abbots thus became vassals,
receiving fiefs for which they were obligated to provide the usual feudal services. The

Descriptive Essay About Father
A warm smile and kind eyes is what attributes to a man, known as my father. He works hard and
is diligent, but what defines him is the kindness that is always visible within him. My father, Ben
Morgan, is forty eight with light brown hair, and turquoise eyes that always have a sense purpose
in them. From years of thinking, he has lines that rest by his eyes accompanied by the usual lines
that encircle a smile he shows to all. My father has a kindness in him, in which no one in our family
has. A few examples are: helping strangers in need, doing charityevents, and putting his family
above all else.
In particular, what makes my father have this kindness is he assists strangers in need. To
explain, one day we were driving to a Lowes near our house, I had not noticed, but apparently
two older ladies were walking in the opposite direction and one of them had fallen. My father had
seen this and when it was safe to do so had turned around in the silver dodge ram truck he was
driving. Once he caught up to them he had offered a ride to them, and it had turned out one of
the woman had a medical condition that was affecting her there and then. Thankfully it was not
too serious, but it had prevented her from walking normally. Once we reached their destination,
they thanked my father and praised him. While helping the two older ladies may be seen as a task
anyone would do, no one else had stopped, pulled over, and offered assistance to the two older
ladies. In today s world it is very

A Report On Bottled Water Market
FROM LINEAR TO CIRCULAR
I decided write a report on bottled water as it is the fastest growing beverage in the world with no
signs of demands for it abating in the near future. According to a new market report published by
Transparency Market Research global bottled water market was valued at $157.27 billion in 2013,
which is expected to reach $279.65 billion by 2020, growing at a rate of 8.7% from 2014 to 2020.
By volume, global bottled water market is expected to grow at a rate of 8.3% during the forecast
period from 2014 to 2020 to reach a market size of 465.12 billion litres by 2020. In 2013, volume
of the market was 267.91.billion litres. The global bottled water market is dominated by Asia,
Europe, Mexico and the US, which account for over 60% of the market value with strong
growth in India. Over the past five years alone, bottled water has increased its share of stomach
of the overall beverage market from 14.4 percent in 2009, to 17.8 percent in 2014. It is predicted
that by 2016 bottled water will be the number one packaged beverage sold in the United States.
The demand is down to rising concern for health and wellbeing and also clever marketing
campaigns and bottle designs.
With this sustained demand for bottled water it is imperative that the production process for bottled
water should be modeled on the circular economy to ensure that the materials and resources
required for the production be re used and replenished. Bottled water is produced by taking water

Difference Between Nation And State
Professor Now, we re all familiar, I think, with the United Nations organization, and we re very
accustomed to a world divided into nations but many of you may not realize how recent the idea
of the nation state really is. Most of the history of civilization s been a history of much smaller
units from primitive tribes to Greek city states and later of the much larger units usually called
empires. The concept of a political and cultural nation, as we know it today, didn t appear until near
the end of the 18th century, at the time of the French and American Revolutions. Let s look at a
couple of terms first, just to make them clear. Strictly speaking, a nation is a cultural concept a
group of people in a particular area who are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So maybe we d better take a more careful look at the factors that seem to contribute to the idea of
nation statehood . First, geography is an obvious factor. Countries like Japan and New Zealand
have very clear boundaries, and their physical isolation makes these nations very homogeneous.
However, geography is often irrelevant Ireland and Cyprus are certainly very strongly divided
islands. And many countries, notably African countries, have boundaries that have nothing to do
with natural features or ethnicity or anything else. They are simply straight lines drawn in the last
century by former colonial powers. Is there a question?
Student Yes! Isn t the language also a determining factor?
Professor Indeed! And then there s language, which is also used as a rationale for nationhood. The
United States and Germany and France are all large, successful states that are defined mostly by
language. But on one hand, many international boundaries cut directly across language lines, as
with Belgium and The Netherlands while on the other hand, countries like South Africa and India
include speakers of many different languages. And a common ethnicity that is, a common genetic
background and a common cultural heritage have certainly helped determine the identity of many
nation states.

What Is the Relationship of Indian Tribes to Their...
Claire Wendel #20 What is the relationship of Indian tribes to their environment, and how is it

environment. They defined themselves by their land and by the sacred places that bounded and
shaped their world. Most lived in lived in relatively small units close to the earth, living off of its

loss, location, and resource wealth or poverty), exploitation of land, and changing Indian needs,
attitudes and religious demands define the issues the Indians and their environment faced. The

Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay
Bona fide occupational qualification and the military
Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color,
religion, sex and national origin. Contrary to title VII, gender and religion under the bona fide
occupational qualification allows discrimination for certain jobs that calls for a particular group,
age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United
States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States
military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The age limit for joining the

The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to
meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has
shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they
are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send
women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year.
The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male
is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they
are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat
roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them
the opportunity to serve as navy seals by striking down outdates restrictions and perceptions of

The Risk Factors For Entering Street Level Prostitution
Several studies have been conducted looking at the risk factors for entering street level prostitution,
the characteristics of those involved, and the barriers to exiting. For example, Kramer and Berg
(2003) examined the influence of minority status, education level, and the experience of risk factors
(such as physical and sexual abuse) on entry into prostitution. It is important to learn why women
enter prostitution in order to better learn what barriers may be trapping them in the work. Women
were located and surveyed through a program set up for prostitutes that worked both inside and
outside of a women s prison. The study found that half of the women were physically or sexually
abused and that continuing education reduced the risk of women entering prostitution (Kramer
Berg, 2003).
Mansson Hedin (1999) found that 75% of women involved in street level prostitution had had
difficult childhoods, characterized by sexual and physical abuse, negative relationships with
parents, and rape experiences. This is similar to what Kramer and Berg (2003) found, that 49% of
women involved in sex work had been physically abused by a family member and 47% had been
sexually abused. The lack of emotional support from their families and their desensitization of
abuse are major risk factors for women entering prostitution.
Baker and Winebarger (2004) gathered information on health problems, feelings of stigmatization,
life satisfaction, and literacy skills of women who are involved in

Cocaine Argument Essay
another problem of equal or bigger importance than deforestation: chemical pollution. Extracting
cocaine from coca leaves is not an easy thing to do and it requires the use of many dangerous
chemicals who end up in the ground and in nearby sources of water. For instance, mainly in
Columbia (Andean region), U.S. State Department studies show that 10 million liters of sulfuric
acid, 16 million liters of ethyl ether, 8 million liters of acetone, and from 40 770 million liters of
kerosene are dumped in the ground by cocaineproducers every year (Crowder 1). This is a serious

of the Tang Empire, Emperor Tang Taizong contributed to the ultimate success of his dynasty by
controlling the influence of elite families and officials. In an analysis of the Tang Period, Paul

The Is The Heartbeat Of Every Human Enterprise Essay
Hope Deferred Hope is the heartbeat of every human enterprise. It s the power of reason and the
fuel of passion for man s constant pursuit to improve his living conditions and reach unattained
goals. Hope reflects the ethos of its subject and the nature of its object. To know the essence of a
person it suffices to discover his/her hope. To know the reliability of our hope it is necessary to
uncover the liability of what we hope in. The need for redemption feeds hope. The redemption of
a carnal man is self sufficiency (Jeremiah 9:23 24); paradoxically the redemption of the spiritual
man is God dependency (Jeremiah 29:11). Strong s Concordance tiqvah: cord (6965) Original

How Did Roman Music Influence Ancient Greek Culture
When a person hears Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome he probably envisions great military battles
or grand columns that adorn every structure. However, music, while not as equally honored as the
Colosseum, still deserves recognition for playing an integral part in citizens lives during ancient
times. While knowledge of ancient Greek and Roman musicis limited to fragments of old music
scores from the era, literary references, and the actual remains of musical instruments, society will
still benefit from studying these rich ancient cultures. Obviously, music from both these
civilizations are extremely similar to each other in the role it plays in society and the instruments
used due to the influence of ancient Greeceon Rome.
In both cultures, music played a large role in society. In Ancient Greece, music was essential to...

This high regard for music in life stemmed from Greek mythology itself. For example, Amphion
learned music from the Greek god Hermes and then with a golden lyre, he built Thebes by
moving stones into place with the sound of his playing. There also many references to indicate
that music played an important role in the Greek perception of how their race had come into
existence and how their destinies were controlled by the Gods. Other artistic forms, such as
literature, praise music as well: most of the known Greek poetry and dramas today were sung or
accompanied by music in ancient times. Professional musicians were well respected and people
who achieved small accomplishments in music were regarded as cultural and tasteful.

Sacrifice In The Giver
Sacrifice, this word is powerful for it has endless meanings among different individuals.
Sacrificing is very common in today s world, you may see someone donating items to a charity or
lending some money to a friend, but these sacrifices are considered miniscule when compared to
true sacrifice. True sacrificeis offering something that is of massive importance to that person for
example in one such novel The Giver, Lois Lowry writes about how the protagonist Jonas made
the sacrifice of his life in order to unshackle the chains of his society and allow its citizens to gain
the knowledge that he thinks they are required to know, as well as save the life of a child. The
child in The Giver is known as Gabriel, and is used in the story as a scapegoat in order for Jonas
to pursue his goal of sharing his memories. In his society, imperfection is frowned upon and

Mythology in Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were...
Mythology is a key part of many of Zora Neale Hurston s short stories and novels. She researched
the stories of her home town and many other areas of the world. Hurston used this knowledge of
myths and stories to help her carry them on to later generations in a form that almost everybody
could relate to. Through out all of Zora Neale Hurston s stories, mythology has been a crucial
keystone. Her novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, has been influenced by three different ancient
myths: the myths of Ezili Freda, Osirisand Isis, and Aphrodite and Adonis.
Janie s love for nature and turbulent relationships comes from the myth of the Haitian Goddess of
love, Ezili Freda. In the novel the main character, Janie, is deeply interested in love and ... Show

But this relationship is cut short by Adonis getting attacked and castrated by a wild boar (Stine).
Later, Adonis bled to death (Stine). After her first three husbands Janie finally found a man she
could be with, Tea Cake. And going along with the myth of Aphrodite and Adonis, Janie must
stand by and watch as Tea Cake is attacked by an animal which in Hurston s story was a dog. She
ends up having to kill him and watch him die as did Aphrodite with Adonis.
One of the largest mythological influences on Their Eyes Were Watching God is the myth of Isis
and Osiris. Ishtar is a goddess associated with love and was very callous with the men that she
loved. (Pondrom 181). Ishtar fell in love with a God by the name of Tammuz and eventually
ended up being responsible for his death (Pondrom 181). She descended into the underworld and
was successful in bringing him back and she lived at peace (Pondrom 181). We see strong
parallels to this myth in Their Eyes Were Watching God. After multiple loveless relationships
Janie fell in love with Tea Cake. She eventually had to kill him because he had rabies. Later, she
was able to restore him to her memory, bringing her peace. Isis and Osiris were in love, but this
relationship did not last long once Osiris was killed (Pondrom 181). Osiris body was sent out on a
ship and Isis goes to retrieve the body and is able to partially restore him (Pondrom 181). Again, a
myth with Isis losing her love and being able to restore them

What Is Polygamy A Subculture
If you have never heard of polygamy you will and if you had in the past it was most likely due to
the hit reality series Sister Wives about a polygamist family in the state of Utah. Polygamy is
defined as the practice or condition of having more than one spouse at a time. Polygamy is
nothing new and has been practice for hundreds of years but it is now seen as an immoral act, and
a criminal act in a large majority of the of the world. Now even though polygamyis wide known in
certain areas like Africa (South Africa, Kenya), Asia (middle east), etc. Still there are rules that
they must abide by and it frowned on in an obese manner in areas like the United States,
Australia, and China, because as a society we see it as an unjust act that can not be upheld by any
justification but it is permitted in the bible. I support polygamy because I see no fault in the act of
a familywith multiple spouses.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Origins of Voodoo Essay
The Origins of Voodoo Voodoo is a religion rich in heritage and founded in faith and community.
The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as
malignant and dangerous. The religion is not founded in any of the (known) black magics or fear
popularized by Hollywood films, but rather it is based on balance and tradition. The religion is
not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror
stories, but embraced for its strength and history. Voodoo originated as an amalgam of African
religions during the slave trade. As slaves were shipped from Africa to the Caribbean, groups of
slaves sharing a similar heritage were broken apart to prevent any sense of... Show more content on

In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and
independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave
owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of
plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly
throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as
means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were
deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of
voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be
frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way,
but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of
human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be.
Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the
Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. These
religions lay the groundwork for the course of religious ceremonies and contain the origins for the
deities worshipped in modern voodoo. Voodoo?s principle deity, Olorun is the voodoo equivalent to
God. Though the name can be traced to the Yoruba tribe, it is unknown if

Conor I thought the Wizard of Oz was a bright and colorful moving. Being a movie that was
transitioning from a black film to color it really emphasized every single color imaginable. All
the colors remind of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Candyland. I like how Emerald city
stayed true to one color to make it unique which was green. It really conveyed to the audience
why it was called Emerald City just of its color scheme alone. I felt bad for the tin man because
all that makeup must of been hard to wear? I loved the color scheme that the wicked Witch of the
West had. The dark green paint on her face and mole really captured the essence of evil. Dorothy

Analyzing The Evangelist Portraits By The Codex Amiatinus
Abstracts
Nick Baker (Princethorpe College)
Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus
The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the
years. Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed
within a jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the
portraits and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention
they so rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider
artistic context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It
will also highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet
light, which has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been
known. Meg Boulton (University of York)

century manuscript produced in Northumbria intended as a papal gift to Rome, giving particular
attention to the Tabernacle diagram, or Temple page of the Codex as it has been variously identified
(fols IIv‒IIIr), in the context of the two other miniatures in the manuscript. Differing groups of
scholars argue that the conceptually

personal opinions on the English language and its variations in this country and others. How does
this opening set up your expectations for the rest of the essay? Why do you think she chose to

Understanding Of Cultural And Contextual Consideration Of...
Throughout the interactive orals, my understanding of cultural and contextual consideration of
Antigone by Sophocles has developed. You must receive further information about the playwright,
the role of women, and the symbols used in Antigone to have a full understanding of the play.
Without the knowledge provided from the interactive orals, the play would not have been
understood as well as it is now.
To understand the importance and meaning of Antigone, you must understand the playwright and
his purpose of writing the play. In his play, Sophocles illustrates the rival claims of the state and
the individual conscience. He does so by using the dramatic story of a young woman, Antigone,
who refuses to follow the law of her uncle, King Creon, on behalf of her brother s burial.
You must also understand the role of a woman during this time period to better understand this play.
Men were superior to women. Women were considered as the property of their husbands. This
meant women were expected to obey any and everything men said without questioning. This helps
readers understand why Antigone is going against her uncle s law to not bury her brother, which
resulted in such a punishment. Without this knowledge, the readers would not understand what
caused all of the conflict that resulted in the play.
To better understand Antigone, you must understand the symbols included in the play. Several very
significant symbols are represented by Antigone and Creon. These symbols are woman

  • 2. The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private sector, but it seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are even criminally charged. There is certainly a different take on their activities. In fact, some advocates counsel federal employees not to come forward with information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed (Shulman, 2007). What often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again in the same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but they lose their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to attorneys (Shulman, 2007). Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of whistleblowers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a corporate culture that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are doing something bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different matter entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the Intelligence Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a whistleblower of leaking classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to occur, the simple accusation could lead to the individual s blocking of access to federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in retirement (Burghardt, 2011). One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is Thomas Drake. Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one misdemeanor in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What did Drake do exactly? Why is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he been persecuted by the government? Drake warned the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Swot Analysis For A Pharmacy Every business has its strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. These days most of the businesses do SWOT analysis for improvement. I work at a leading pharmacy in Newark, so I decided to do a SWOT analysis on it. This pharmacy started business in 2012. I chose this business because it is the ideal business to do the SWOT analysison, as it has its advantages and disadvantages. The SWOT analysis allowed me to find all the flaws as well as advantages of the pharmacyas well as ways to improve and to protect it from threats. If a business has many weaknesses, the SWOT analysis can help the workers and owners of the business become aware of it and can allow them to improve the business. So no harm or disadvantages come from doing the SWOT analysis. First advantage of the SWOT analysis is it identifies the strength of the business. The pharmacy I work at has location, long term customers, and the acceptance of all health insurances as its strength. The pharmacy I work at does not have any competitors nearby, the customers are regulars and only get their medication from here, and accepting all health insurances allows us to have more customers. The more customers, the more profit. The long term customers allow us to be insured that our customers are loyal to us and will continue with our service. Being conscience of all your business s strengths allows you to also see its weaknesses. Believe it or not, but being aware of your businesses weaknesses is beneficial for you. ... • 6. A Brief History of Antibiotics, Antibiotic Resistance, and... A Brief History of Antibiotics, Antibiotic Resistance, and Antibiotic Alternatives Antibiotic Resistance and Alternatives Antibiotics have been commonly, though mistakenly, thought of as the ultimate cure, for almost all illness, for over half a century now. However, the intended use of antibiotics is for the treatment of bacterial infections and diseases. Viruses or fungi related illnesses will not be affected by antibiotics. This misunderstanding of the use of antibiotics has led to overuse, or the misuse, of antibiotics, in a wide range of countries worldwide. As a result of overuse, misuse, and abuse, antibiotics, once hailed as the savior of mankind, are an increasing threat as bacteria grow ever stronger. (Bunyard) The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... aureus was one of the first publicized bacteria known to have become resistant to penicillin. (Ed. Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) In London, just a few years after the introduction of penicillin, strains of staphylococcus appeared that were resistant to penicillin, not simply by keeping it out, but by actually destroying it. (Bunyard) S. aureus caused serious illnesses, such as pneumonia, endocarditis, osteomylitis, and toxic shock syndrome. (Ed. Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) The clinical impact of this resistance was staggering; this harmful pathogen had once again become untreatable. Since the 1940 s, antibiotic production has increased rapidly. By 1946, in one hospital, 14% of the strains isolated from patients had gained such resistance. In 1949, the U.S. produced penicillin and streptomycin at the rate of 6.5 tons per month. (Bunyard) In the early 1950 s, nearly 60% of the strains isolated from patients had gained resistance. (Bunyard) By 1954, the rate of production of broad spectrum antibiotics had tripled to 220 tons a year. Today, the quantity produced in the U.S. alone is 18,000 tons a year, nearly half of which is used in the intensive rearing of animals as growth promoters and for controlling disease on the farm, which itself is largely a product of closely confined livestock. In the U.K., the Swann Committee of 1969 warned of the dangers of antibiotic resistance from farmers using antibiotic growth promoters, and recommended a ban specifically on the use ... • 7. Censoring South Park Dick Cavett, a famous American talk show host, once said, Censorship feeds the dirty mind more than the four letter word itself. Censorship limits free speech, and it is used constantly today. In South Park s situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable techniques, does not mean that it is useless. In fact, South Parkhas taught people a lot; it changes our point of view and encourages us to think deeply about the issues at hand while simultaneously making us laugh. For people unfamiliar with South Park, it is an animated comedy television which airs on Comedy Central. The show revolves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These groups do not only criticize the use of profanity in South Park. Another huge controversy South Park has created is their depiction of religion. South Park has parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS church. The creators of South Park claim that any topic is subject to ridicule, but, because of the Jyllands Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, South Park has censored images of Muhammad. While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, which is something that the creators never planned to do until this controversy arose they still mock the censorship controversy itself. Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most offensive parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South Park, Jesus has his own talk show and appears to be just ordinary. As a recurring character, South Park s Jesus has engaged in acts of speaking profanity, violence, and has been shown with the inability to perform his miracles. Critics of the show say that these controversial portrayals confuse and corrupt children. The creators of South Park have defended these accusations of their show. • 8. The Recession Of The United States I. Introduction Ever since World War II the United States has experienced many recessions. There have been many terrible recessions that have hit this great country hard. What is a recession people may wonder? A recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a dramatic and horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen since WWII. The expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession of 2001. Furthermore, this recession was difficult and was hard to deal with and overcome, because during the time of this recession our country experienced 9/11. II. Causes of the Recession After the longest economic expansion in history, the U.S. experienced a recession in 2001. The Recession of 2001 was relatively short, but still had its impact upon us Americans. Just like many of the previous recessions our great country has faced, this one had many reasons as to why we fell into a recession as well. Some of the reasons we experienced a recession in 2001 is, because of the collapse of the dotcom bubble, the attack on 9/11, and a series of accounting attacks at major U.S Corporations. The ... Published in 1958, the action takes place in the early 1950s at the height of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Set primarily in the fictional Asian country of Sarkhan, the struggle between Russian Communists and American Foreign Service personnel plays out battle by battle through examples of military and political events riddled with Ugly American social faux pas. In Lederer s and Burdick s book, the day by day business of American policy implementation and foreign aid to other countries is described. Central to The Ugly American is the historical reality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is interesting to see how foreign culture is seen through different eyes in each of the personal mini stories that comprise this book. Issue No. 3 Just as the character of Louis Krupitzyn takes many smart and savvy actions in The Ugly American, he takes many unethical actions too. The one that stood out the most was when he changes the wording on the labels of bags of American aid rice to read Gift of Russia in other words, he takes credit for aid that isn t Russia s. Almost everybody does his or her job with a goal in mind, and in a very tangible way, Krupitzyn s action helped him get closer to his goal. But that doesn t make it right. Simply because his main goal was to spread communism to Sarkhan within 30 months, taking credit for work that isn t yours is unacceptable, even if it furthers your agenda. The ends do not justify the means. Issue No. 4 One of the books most obvious arguments is that we spend billions on the wrong aid projects while overlooking the almost costless and far more helpful ones. Sears undermines a Wisconsin dairyman s self started project to raise nutrition levels in the Sarkhan countryВside, thwarts a band of anti Communist irregulars formed by a militant Massachusetts priest, and orchestrates the dismissal of his more capable successor, who fails to convince Washington of an impending coup. He does this all because these efforts get in the way of his big, self serving plans that do not benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MCI was one of the main competitors of AT T and the impact of this new competition on MCI was uncertain. In this case the financial impact of this increased competition will be analyzed. Analysis of External Financing Needs for MCI from 1983 to 1989 Please see Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2 MCI s external needs will keep increasing over the next few years as the operating margins would shrink because of higher competition higher access charges. (b) $500 million of 12.5% 20 year subordinated debentures o Cost of debt in this case is 12.5% though MCI can raise $ 100 million more with this option in comparison to option (a) above. Servicing this debt would be a significant drain on the cash flow. o Please see Exhibit 3. (c) $600 million Convertible offering @ 7.625% 20 year with conversion at 54 per share o Using this option MCI can raise $ 100 million more than option (b) at 4.88% lower rate of interest. It also gives MCI an option to convert it to equity once the stock price reaches 54 (it is currently 47). The Abilene Paradox THE ABILENE PARADOX If you have ever found yourself in a situation where you agreed with a group of people to take an action, even if you believed that the outcome will definitely be the opposite of what you wanted to achieve, just because you felt that you will be ridiculed or because you feared about separation from the group, then you probably caught yourself in the nets of a paradox, The Abilene Paradox. Abilene paradox is the phenomenon when a group of people agrees to an action which is opposed to the feelings and thoughts of the individual members of the group. Jerry B. Therefore they are driven to make collective decisions which are totally different from what they really wanted to do and the consequences of their actions are to sharpen problems of the organization instead of solving them and also to create anger and dissatisfaction among the members of the group, which commit subgroups and blame the others for the downstream of the organization. According to the American Automobile Association in 2014 more than two million vehicles were towed for engine related issues and seventeen million due to battery failure, flat tires, and keys locked inside a vehicle. In addition, thirteen percent of accidents were due to mechanical failure. Keeping up with maintenance on a motor vehicle can drastically decrease the chance of having larger repairs in the future, also diminishing the chance of mechanical related accidents. He can be seen trying to hold onto the past by acting various ways. The author, meanwhile, uses symbolism to demonstrate the effects of a loss of innocence, and the effects of coming of age. J.D. Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye shows, through moderately relatable eyes, the changes and realities that we must all accept, and what we must lose as we all come of age, taking a step into the adult world. Analyzing Holden s character as for a biography, the reader will likely conclude that he acts no better than a hyperactive child; with little in the way of understanding the fact that all actions come with consequences. There is what he likes which seems to be little and what he dislikes which he often proceeds to call phony. His vocabulary is limited, vernacular simple, phrases repetitious, and he frequently moves to tangents; Holden acts as a child would. He has held onto what he perceives children doing, saying, thinking, and has incorporated that into himself. This is not because he has yet to lose his innocence, but because he feels he must hold on to what he believes he still has so that he may live a happy life. This is best seen by the reader when Holden divulges into one of his previously mentioned tangents, which often take on a more somber or aggressive tone towards something in the ... He cannot be himself or be anything else than what the lover imagines him to be. On the other hand, if he is the lover, there are immense possibilities for him. He can be anything he wills because he is the one to control his life and his choices. When the prodigal son comes to understand this, he is able to transcend himself. He is able to understand the love of his family, and feels no more threatened by it. He is able to accept himself as he becomes a changed self. He does not remain the beloved but turns into the lover. However, he wants to be loved but in a way in which he would not feel suffocated as before. The Great Depression marked the end of the first golden age of roller coasters, and amusement parks in general went into deterioration. In 1959 the Disneyland theme park introduced a new design breakthrough with the Matterhorn Bobsleds. This was the first roller coaster to use a tubular steel track. Unlike conventional rails set on wooden railroad ties, tubular steel can be bent in any direction, which allows designers to incorporate loops, corkscrews, and many other maneuvers into their designs. Most modern roller coasters are made of steel, although wooden coasters are still being built. New designs and technologies are pushing the limits of what can be experienced on the newest coasters. Mechanics: The cars on a typical roller coaster are not self powered. A standard full circuit coaster is pulled up with a chain or cable along the lift hill to the first peak of the coaster track. The potential energy accumulated by the rise in height is transferred to kinetic energy as the cars race down the first downward slope. Kinetic energy is then converted back into potential energy as the train moves up again to the second peak. This hill is necessarily lower, as some mechanical energy is lost to friction. • 21. Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses his personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the essay, Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration of society Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure instead of money, nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the society is not participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration, or already has deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions, and others conflict. Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with each belief, a different level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of Thoreau s points, he or she may find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less emphasis on monetary objects, but in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with all of Thoreau s points, there would be a worse consequence: he or she could find themselves unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial events, and without care for the environment. Individual thought is required to interpret the many messages presented by Thoreau and find the proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s and those of personal origination. Most solemnly believe that this is what manipulated the actions that Perry took. According to www.simplypsychology.org, Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual. Due to Perry Smith s exposure to abuse, the abandonment emotionally and physically from his family, and influential behavior from Dick, it led him to making extreme actions such as committing murder and other crimes. Capote, in In Cold Blood , helps portray Perry Smith the way those in Holcomb view him while also frequently adding in his personal life throughout the novel, such as him being abused while he was under the care of nuns and those running the shelter. In the novel, Perry goes into detail as to how he was abused, he even said that he remembered it all. At the Catholic orphanage he was abused for wetting the bed constantly, She woke me up. If the drought hits, grass dies. We leave it up to the drought; he ll cut down on cattle. We didn t get rid of cattle just because someone told us to... we took our chances with the rain... if cattle are going to die, let them die. But they will die right here on their reservation. Right here in their own country. Peter Blaine Sr., a Tohono O odham assistant in the 1930s. Since the 1940s, Western tribes and rural communities have been dealing with problems of overgrazing and erosion, invasive noxious plants, high reclamation costs, and decisions of proper land use. Due to past experiences, Indians began to weigh the advantages of leasing lands to non Indians rather than developing their own livestock operations, which might be sensitive to sustainable agriculture alternatives. On another note, extensive forests on some reservations made for an attractive target for exploitation in the early twentieth century. For example, Kramer and Berg (2003) examined the influence of minority status, education level, and the experience of risk factors (such as physical and sexual abuse) on entry into prostitution. It is important to learn why women enter prostitution in order to better learn what barriers may be trapping them in the work. Women were located and surveyed through a program set up for prostitutes that worked both inside and outside of a women s prison. The study found that half of the women were physically or sexually abused and that continuing education reduced the risk of women entering prostitution (Kramer Berg, 2003). This is similar to what Kramer and Berg (2003) found, that 49% of women involved in sex work had been physically abused by a family member and 47% had been sexually abused. The lack of emotional support from their families and their desensitization of abuse are major risk factors for women entering prostitution. She researched the stories of her home town and many other areas of the world. Hurston used this knowledge of myths and stories to help her carry them on to later generations in a form that almost everybody could relate to. Through out all of Zora Neale Hurston s stories, mythology has been a crucial keystone. Her novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, has been influenced by three different ancient myths: the myths of Ezili Freda, Osirisand Isis, and Aphrodite and Adonis. She ends up having to kill him and watch him die as did Aphrodite with Adonis. One of the largest mythological influences on Their Eyes Were Watching God is the myth of Isis and Osiris. Ishtar is a goddess associated with love and was very callous with the men that she loved. (Pondrom 181). Ishtar fell in love with a God by the name of Tammuz and eventually ended up being responsible for his death (Pondrom 181). She descended into the underworld and was successful in bringing him back and she lived at peace (Pondrom 181). We see strong parallels to this myth in Their Eyes Were Watching God. Isis and Osiris were in love, but this relationship did not last long once Osiris was killed (Pondrom 181). The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as malignant and dangerous. The religion is not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror stories, but embraced for its strength and history. In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way, but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be. Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which has uncovered much more about the design of these portraits than has previously been known. You must receive further information about the playwright, the role of women, and the symbols used in Antigone to have a full understanding of the play. Without the knowledge provided from the interactive orals, the play would not have been understood as well as it is now. To understand the importance and meaning of Antigone, you must understand the playwright and his purpose of writing the play. In his play, Sophocles illustrates the rival claims of the state and the individual conscience. He does so by using the dramatic story of a young woman, Antigone, who refuses to follow the law of her uncle, King Creon, on behalf of her brother s burial. You must also understand the role of a woman during this time period to better understand this play. Men were superior to women. Women were considered as the property of their husbands. Without this knowledge, the readers would not understand what caused all of the conflict that resulted in the play.
