Off-grid electrification for development of small islands represents a number of unique challenges under the broad category of rural electrification. Small, off-grid island communities are particularly vulnerable to diesel price fluctuations and natural disasters, and thus, enhancing resilience through more sustainable and cheaper energy technologies should be a key priority. Financing the transition to these technologies – usually photovoltaic, micro-hydro or sometimes wind – is an essential hurdle to overcome. Once electricity systems are in place it is equally important that they are sustained in the longer term with effective arrangements for operation and maintenance, cost recovery etc. Related to this, is the productive use of the energy provided to increase islander incomes.
The workshop on Bunaken Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia from 3 to 5 November 2015, organised by the Smart Villages Initiative in collaboration with Kopernik, will explore these issues and develop recommendations for policy makers, development agencies and other stakeholders in energy provision to island communities.

Each project described here is an outcome of a nearly
4 week long design exercise on understanding the
context of energy conservation, interactive installations,
prototyping (with arduino, fiducial, flash, hacking toys)
as well as exercises such as team building.
The ideas showcased here are generated during
“Interactive Communication Project” led by
Asst. Prof. Keyur Sorathia, Dept. of Design, IIT Guwahati.

The oneVillage Community Day Presentation was given at 10am on Sept 27, 2009 at the Technology Bldg in Taipei Taiwan. The presentation gives an overview of our work particularly in relation to what the 1st Community Day event was about in July supporting the oneVillage Ecotour Service and Learning Program. As part of this program, 10 students from National Tsing Hua Univ traveled to Ghana for the month of Aug. During their time in Ghana, they shared experiences with each other and the local people, while aiding in various development efforts organized by our affiliate OVF Ghana. We see this as a model development effort that links projects and people with ICT and in many cases supports the development of Open Source solutions in the field.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

4. THE UN FOUNDATION ENGAGEMENT OF
E2P ENTERPRISES
▪ E2P Enterprises, a Green Energy start-up, has committed itself to Clean
Energy Minigrids [High-Impact Opportunity], through which it aims at
developing the power scenario in Eastern and Southern India by
supporting, adopting and featuring technological innovations in
generation, distribution and utilization of Renewable Energy, in this
decade of Sustainable energy [2015-2024], as declared by the United
Nations.
▪ Though E2P Enterprises is committed to Green Energy and its proper
distribution and consumption, it sees the necessity of networking with
local innovators of the region and bring their innovations and inputs in a
collaborative fashion to the people in need, and with this objective the
Energy Fraternity or EnFra is conceptualized.
5. ENERGY FRATERNITY
▪ Energy Fraternity, an E2P Undertaking, is committed to raise awareness
and create a network of local innovators, educators and investors to
work together and provide the most cost-effective and efficient
solutions of power distribution and utilization to people in need.
▪ Energy Fraternity works with the following missions:
- Clean Energy should be within the reach of every individual of the
target region.
- The Time taken to operate an appliance, device or machinery should be
reduced to nominal so that the user can focus on other important
activities.
- No natural calamity should mean disruption of normal life.
6. HOW DOES ENFRA CREATE
ITSELF EVERY YEAR?
The Process of Building the Annual Network of EnFra
7. EVENT BASED NETWORKING

STEPS TO BE TAKEN
▪ E2P Enterprises has entered into a 10-year agreement with Indian
Astrobiological Research Centre [IARC] to organize the Prestigious Rio India
Programmes on the latter’s behalf, in Eastern, East-Central and Southern India.
▪ In the above regions, wherever a Rio Programme is organized, since the
participants would be thoroughly educated and made aware of the issues
directly and Indirectly relevant to Energy, we would organize a 3-day idea-
generation un-conference which would transform the awareness into
entrepreneurial creativity, where people would walk in with ideas and walk
out with a start-up in hand.
▪ These start-ups would be made part of the local network which would be
enriched by local investors, resource people, research and educational
institutes. The local networks would be connected by a national network.
9. HOW DO WE PLAN TO SUPPORT EVERY
STEP WE ARE TAKING
The Rio Programme gives
every city a City Coordinator
and a Team of Campus
Ambassadors, all of them
Recruited by Us
The City Coordinators are
coordinated by a State
Coordinator and State
Coordinators are
