This document discusses Pakistan's ongoing energy crisis. 5.  Energy crises is defined as a
conditon in which the demand for
energy is surpassed bt its production
in a country or economy to a great
extent.
 Energy is produce from two sources:
 Renewable Energy
 Non Renewable Energy

6.  Pakistn is facing a serious crises and
energy deficit since last 15 years.
 The gap between demand and supply of
energy is widening day by day.
 Pakistan is enable to match the
increase in production to increae in
consumption becuase of high
population growth,
 However some good work in energy
sector has been done recently which
has limit the energy deficit a bit.

7.  According to Pakistan Economic surveys 2019-
2020 the installd capacity of pakistan reached to
37402 MW in 2020 whereas the total demand of
Pakistan is nearly 25000 MW.
 Althogh Pakistan has a capacity of 37402 MW
electricity but the distribution capacity still
stands at approximatly 22000 MW.
 So at present pakistan energy deficit stands
around 3000 MW.
Mathematically:
Energy Deficit = Demand - Transmission Capacity
Energy Deficit = 25000 - 22000
Energy Deficit = 3000 MW

8.  The origin of Pakistan's energy crises
dates back to somewhere around
1990s.
 2007 is considered the starting point
of the ongoing energy crises but the
issues has its roots in policy decisions
taken 2 decades ago (1990s).
 The energy policies in 1994 was mean
to encourage non renewable energy
sources over renewable sources.

64% fossils fuel, 27% of hydropower
and 9% other renewable sources
and nuclear power.

statistics)
 Fossils fuels dominate Pakistan’s
energy mix.
 Pakistan produce its electricity
primarily through imported furnace
oil.

need to shift from non-

Pakistan is rich in resources
and can produce energy a lot
more than it’s consumption if
we produce at our optimum
level.
