Definition
Types:
Central and peripheral nervous system
 Central Nervous System:
It is made up of two structures:
the brain and the spinal cord.
• It is the main part that commands all
the actions that are going to be carried
out or everything that happens depends
on an order from the central nervous
system.
• Gives orders and interprets orders.
Central Nervous System:
Brain:
• It is the entire mass that is housed in the
cranial vault.
Forebrain:
• Divided into two zones: telencephalon and
diencephalon (thalamus, hypothalamus,
epithalamus and subthalamus).
Mid brain:
Hindbrain:
• Divided into meteencephalon and
myelencephalon.
(pons, medulla oblongata)
• Is the extension of the brain system
through the spinal canal that is in
the center of the spine.
• It has bone protection.
• It is inside the spinal canal.
spinal cord
segments:
Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, conus
medullaris, cauda equina.
spinal nerves:
It is the way in which this system
connects with the peripheral
nervous system.
Meninges
1. dura mater
2. arachnoid
3. pia mater
Between them there is a space and it is
the sub arachnoid.
cerebrospinal fluid
Function: cushioning, helps the nutrition of
the meninges.
