Hurry Up and Wait! Leveraging Open Source to Fuel Sutter’s HIT Innovation Ple...Appnovation Technologies
Appnovation Accelerate Conference - November 18, 2015
Presenters: Kristen Wilson-Jones & Gil Flamino
Hurry up and Wait! Has anyone heard that before? The healthcare industry is an ever-evolving, dynamic and highly regulated one. The ability to respond to the new “new thing” along with balancing
to a longer-view strategy is critical. To make it more challenging, healthcare is highly fragmented and what appears to be a “healthcare system” is in reality 1000’s of small businesses. This presents barriers everywhere you turn: data, organizational, workflow, time, applications, etc. In this session we will discuss how Sutter R&D is approaching these challenges utilizing open source to build their HIT Innovation Plecosystem, coined Maestro. We will also be conducting a live build-an-app-on-the-fly
that demonstrates the promise of open source and how we’ve put into practice.

Appnovation Accelerate Conference
November 18, 2015
Presenter: Zach Chandler
Open source web development shops can do amazing things for your company … if you let them. Traditional methods of sourcing outside talent, like the RFP, are outdated and do not serve either client or vendor well. Borrowing principles from agile development and design thinking, I have established a new model based on openness and collaboration ... and it’s working. If you are still using RFP to source outside web development talent, you are conceding an advantage to your competition that is employing newer methods. In this session you will come away with a roadmap for better relationships and projects with your vendors.

Drupal + HTML5 + CSS3 + JS = Rich Internet Application, an expression that bridges the gaps between content management and interactive UI, thus delivering, as a package to users, a Rich Internet Application experience. A fancy and responsive UI equals happy users; accessible and organized contents equal happy managers. Moreover, days where web applications only live on servers are gone, and most importantly, they can operate across multiple platforms: smartphones, tablets, and desktops. Running intertwined between online and offline mode becomes a possibility as well.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
- Accepted in ASPLOS ‘17, Xi’an, China.
- Featured in the tutorial, Systemized Program Analyses: A Big Data Perspective on Static Analysis Scalability, ASPLOS ‘17.
